Qantas First versus Business

I have to pop over to India and Saudi next month, so I I'll be testing other airlines. Flew Turkish recently - very impressed for business class. I watched all meals and drinks prepared by beautiful girls on a bar in front of the seating area. No need for movies - I had plenty to look at. Better than Qantas first class.

You must have had different TK J FA's to the ones I had recently. Those girls would whip QF FA's suffering PMT with one hand tied behind there back. ;) I must admit the return flight was a tad more pleasant.

lhr to hkg on 10 Aug, on QF30, no Avod, Purser said, works 50% of time. Told us that they had stopped the final upgrades to the system.

Well.... that's not quite true. They've stopped the upgrades so that they can get the one already installed right. Instead, they're doing software fixes.
You should see Air NZ. They have the same system but it works near perfect. The main difference is what the different airlines wanted the system to do.

Note there is no non-stop JFK-LAS with AA anyway, so you are going to have to connect somewhere (DFW, STL) so go via LAX and enjoy the comfort and service of the 3-class trans-continental service.

I agree with Dave that the JFK LAX 767 is a nice flight, but the LAX LAS (that I did at least) was in a very small AA crop duster. Only a short flight, but it was bumpy going over the mountains.

I was supposed to come back to BNE on a 2 class 747 in J, but it got changed to 3 class as a baggage handler drove his truck into the plane (must have been a couple of days ago as everything was on schedule). Anyway I got to try F for the first time (thanks blind truck driver). I agree with others that it is very nice, but I would rate it as follows:
Ecconomy - 1
Business - 8.5
First - 10

I sleep well in the Skybeds, but those extra couple of flat inches was nicer. Don't know of any bassinets in F though.

Anyway thats my 2c.

Matt.

Just got back this morning, BNE to LAX was not AVOD, purser also said to me that they were having lots of troubles but the developers were fixing it. LAX to BNE did have it and it worked a treat. Must say it was the first out of three flights with AVOD where it worked perfectly.

I have taken AA flights LAX-LAS in MD80, which is ok for the 45 min flight.

After my last experience flying LAS-LAX, I figured I would be better off driving it next time. The massive queues at check-in and the idiot security people made it such a drawn out process that driving may well have been quicker.

Ahh, you must have been on VH-OEE this morning on QF 176 into BNE. Were you seated in the Business cabin?

Apparently, due to the heightened security requirements in the UK and US, and banning of certain electronic items, Qantas has been placing an IFE engineer on the flights to the UK/US to assist when the system goes u/s.

After hearing about the trouble in the UK and the increased restrictions in carry-ons, I was thinking to myself that the airlines had better get their IFE's working better or the pax will need sedation on long haul flights. :D
