Qantas Green frequent flyer tier

I actually waited till I was in Karratha, so only had to offset 1 leg of my flight.

My activity statement recognises the achievement (238 points for the flight on the 8th):

And the summary has triggered the Carbon offset AND the Charity dedemption on the same day, but not the Green Leaf flight:

Were did you call to follow up? Just the bog standard QFF number?

Okay, so now I suspect something dodgy has gone on.

That offset flight was KTA-PER. I have another trip coming up, and when I investigate the offset, it's asking for 1953 points to offset the flight:

This morning, I even had an email prodding me that I just needed to take an offset flight:

I called the call centre, and (after being cut off three times) was able to speak to a human, drew their attention to the leaf being credited, who agreed, but told me I needed to speak to my Travel Co-ordinator - same deal as the FFers above.

Knowing the red tape that involves with my employer, I asked for the points to be refunded - the status credit is shown in my activity statement, and the green leaf awarded, it should be credited; if it's not, it should not be debited - the Service Agent has lodged a request for that.

In the mean time, I will try again with a flight I have booked myself, albiet for a much larger points deduction.

In hindsight, the 238 points I was originally debited looks ridiculously low....

It looks like Qantas have drastically changed the points cost of offsetting - I'm quoted 2.6k points to offset an existing booking for two passengers MEL-SYD in economy.

If I create an identical dummy booking I get the same 1318 points per person, but just $1.45 if paying cash.

That's a phenomenally poor use of QFF @ 0.11c per point return. I don't think I've ever seen it anywhere near this bad.. 0.5c is bad enough!

Paging @AFF Editor - this is surely a stuff-up... but maybe worth checking with the QF media team? You would think QF would want to incentivise offsetting rather than milk it.

Wow. I offset a Sydney-Melbourne economy return flight about three weeks ago (as a separate transaction after the initial flight booking), and it only cost 213 points for one passenger:

Of course, the green leaf hasn't been recognised yet, but I suppose you can't have everything...

I noticed the increase in points to offset (about 1K for ARM-SYD) a few days ago and it looks like it's been adjusted again.

However, why is it almost twice the emissions going one way than the other way?

Is it a different aircraft model in the other direction? Does one direction take significantly longer than the other due to winds etc.?

Good point. Scheduled flying time?

It could be a bug, or it could be that SYD-ARM is operated by the DH3, DH4 and DH8 and you're booked in different types. The number of pax each type can carry (as a relative percentage) varies significantly.

I've got a similar oddity on an upcoming OWA. SYD-HND on a QF A330 supposedly generates 4778kg CO2, but LHR-SYD on the QF A380 is only 1981kg despite double the flying time, take offs and landings. Both are booked in J.

1h20m each direction - no difference there.

Oh good points, the outbound is a DHC-400 but the return is on the -200. So the smaller aircraft seems to generate more CO2 per person.

Sydney is all downhill from here :)

I note that one flight is about 50% more than the other, are you flying on different aircraft?

I just offset my SIN-DPS award flight

Sector Singapore Changi - Denpasar Bali
Date 08 February 2023
No. of Passengers 2
Emissions Offset (C02-e) 254.3 kilograms
Amount Paid* 534 Qantas Points
Total Qantas Points Amount
534
*Contributions are not refundable.

Update: Finally managed to redeem a couple hundreds points to buy carbon for an upcoming flight I've got booked (thereby earning me another leaf) and this time it went through successfully.

That's a really good question.

I do that run so many times, I honestly can't recall what the metal was.

Having said, that, all the choices are twin jets - F100, A310, B737 - so you'd think that there's not a world of difference.

Perversely, either though my email complaint, or my request last week by phone to refund my points if they were not going to credit me, overnight I see I have been awarded my final leaf, and now have Green tier.

Glad it's sorted, but it should not be that that hard.

Good luck everyone else in getting yours untangled.

I purchased the carbon neutral delivery without any "real" purchase attached to it, and 7 days later still no credit for the activity. Has this been fixed and I actually need to buy something?

Reading up thread, I believe the ability to purchase by itself and sprout a leaf was “enhanced” away some time ago. So not sure what recourse you have.

FWIW, buying it again in combo with offsetting your Tassie property or charitable donation (or physical wine delivery) should work.

Hi, I have gone back a few pages looking for this question, I am trying to offset a booking to Perth in late December for around 2K (2pax). However I keep getting this error message on the app and the web page. Has anyone else this and what was the plan of attack to get resolution ?

Had forgotten about this until the reminder email last week (where I only had one leaf completed), as I haven't been flying QF since May. Thought I would try and achieve it (although the flight "leaf" may ellude me - but I have until 28 February 2023).

The 50 SC's will mean more to me towards LTG, that's another 0.35% towards it (as I'm gettign close). Better use for me than QF points that I am have no chance of using anytime soon.

For the “offset flying”, you don’t need to actually fly before 28 Feb, just to have booked and paid the seperate offset amount. The leaf should sprout about 48 hrs after payment if the system is playing nice.

Hey SYD, do you know if that applies to purchasing the offset at a later date after making the booking? Cheers
