An Aussie says Qantas charged him $300 more for SYD-MEL when logged in to his FF account compared to not being logged in.
I've never noticed this before, but found an old thread here on AFF about it: Higher price when logged into Qantas FF account
A little surprised (or maybe I shouldn't be?) that Qantas would do something that would so obviously generate negative media attention when it's trying to rebuild its reputation.
Or maybe it's just a glitch?

Valid complaint, what I don’t get is why he didn’t just book it incognito or on his partner’s phone and then just add his FF number in?

Is this a thing ?

Or I notice when booking two or more this would happen as it would NOT allow you to buy two tickets together at different price points

Is it really a thing?

I understand the concept of dynamic pricing, ok with that, but can the pricing be changed based just on the profile of the user? Surely this can't / shouldnt be true?

I guess we see shades of this when using flight credits or gift vouchers and being unable to obtain the same pricing as displayed through the standard booking engine. Appreciate it's not a like for like example, but my point is merely that there are plenty of examples of Qantas offering different pricing to the same person for the same flights.

I've never seen it, but suspect a glitch. The $180 odd fare looks suspect to me....But also a bit odd that the return journeys have two different prices.

His screenshots are pretty damning. I don’t think he’s lying. It’s either a real thing or a glitch.
Thing is though, in theory anyone else could arguably have purchased those tickets and exhausted the fare class, bumping him to a more expensive fare. And with respect to his screenshots, there's nothing there that proves he's showing images from different devices. Not saying it's all BS, but his screenshots are hardly incontrovertible evidence.

Yep, good spot.

They’re two different phones. Same time, but viewing fares at the same time.

If only one seat left, I think QF blocks it from sale for a set period of time if someone has selected it.

I’ve even had this with the call centre, by me looking at it prevented them from seeing it. Waited the set period (I think it’s 10 minutes?) then the call centre could book it.

But maybe this is an unrelated glitch. Wouldn’t be the first.

I've had this before when using a gift voucher. Apparently the GV search engine is different to regular fares.

I rang up and got the ticket done manually at the lower fare with no handling fee.
