Qantas FF and Woolworths create new loyalty alliance

Are you suggesting that the first $30 of each transaction will not earn any FF points?

I assume that for each transaction over $30 you will earn points on the entire $ amount spent. Spend less than $30 and no points. But I have not seen published terms and conditions yet.

If the brochure quoted a few pages back is correct 'Earn one Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every dollar spent over $30 at Woolworths supermarkets'

Yes, I read that and thought it was ambiguous. I guess we will need to wait for the published terms and conditions to see if it is as quoted.

Otherwise people will just purchase a $50 Wish Card at each visit and then use that card for the next purchase, which will also include a $50 Wish Card.

On the current EverydayRewards card, you get the fuel voucher when you spend the Wish Card, not when you buy the wish card. I would assume that for the purposes of this, they would also exclude any Wish Card purchase from the total.

(Can't have double dipping on this, can we)

I was given one of 'em orange cards today but as I don't drive I'm not sure how good the fuel offers will be to me. Might be useful when the Qantas thingo takes off. Even then it's not many points but every lil bit counts I s'pose.

I don't imagine the checkout chick will be too thrilled at me holding up the line fumbling with so many different cards. :p (everyday rewards, QFF - though I think I could just tell them the number rather than carrying the actual card with me?, AMEX)

Not my suggestion but it does sound logical.

Earn one Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every dollar spent over $30 at Woolworths supermarkets (excluding Tasmania). Just register your everyday Rewards card online and provide your Qantas Frequent Flyer number. Then present your Everyday Rewards card when you shop.

As posted by gibspmuh earlier in the thread....

The Australian obsession with petrol prices and saving a few cents on filling up has long been a somewhat puzzling and fascinating thing to me.

With the supermarket dockets, if it's no hassle to do a shop for >$30, and no hassle and not out of the way to go a petrol station where you can take get the 4c/litre off, then that's fine - I'd do it myself.

I shop at Safeway (closest supermarket to home) but I have no idea where the nearest redeemable servo is. Certainly not as close as many other servos. So on an average fill of say 40 litres, I would save $1.60, but how much do I spend in fuel, wear and tear, and time, to get to the servo to do it?

The real oddity though is the 'special promotion' where a station in an outer suburb sells petrol at, say, 25c a litre off for a day. If what is reported is to be believed, people drive halfway across town and queue for 2 to 3 hours, just to fill up at this price. At a 40 litre fill, you've saved $10. To put it another way, if I said to you, there is $10 sitting in the middle of the road for you, you've just got to drive 20km to get there, and wait 3 hours to pick it up. Does that sound as attractive?

Sorry for the OT-ishness and hint of rant - I just don't understand the obsession with saving a few cents per litre (especially when it costs a lot more to put yourself in a position to do so).

My local Caltex is where I usually fill up anyway and I've always shopped at Safeway. Win-Win situation.

Personally I agree with you but I am also lucky in a way to have a Woolworths and 2 Coles Express service stations within a couple of kilometres from home and a lot of times I drive past these places so I will fill up. When I was working in Sydney and driving a lot more there would be more service stations to choose from in my daily travels.

Sure $1.60 in itself does not sound like a lot of money but over 52 weeks it is $83.20 and again $83.20 may not sound like much but remember the coughulative effect of saving $1 here and 50 cents there. It all adds up.

Why would I go out and buy a Chinese take away and spend ~$15 on a meal when I can have stir fry and rice at home for <$5? Yes the 1 hour spending preparing and cooking is not worth the money I saved but it gives me satisfaction in a number of ways. And yes I can go and buy a cheese and tomato roll for ~$5 for lunch but I can make the same cheese and tomato roll at home in the morning for lunch for <$2. It takes less than 5 minutes to prepare....

The terms listed on the back of the brochure are:

Qantas Frequent Flyer:

1. Earning of Qantas Frequent Flyer points through Everyday Rewards is subject to the Everyday Rewards Terms and Conditions. The following are only some of the applicable terms.
(a) To be eligible to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points in Woolworths supermarkets (excluding Tasmania), you must be a registered 'Everyday Rewards' program member who is also a 'Qantas Frequent Flyer' program member. You must also link your cards by adding your Qantas Frequent Flyer number to your Everyday Rewards account. Details of how to link your cards can be found at www.everydayrewards.com.au
(b) To earn points you must spend at least the qualifying amount (as advertised from time to time) in one transaction
(c) The rate at which points are earned is determined by Woolworths and may change

2. You must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program to earn and redeem points. Membership of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, points (following them being credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account), other benefits (including earning, redeeming and expiry of points), the rate at which points may be redeemed and changes to that rate are all subject to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program Terms and Conditions ("QFF Terms") as amended from time to time. For the current QFF Terms and for detailed information about the Qantas Frequent Flyer program and changes to each, please see qantas.com/frequentflyer

Not my suggestion but it does sound logical.

