Is there a way to use a gift voucher on a sale fare? I have done a lot of reading on this site in the last 6 weeks, and learned a lot of tricks (and still made some silly mistakes) - using gift vouchers to avoid credit card fees being one. But when I try to book via the 'redeem gift voucher' page, the fares are higher than the advertised fare on the current 'sale'. Is there a way to book the sale fares using a gift voucher, to avoid the credit card fee?

PS I have done a search but haven't found an answer to this specific question.

Thanks
Cat

See this thread: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....am/earn-bonus-points-gift-vouchers-45671.html

Basically, the fare needs to be at least $50, but if it is:

- Buy a $50 voucher
- wait for received the email
- use the reference to book a fare that is more than $50 (saving on the CC fee for both domestic and international)

Note that they can only be redemmed on one-way or return fares departing from an Australian Airport.

Thanks Serfty. I think I've read all of that thread.

Situation...

I bought 2 x $50 gift vouchers this morning to make these bookings (02/11 - 03/11)

GLT-BNE-GLT fares are the same price whether through the 'redeem voucher' page or the normal booking page - $249.
BNE-AKL-BNE fares are different. Sale fare (business) being $1155 - redeem voucher page shows $1635 as the lowest business fare.

I usually make two bookings as a multi is much more expensive. Is there a reason for / around this?

Seems like a 'bug' in the system. I cannot think of any reason it's not working - the only caveat in these cases is the fare "value" must be higher then the voucher "value" which is certainly the caase.

You can call to use the vouchers which should be quite valid for sale fares. There would normally be a service fee for doing so but this should be waived given the situation. (Get the CSA to verify the error.)

I thought I was the problem. I usually am :) Thanks for your help.

I am getting BNE-AKL-BNE in business as $989 outbound and $947 inbound for 02/11/2013 and 03/11/2013.

When using a gift the airfares are exactly the same.

Hopefully this shows what I see... nup. That doesn't work.

Try again...

That caveat only applied to the Mark I gift vouchers. Gift Voucher Mark II can be used for any fare with the remaining value being issued as a second voucher.
