Qantas First Class - Sydney to Singapore (QF1)

IMHO The reviewer would know a good steak if it dropped from the mask vents. From our experience, the dish you should never choose on QF F is steak. “By rule “ the steak is cooked for 15 minutes making it far too over done , grey, and inedible. Worst steaks ever had on a plane.

So one for and one against. I’ll go for the non-obnoxious review (by the person who actually ate it).

Here is a photo of the steak cut into to show that bit of pink in the centre. I'm not a steak expert but I think I know a good steak when I know I see it.

Hopefully you have a napkin close by to wipe the egg from your face.

I had the steak on the way back and it was excellent - not at all grey, overdone or inedible - in fact a tad pink in the centre.

Not my experience in J in August

Outbound on QF1 (Syd to Sin) steak was a little pink and perfectly edible. Inbound on QF8 (dfw - syd) steak was inedible because it was crazy rare, bordering on blue, cutting into it saw bloody juices completely stain the mashed potato eww.

Looks pretty overdone to me. Ordering a steak sandwich and then a steak and then a steak sandwich is an odd choice, but each to their own I guess..

Looks somewhat better than the grey slab I received! :) Maybe they listened to my complaints, although I doubt it. May have been due to the English crew not used to cooking steak. :)

Well I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your QF first experience because l for one will never bother to fly first wth them again.!
After flying Aus - Europe at least once a year for the last 10+ year with Emirates first, we got bumped to a QF Sing - Syd First in Nov. To say l was disappointed and horrified would be an understatement. Having really enjoyed QF First in 2015 and earlier you can really see that while they are trying to recoup some of the lost monies from the previous 2/3 years they certainly don't charge less for the privilege..! The menu was so limited...that the last thing one would expect is steak sandwich on a first menu..! The drinks menu selection could have been written on the back of my hand. I can't believe in this day and age Qantas still feel the need to treat passengers like school children and provide blunt/chunky cutlery...! Every other airline can provide "normal" cutlery...why can't they?
The toilet facilities for first is a small cubicle....where you are "supposedly" expected to change into your paper thin PJ's.
To save the "environment" even though we're burning thru tons of av-gas per minute, the contents of the "luxury" toiletry bag consisted of a wooden toothbrush, complete with splinters, a tube of toothpaste so small one would be lucky to get one chance at brushing and a selection of 3 small tubes of miscellaneous rehydration lotions. No deodorant, brush/combs, shavers etc. We have gotten into the habit of not taking any toiletries with us on the long haul flights given other Airline first ensure you have everything you need...and all l can say was thank goodness we had just connected from an Emirates flight so had its well stocked bag of goodies...!
And whilst on the subject of the bathroom, with in 3hrs of departure the rubbish bin was so full of paper etc people were stockpiling in the corner of the bench. Extra tissues ran out mid-flight and cheap BIC disposable razors were shoved into a paper cup.
The TV screen size was something that went out 15 years ago and the fact that in this day and age with everything going digital its hard to believe our National Carrier STILL doesn't provide...nor even have Wi-Fi on board. We flew Iberian airways in Spain this trip and on a small jet for a 50 minute flight and ALL passengers were given free wifi access.
Seriously...I have never been so disappointed in Qantas in all my life...and as per my opening statement ....will save my points/money for an airline who can actually provide a service that is befitting to be called First Class.

A good attempt at a review, but nothing really premium about the long-check in queue, no wifi, outdated and limited IFE, poor onboard food, poor steak and seat.

Only things QF do well are the MEL and SYD F lounges and the champagne in F

That's the refurbished set-up? First? Boarding zoo, small screen, no wi-fi, low quality headphones and meal plating shall we say 'basic'.

Not a patch on QR business on every criteria.

Sorry I should have said boarding zoo and yes that is the refurbished setup, as the seat colour is different.

outdated and limited IFE
Besides the screen size, I don't think the IFE is outdated or limited at all. Compared to many carriers, the selection is very comprehensive, consisting of multiple new and classic movies and full seasons of series to watch. The system is the latest Panasonic one.

The size of the display in F doesn't compare to many Asian or middle eastern carriers. However, QF aren't the only carrier that has this style of display. For example - CX (18", and also used on QR due to dry leasing of their 777's) and BA (15" depending on aircraft) have a similar sized fold out screen. Note that it's closer to you so doesn't necessarily have to be as big.
