Hi there, we're looking to book for our holiday within the next few months to CPT.

If we're flying QF, the majority of flying time will be from SYD to JNB.

I was just wondering, is the in flight entertainment any good, now this is on the older non refurbished 747s, not the ones with the cabin refurbishment.

Last time we flew QF was in 2004, also to JNB and I think that the IFE had just gone in, and we had a few movies, Series channels and music stations on loop. Nothing too fancy, but at the time it was cool, now it's boring.

Just wondering has things changed since 2004, or have they still using the same IFE system? (Which wouldn't suprise me in the least, if that was the case.)

Thanks

Definitely all AVOD. The cream of the crop is definitely on the 380's, refurbed 747's and the new domestic 330's.

The older AVOD system can be buggy but should it be working it is OK

Both versions are pretty good, and both have a good collection of movies and TV shows.

As mannej pointed out, some of the older systems on the B747's can be buggy, I've had a few flights with them that the system had spent more time been rebooted (talking multiple reboots on the single flight) than having it available, but even then that has been pretty rare for me that it's been a problem.

I beg to differ but that opinion is based on the fact QF5 on Sunday spent half the flight with no IFE, also the screens were worn out and had poor contrast in comparison to the same in the A330 on QF81 the following night. Content is good but control is not as good as the newer installations.

I am honestly surprised that the systems still feature bugs given how old they are, it made for a very average flight and is somewhat necessary.

markis10, I assume that the Sunday QF5 on which you travelled was a B744 as the timetable indicates that is the case for five of the seven days ex SYD to SIN with the exception of Tuesdays and Thursdays when it is at present supposed to be an A333. Am I correct?
