Some examples

SYD-MEL/ BNE $499 vv
MEL-ADL/HBA $499 vv

SYD_HBA $589 vv
SYD-ADL $599 vv
MEL-BNE $599 vv

Some very nice economy fares in there too.

Enough to entice some weekends away! Off I go to find some matching accom!

Posted this earlier but handy here…

SYD-YVR J ($6k) is very good - considering - and a repeat of a prior Sale. I’m flying out next week on that previous offer. Mainly visiting the US!

If you fiddle around with multi-sector you should be able to get SYD-YVR//YYZ or YU—SYD for around $6.5k.

I haven’t looked at ex-other Oz ports, but probably decent value/status earners.

SYD-NOU for $1k is fairly common Sale fare but still good compared with the lack of decent NZ/NAN Sale fares.

So… I’m surprised (confused?) with the cancellation on the $599 J class fares SYD-MEL. It says fully refundable. I thought those sale fares always came with some penalty?

Are they truly fully refundable, back to my credit card? If so I might snap some of these up! Only marginally more than VA in some cases.

Yes, thanks! I saw that, but couldn’t quite believe it. I was wondering if there was some hidden catch I wasn’t aware of, like a ‘fee’ for it being fully refundable!

For a travel credit for example it has to be an equal or higher fare… which would pretty much default to the $799 or $999 or whatever the standard offering is. Cancellation seems too easy?

In another sale this year I booked AKL-MEL as a Business Sale fare. The fare conditions quoted a $150 cancellation fee.

I had to cancel it and received a refund minus $200. I called Qantas to ask where the other $50 was and they said the fare rules on their end stated this was non-refundable. But honoured the $150 cancellation fee after I proved this was what their website showed (the onus was on me to do this).

Moral of the story - you should be fine but take a screenshot of the fare rules at the time of booking!

That’s a good point! Thanks.

Anyone found a status run at under $5 per SC? Best I've found is a JQ Max fare to HNL @ $5.19 per SC. However, with inflation in the US and the current exchange rate I don't find HNL particularly attractive. (Nor JQ Y for that matter.)

Thought I'd found some great PER-x-NZ flights but all the domestic legs are in Y :(

I tried looking for 2 J fares Mel YVR in April or May 2023 staying for 3 weeks. All I can find are $10k or more each. Any hints on finding fares close to the $6k mentioned above. Thanks in advance.

There are some seats around the A$6k mark apparently. Spoke to someone who was able to find a QF operated, AA marketed flights from mid-April to early-May. There are also some QF and AC flights around the same dates.

The current Americas sale is $5,999 ex MEL and SYD to YVR. Looks like the sale fare flights out go via SYD from MEL (so bonus SCs).

I saw this on the QF website:

Look carefully at the return flights that bounce through LAX. The first flight might book into whY or PE rather than First.

This is at least the 3rd time this YVR sale fare has been on, so seats are probably limited - unless booking closer to 12mth out. Also, if you’re heading further east in Canada you can book open jaw into YVR and say home from YUL etc (for a couple $100 more).