Given that the first $30 gets a 4c a litre discount on fuel, it does seem quit plausible they would exclude this from QFF points.

With the supermarket dockets, if it's no hassle to do a shop for >$30, and no hassle and not out of the way to go a petrol station where you can take get the 4c/litre off, then that's fine - I'd do it myself.

Which is my situation. Coles is within walking distance of where I live, and the relevant servo is the second closest to where I live (across the road from the Mobil, which is the closest)

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

But you don't get QFF points for the first $30. So if you spend $50 on groceries and $40 on beer you get 60 points. Do it seperately and you only get 30.

If this really is the case then the majority of the time I'd only get about 1 point. I hope this is not true, otherwise the program probably wont be worth it at all.

Surely you'd be double dipping if you used a CC that then credited to QF too.

I don't imagine the checkout chick will be too thrilled at me holding up the line fumbling with so many different cards. :p (everyday rewards, QFF - though I think I could just tell them the number rather than carrying the actual card with me?, AMEX)

I don't think they'd need you to present your QF card, just the orange card, and the orange card works like any item you buy, the barcode on the back is swiped and then the card handed back to you.

Memorising the number on the back wouldn't get you anywhere.

OK, I'm a little confused with all this.

I've just looked on the everyday rewards site, and there is no facility to sign up for QFF.

Does anyone seem to know where to join QFF through the Woolworths program, or will it be a case of waiting a few days (or weeks?)?

I have actually had an everyday rewards card for a few months now, but I haven't got around to registering it. Might wait until I hear more about this offer.

Well still no clearer. Spend the qualifying amount -$30 to earn points. But is it on the total spend or only the >$30 spend?

Eeither way this is good for me, will get the wife earning some points, as she does the shopping, but is afraid to fly.

I guess its possible. Will just have to wait and see.

We do the majority of our household shopping at Coles and Woolworths and I guess we spend around $350-400/week on average. So I really can't see this being worth any more than 20K or so QF FF points for me. But it does mean I won't have to worry about finding another way to keep the account active since my flying earning now goes to AAnother FF scheme.

If Woolworths do not offer the points on the first $30 they will be shooting themselves in the foot.....as there are a lot of people that make minor transactions...

Milk and bread....buying lunch etc.....popping in to get something you forgot before. Buying a beer or wine from the "seperate" liquor department.

Not everyone wants to do a "big" shop...and indeed in recent years the supermarkets have ramped up their "convenience" aspects...cigarettes, newspapers, cold drinks in fridge ready to drink, bakery offerings etc..

ie many of these things are discretionary spend. Encouraging people to do just big shops will mean the the less disciplined will probably not be seduced as much into disecretionary buys as they will not shop as often.

At lunch I can easily go to either Safeways or Coles...and getting points for sub-$30 would help to sway me.

Ahh got ya. I was referring to the QFF card number, as I thought we also had to give that to the checkout chick. Well it seems all I have to do is link the QFF card to the ER card online and simply present the ER card as you said, but I can't seem to find the facility to do this...

Going by the FULL PAGE adds that Coles are unning at present for thir new gift/card Fly Buys promo they are very concerned about the upcoming Woolworths /QF alliance....

But maybe not that concerned about the ability of the average punter to calculate benfis as the Coles Promo is amazinly un-generous in it's eran rate.

The scheme hasn't started yet. This info is from an advance flyer accidently left in a store.

Watch the skies!

As mentioned by dede, it's not active yet. It should be soon, but no one knows when. Actually, someone will know, but they're likely not a member of AFF.

Registering the card online gets you targeted offers to your email address for higher fuel discounts and certain savings. You can also see what fuel redemption options you have available, what ones have expired, and see a chart showing how much you saved each month. The most I saved was $9 in March.
