I am a Qantas Club Member and bronze FF card holder. Can anyone suggest how I can upgrade to Silver Membership. I live and work in North West China and return to Australia once or twice a year and as my journey totals 28 hours comfort would be nice.
Many thanks - johninchaina (this should have been johninchina of course!)

I'm not sure you will get much in the way of extra comfort being a silver QFF. I see you have Qantas Club membership (QP), I'd say that careful use of that membership (choose flights carefully to ensure you can use the QP card for lounge access) will likely offer you more in the way of easily measurable comfort.

Thank you Moopere for your helpful reply, how best then can I seek an upgrade either in class or to a comfortable seat by the exits? Do this prior to flying or through the Qantas lounge? Sorry to be a pain to people but I'm out on a limb in NW China. Many thanks - Johninchina

Quickest way and relatively cheap way. Cathay Pacific (a oneworld airline) have cheap business class tickets from Taipei. So from Taipei to BNE/MEL/SYD business class return can be had for about AU$1900. This will earn you 300SC and get you silver. Of course you have got to get yourself from China to Taipei, which is a lot easier than it use to be.

But you'll also need to meet the requirement of four flights on Qantas planes. Some cheap domestic flights in Australia would do the trick.

But I am not sure silver is worth it if you are already Qantas club. Have you considered flying business class on one of the Chinese carriers as business class is only a several hundred more than economy on Qantas.

I think exit seats are available for purchase on the QF website now. Upgrades are a lot harder to get judging by others comments in the forum. Its always worth a look, but it does seem that even Gold or Platinum elites can have a difficult time.

Certainly, Silver QFF is going to give you more benefits and possibilities overall than Bronze, but I'm not sure if there is a huge difference at the end of the day. Its what decided me in buying QP membership - I'll use that whilst I shoot straight for Gold where the benefits are more easily measured.

richie9x's reply seems like a much better solution. _Any_ business class seat is going to beat Economy class, no matter if you are Silver, Gold or Plat. If going that way looks like a possibility I'd definitely pursue it.
