The article is wrong in the way it characterises the fees earned by Qantas

Surprisingly, Qantas and United, both large legacy carriers ranked six and seven, respectively. This is likely due to the recent implementation of basic economy fares

Qantas has introduced Basic Economy Fares? Right. Whatever.

When you go back to the source article, it says that most of Qantas ancillary income is generated by it FF program (and its here if you want to read it http://www.ideaworkscompany.com/wp-...Top-10-Airline-Ancillary-Revenue-Rankings.pdf)


The FF program generates
1.5 billion (nearly $1.16 billion) for fiscal year 2017. That’s a stunning $98 per member or almost $39 per passenger.
