I have taken a break from O/S travel for 12 months but am now getting back into it. When booking a trip to HK and back from Melbourne, I see that Qantas has removed the overnight flight from HK-MEL, and has also changed to a 747 from the new A330's:evil: they were using a year ago. When did they do this?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

End of Daylight Savings in late March this Year.

I flew QF29 SYD - HKG (- LHR) in early March and QF29 MEL-HKG last month.

FWIW, coming back last month I took QF128 o'night to SYD and then flew down to MEL early morning.

A typicial Qantas decision without much thought. All done so it can fly 747's to London and back and to fit in with London time slots. Bugger the Pax that used to fly Qantas back from HK who work in Southern China. In the Shoe industry I am connected with I now know use Cathay because you have to leave Dongguan at 3.30am to connect to Qantas. We all complained and and yes they did reply but with nice airy fairy responses.
Still the bonus points are the main loss with CX, but there is a bonus, the staff are much better.................

Two other possible reasons for the change:
* Qantas might believe there is sufficient demand for First class travel MEL-HKG vv
* It is the only QF overnight flight to HKG from Aust, and is very popular, so could justify stepping up to 747 for greater capacity
