Qantas-Emirate partnership gives me headaches.

Why are people bothering to respond to the OP who is obviously winding people up? It has been proven that the booking is possible.

We have already had the "teach a man to fish" and "give a man a fish" posts.

Anything else you are posting is just going to cause your blood pressure to rise.

I won't use the T word or fe*** but...

Could you please attempt to book SYD-BKK on QF, then BKK-LHR-BUD on BA but use your SYD departure on 10th May 2013 and see if you can use your QFF points to pay for this. Thank you.

No seats available with QF to BKK on that date for an Award booking - all using CX via HKG. You need to be extremely flexible if you want to use FF points - dates make all the difference. Log in, choose your dates and spend some time researching what you need yourself. Only way you'll learn how to book a QF & BA flight from AU without the need to fly via DBX. . . . .

That sounds sensible. Thanks. One lives and learns.

I am sorry about my mathematics. I now have 552 points after spending 167,048. My calculator is more accurate than my brain and it tells me that I started of with 167,600.

What did you "buy"??

I believe Mr Joyce is the CEO of Qantas whose tie up is not to my advantage in spite of the public relations exercise is tring its best to ensure that the public will accept it.

[At the risk of feeding the troll], you'll find that AJ's primary responsibility is to his shareholders and that the merger is an attempt to bring Qantas International back to profitability. That, in turn, is to the advantage of all Qantas passengers as a loss-making airline can't survive forever....

It seems as though you feel Qantas owes you something! It doesn't, it owes something to the customer base overall, and while the tie up may not suit you, it damn well suits me fine! It eliminates a stop for all European destinations bar 2.

If your not happy with the changes, go to BA, CX, or any other carrier of your choice!

Well, you are right, Qantas did owe me 167600 points. However I spent them now on a flight which used to be avialble to me, but did not seem possible unless I went to Dubai, which caused me some extra time in the air and waiting.

Seems your TA perhaps didn't look too hard? The following schedule QF & BA all the way (one way) 86,000 points in Y, straight off the QF website (note a Saturday flight showed AY being the only flight available, but changing dates soon helped that):

Any idea why it's possible to book an itinerary such as this as an award booking, but seemingly impossible to book SYD-BKK-LHR after April online as a regular (ie paid) multi-city booking ? All dates I tried across the year came up with no availability.

One can book just the BKK-LHR leg on Qantas.com, but all options are via Dubai on EK (and of course with the need to pick up tickets within two days from the office in central Bangkok !).

Has BA removed access to BA10 out of BKK to Qantas as a regular booking, or has Qantas decided not to provide it as an option anymore ?

So what routing did you get?

Aaawwww, where's mummy when you need her??

You win some, you lose some. Didn't they teach you that in primary school? Or maybe you weren't listening.

Sure looks that way. Although it's *really* odd that if you try booking that particular leg, it comes up as unavailable on the QF AU site, but surprisingly, comes up if you try the same from BKK only, albeit only EK. Guess if you want to fly with BA, you have to book through the BA site - QF obviously doesn't want anything to do with them any more. . . . .

did the OP try ringing the QF Frequent Flyer service centre to make his/her booking, not every option is displayed on the QF website.

OT: I prefer the phrase:

Give a man some firewood and he's warm for a night. Set fire to a man and he's warm for the rest of his life

Yes, it IS possible to book SYD-BKK-LHR on BA.com, using BA codeshare on Qantas metal for SYD-BKK and then BA10 for BKK-LHR.

But it seems that it is no longer possible to book the same flight combination on Qantas.com.

Is this Qantas' fault or BA's ???

1. Thanks for backing up my point of the inconvenience of the Qantas-Emirate partnership. :p 2. I did have a phone call from Qantas and while I was given no reply to my fax addressed to Mr. Joyce, I was told how much he appreciated the feedback I provided.:) 3. If people, who criticized my complaint about the Emirate connection, would be kind enough to read the Sydney Morning Herald article at Qantas travellers could be left waiting in the wings they would see that I might not be the last to be inconvenienced by this partnership. :( 4. Having spent all my FF points I am now disinterested in any further discussion on this matter. :D
