Qantas and American Airlines have expanded their joint business, enabling Qantas customers to codeshare on an additional nine American Airlines services including to four new destinations - Kona, Lihue and Maui in Hawaii and Richmond, Virginia.

Effective for sale today and travel from 27 November, the Qantas codeshare on American Airlines will extend to the following nine services.

  • Los Angeles – Lihue (LIH)
  • Los Angeles – Kona (KOA)
  • Los Angeles – Maui (OGG)
  • Los Angeles – Atlanta (ATL)
  • Los Angeles – San Antonio (SAT)
  • Los Angeles – Tampa (TPA)
  • Dallas/Fort Worth – Richmond (RIC)
  • Dallas/Fort Worth – Tucson (TUS)
  • Dallas/Fort Worth – Albuquerque (ABQ)

Our expanded codeshare relationship with American Airlines makes travel more convenient for Qantas customers connecting onwards from Los Angeles and Dallas/Fort Worth. We are focused on delivering more choices, easier connections and a better overall travel experience, which is made possible with our valued partner.

Qantas customers now have access to over 130 codeshare city pairs across North America, Canada and Mexico from our Los Angeles and Dallas gateways, more opportunities to earn frequent flyer points and have their luggage checked straight through to their final destination.

The US remains one of Qantas’ most important markets. We now operate direct A380 services between Sydney and Dallas/Fort Worth, we’ve recently upgraded our three per week services from Sydney to Honolulu from a B767 to an A330, which will increase to four per week from 20 December, and from 21 January next year our Melbourne to Los Angeles service will increase from a daily service to ten per week.

I would usually take the AA flight number. Better to earn points and SC's (especially) in AA first, rather than have QF treat the same seat as J.
