Qantas Green frequent flyer tier

For me it would all come down to how many status credits and whether they count to lifetime. If it’s worthwhile then I’ll look into making the minimum contribution to get the tier.
That bit caught my attention too. If they're offering SCs I'd get on board, as we usually fly on cheaper fares with limited SC earn. Flight offsets are only a few dollars, so using them toward SCs would be a pretty sweet deal - though I notice they're being very tight lipped about exactly what's on offer, SC wise, whereas they've been pretty loud about the points potential.

What confuses me is exactly how renewal works. Is it a lifetime status? The action like installing home solar and stuff like that aren't things you can do every year, whereas other things like charity memberships / donations and flight offsets obviously are.

Your seat is an exercise bike bolted to floor and which transfers pedal power into the jet engines.
Surprised some of the European ULCCs haven't cottoned on to this award-winning fuel efficiency concept yet. Greenwashing, cost saving AND torturing passengers... It's Michael O'Leary's dream christmas present.

Etihad has beaten Qantas to it, launching what it's calling the "world's first green loyalty programme" last week.

I guess they are technically correct, since Qantas has so far just made an announcement but hasn't actually launched their green tier yet.
Quite typical of QF. Announce something that may come into play in 5 years time.

Just received an email this morning. Seems like this is now live Offset Your Home and Car

Still unclear what the benefits of this green tier are.

The ability to offset your home and car was already available when they announced the Green tier a few weeks ago. The Green tier itself has not yet launched.

Well now that I've had a closer look at Etihad's Conscious Choices program, I've realised that this isn't actually live yet either! In fact, they don't even give you an option to offset your carbon emissions when booking a flight on their website.

The press release says "from January 2022" - so I guess they could still be the world's first green program if Qantas takes a while to get the program up and running?

Still, to claim they have the "world's first" sustainability program is bizarre when they announced this 12 days after Qantas and haven't actually launched it yet.

*cough* lots of spurious claims in the airline industry... world's first business class, world's oldest airline, first seats in the world that can be reclined for take-off... :p

Does it say anywhere how our money will be spent, and in which proportion? For example, if I pay the $85 to off set my car, does *all* of that $85 (less GST) go to the carbon offset, or is there some commission or handling fee taken by QF? Who is paying for QF to build and maintain this part of the website and handle that cash flow and points accrual?

Yeah I'd be keen to know this as well.

The sceptic in my thinks Qantas will try claim these credits for their own use. Ie, to claim they're carbon neutral.

I had expected this was exactly the reason for the program, from the start… the same with offsetting your flights

Flights make sense. However, if I'm paying for a carbon offset for my car and Qantas is also claiming this for their use, they're double dipping on the offset.

I think it says in the Ts&Cs that this is separate from QF's pledge to get to carbon neutral by 2020 or 2050 or whenever.

I'd love to see a partnership with a/some car share services like GoGet, Car Next Door, etc, bonus points or when choosing hybrid vehicles with car hire companies, etc...
