Qantas - Emirates Award flight Discussion

Dumb question alert for the brains trust: Is it possible to make a standalone Qantas classic rewards booking with Emirates from Malta to Larnaca (Cyprus)? Either by calling Qantas, or somehow online.

I can't get Malta to appear as a destination unless I start with a multi-city first leg in Rome FCO, but the routing is bad (from Rome, to London, then on to Malta), and charges don't make it worth it.

This is devastating news for people like me who can only afford to take one holiday per year and therefore will remain a lowly bronze QFF member forever, regardless of how many points I accrue :-( the emirates first class rewards seats were such a special goal to strive for

You (and millions more) are precisely the type of passenger they don't want redeeming for F, IMO.
The idea is - protect F seats for members who are active, flying, and contribute $$ to the airline.

Id say that these are the guys caught in the crossfire. Its really aimed at the big points churners in the US that can freely transfer around. They were doing that a lot directly to skyward and now thats shut down QFF redemptions must have gone up.

Somewhat yes, but miles sales to US banks are worth considerably more than other regions.
Plus, EK Gold is easy to get with a CC in the USA.

More airlines will limit premium inventory to status holders this year.

So will still over 2 million QFF points and now being unable to redeem on EK F, I only need 200 SC for lifetime Silver LOL

On the rare chance more F seats do become available to those silver and above, guess I'm flying MEL-SYD-CHC-SYD-MEL in J and F to get 200SCs....

I really would struggle to use up my points, except on EK F (J is a waste of points) and I don't do much domestic travel these days

I presume just the booker.

I was searching this morning to see what random dates had 2 F seats and it allowed me to do that with no info entered for the 2nd PAX (which is typical).

Regardless, I’d be very surprised if it was only PS+ that could ever get EK F.

Even the current QF system of better visibility for SG+ doesn’t restrict you to booking seats for only SG+.

Nice! But don't forget no QFF status credits on awards as they're under the EK codes...

I can get DXB-MEL easily, but as mentioned somewhere in this thread TO DXB from EU/LHR seems to never work. I get an error every time

I managed to book MEL-DXB in Game changer F and then I've paid for Y DXB-CDG

But I want to book a few more while I still can..... (before Feb changes to Silver and above)

Does not seem like it at the moment unfortunately. However you can book other routes to Dubai from Europe like Milan-DXB-MEL, and Rome-DXB-MEL all in F if you search them as married segments and not by their individual legs, just to name a couple of options.

try looking at AMS-MEL. Plenty of F availability for 2 up till May

The business class redemptions were already of horrendous value, and to me not really with it, in very old aged A380 cabins with 3.5k fees for a return trip to Europe.

First class was really the only valuable thing EK offered on a trip to Europe (and pretty much never possible from Australian cities anyway), now even that's become more expensive and gatekept by silver.

And why bother getting silver given that F class has disappeared from reward bookings? I haven't seen it in many months on any route I search.

The points game is really getting absurdly bad now.

A380's are being refurbished and to/from Australia are the refurbished ones

Agree that taxes on J redemtoions are too high

First class was possible easily prior to August this year.

Now first class is back, but limited to/from EU/LHR from DXB

If I can still pick up F MEL-DXB and then J DXB-CDG etc I'll be happy

Silver on QF will cost me about $1,200 with a DSC offer and I'm not that far off LTS anyways

But yes the points games sucks now

I'm looking for seats back towards end of Jan which I am about to book on SQ J in savers, but happy to burn some QF points while I still can

I have plenty of points to book MEL-LHR return in F if they make it available for when I am able to travel. I have wanted to try EK F for a long time.

It will be interesting to see what happens to availability.
