Hi guys,

I've just recently gone Platinum on QF due to that double status promo and a heap of flying for work, so I'm fairly new to knowing what I can get out of them for having this card…
I have a flight (SYD-KUL) in a couple of days that I'm trying to "make better" in any way I can. A couple of questions:

1. Can QF points be used to upgrade an MH ticket now that they are port of OW? (Either in advance or at the airport)

2. Do I have any better options than the average Joe in terms of seat selection with a QF Platinum status? I jumped onto the online check-in about 1 hour after it opened and it seems like I'm just left with rubbish to choose from.

I've seen a few articles about MH when they joined OW but this was fairly early on so things may have changed...

Thanks so much!

Answer to question 1 - you can only use QF points to upgrade on QF marketed and operated flights. Any other airlines the answer is a no...

MH doesn't give any free seat selection or seat preferences to OW elites.

Interesting enough as gold on a 140k OW i was give free seat selection to all on my booking...inc MH...less then a month ago

MH will give srat selection to one world Emeralds. You have to speak to someone in their reservations office after you've got the flight booked.

Don't forget you get to use the QF F Lounge as well from Syd..

I've done the SYD-KUL flight four times now with MH as QF Platinum. I've never received any onboard recognition, though I have noted the crew know who are the Enrich Platinum passengers and I was marked as one.

On my recent KUL - MEL flight on MH I got both advance seat selection and onboard recognition. I was in J.

I think J goes without saying, as I've had no issue selecting J seats on several flights. However, I've also been able to do the same with Y bookings.

So MH basically doesn't provide elite recognition. Shame.

I don't think seat selection is a oneworld benefit. MH actually extends some of the oneworld Sapphire and Emerald benefits down to Ruby.

Confirming they should give you pretty much whatever seat you want, incl. bulkhead or exit rows in Economy as a OWE. I couldn't get it done online, but rang the service centre after booking (no need / risky to wait until online check-in) and they just adjusted on the spot - even gave recommendations for what would be a better seat than I was trying for at the time. Have had no other unexpected OW recognition on or off the ground.

Cheers.

I would replace should with might, given they publicly state even their own elites have to pay for the best seats in Y.

11. Are preferred seats available to Enrich Platinum or Gold members for free or at a discount?
No, the preferred seat fees are applicable to all Economy Class passengers, including Enrich Platinum and Gold members.

Slightly OT, but one of those flights I did was in Y, and there was a family on-board who'd failed to request a bassinet for their child (they had assumed they could just request it at check-in), the CSM told them that all the passengers sitting the bulkhead had paid for those seats and the best they could do was to ask if any of them wanted to swap.

So MH must be good at "enforcing" passengers who've paid for it.

Fair call... though in my experience there has been only hit, and no miss... :)
