Qantas double status credits OR double points offer [book 23-28 March 2023]

Looking for some help with a DSC booking I have. I booked a flexible Y fare SYD <>HND for august with Amex travel. I would like to change the itinerary to SYD > HND > BKK > SYD. HND > BKK has been difficult to find a flight on the QF website the dates I need so I might need to do that leg separately.

If I ring amex travel to change my booking to either SYD > HND > BKK > SYD or SYD > HND, BKK > SYD. Will this change my PNR or not so I can maintain the DSC on the booking?

HND-BKK won't be eligible for DSC anyway, it may be more cost effective to make an entirely new HND-BKK-HND booking? (once you factor in Amex change fees etc)

Oh yes I know, I want to change the return flight hnd > syd to bkk > syd. If changing the return leg would that cause a problem for double sc on my booking?

Assuming the PNR remains the same, and the flight is still within the eligible travel window, it should be fine.

Does changing the routing usually change the PNR or should it stay the same?

Breakdown as follows:

> Classic Reward Flight (PER-SYD-OOL) + (OOL-MEL-PER) was AUD 149 + 40,600 points.

> Business Class Flight (OOL-MEL-AKL Return) was AUD 1,687.

Did you do this without any breaks so presumably no sleep for 2 nights in a row?

Has anyone had double points instead of status credits appear? My wife assures me she clicked the double status credits option but her postings suggest otherwise.

Qantas have asked for “proof” that she did so but they don’t seem to send a confirmation email and it’s certainly not the type of thing I’d think to screenshot although maybe we need to in future! Come to think of it, did anyone else grab a screenshot?
23 Mar 2023 am - four (4) people received the confirmation email "you have been registered for the Double Status Credits offer"
23 Mar 2023 pm - same 4 people booked the same flights for 7 June, returning 12 June
07 Jun 2023: 4 ppl flight out on the same itinerary
08 Jun 2023: 2 of 4 ppl receive SC + double points; other 2 ppl received DSC
12 Jun 2023: same 2 of 4 ppl receive SC + double points, same 2 ppl received DSC
13 Jun 2023: contact QFF, asked to provide proof. I forward the confirmation email and QFF confirms receipt
03 Jul 2023: 2 of 4 passengers still waiting for DSC
*** edited to include an update below ***
04 Jul 2023: all DSC awarded after a phone call

Will Qantas automatically award DSCs for a flight that was eligible but had Points/SCs claimed via “find missing points”?

Qantas moved a leg on one of my bookings that was eligible for DSCs. They (incorrectly) credited SCs for the new leg (which earned 0 SCs) rather than the old leg. I called the call centre, who said that they will lodge a missing points claim for the original flight.

The SCs from the original flight has come through, but I am still missing the extra double SCs. I have had the double SCs come through for the other legs, and I just got credited “double SCs” for the new, 0 SC flight.

I wasn’t too worried until I had the wrong double SCs credited.

I’m fine waiting for the SCs to come in, but I’m wondering if I need to call Qantas to actually start the automatic credit of DSCs.

You will need to follow up. I’m rather impressed that my DSCs have been coming through within 48 hours often less

I completed the DSC status run to Auckland last weekend. Thought I’d share my overall experience:

PER-SYD [15 SC + 15 SC] (Classic reward flight, with PC membership)
SYD-OOL [7 SC + 7 SC] (Classic reward flight, with PC membership)
OOL-MEL [60 SC + 60 SC] (Business class DSC promotion)
MEL-AKL [80 SC + 80 SC] (Business class DSC promotion)

AKL-MEL [80 SC + 80 SC] (Business class DSC promotion)
MEL-OOL [60 SC + 60 SC] (Business class DSC promotion)
OOL-MEL [11 SC + 11 SC] (Classic reward flight, with PC membership)
MEL-PER [15 SC + 15 SC] (Classic reward flight, with PC membership)

Overall 656 SC which has gotten me to just under 1,000 SC – I now have 10 months to get another circa 200 SC which I hope to do with work and personal travel. My bonus SC from the DSC promotion were posted within 24 hours – thank you Qantas. To be honest, I’ve always had bonus SC posted within a day or two and have never had any issues.

Some observations:

1. First time in OOL airport, the QC lounge was fine, perfectly suited me and what I wanted to do (i.e. work in a corner with a coffee and sparkling water). It was very busy however, and similarly busy on the return journey.

2. First time in the Melbourne QF F lounge – what a lovely lounge! I managed to get booked in for a hot stone massage, and had a great meal getting a table right in the corner of the dining area overlooking the tarmac – fantastic with the sun setting. I reckon the overall experience was up there in my top 2 or 3 F lounge experiences globally! I’ve been many times to the SYD F lounge, but I actually enjoyed the MEL F Lounge more from this single visit. Perhaps this was a one off, but no complaints from me!

3. MEL to AKL Flight was only 1/4 full, with J class having maybe 3 people, so service was spectacular! I’ve said before I’ve never had ‘bad’ service on QF, only average to incredible experiences, and this service was up there – thank you QF. :)

4. After getting through passport control (fully automated in AKL so didn’t have to interact with anyone!), I went down to the arrivals hall. There were barely any people around. I spent the four hours actually just on my headphones mostly walking around the arrivals hall, I reckon I got about 15,000 to 20,000 steps in – perfect to burn off the excessive J class and F and J lounge food I’d been engorging. :D

5. In the morning when the departure area opened I went to the Qantas ‘F’ lounge. I thought I’d be able to see renovations taking place, but didn’t really notice anything. The Auckland QF lounge was tiny and very outdated as many have observed in the past, but service was fantastic and there were hardly any people around. Plus I just logged onto my notebook and worked.

6. First time in the MEL QF J domestic lounge since 2019 (pre-COVID) – I like the renovations and the total split of Qantas Club from J Lounge, I remember having to walk through the QC to get to the J lounge. However food still leaves a bit to be desired, similar to the PER and SYD J lounges. Why have these mountains of salads etc that no one touches and maybe two or three nice dishes. Minor gripes aside, always nice to have a place to work and have a coffee. I don’t drink alcohol on status runs as the sleep patterns are already ruined, and alcohol contributes negatively to the few hours I can catch on a flight.

Overall very easy and effective with just a backpack with my notebook, chargers, headphones. I used the showers in F and J lounges to stay refreshed and had some small changes of clothing essentials. Like many on the AFF I reckon we all have our routines for this type of thing. It’s been five years since my last status run (which was with MH intra SE Asia), but going West to East coast brought back memories of the old NAN and CHC status runs of more distant past. :)
Thanks for the report...I'm doing Syd-Ool-Mel-Akl-Mel-Syd next month on a WE but overnighting in a cheap hotel near Akl :) Your insights are helpful.

Yep, all my DSCs have been coming through within 48 hours too. I have a feeling Qantas needs to manually credit DSCs for my original routing, but call centre staff insist “your DSCs will come through in 8 weeks”

I'm going to kill someone soon - booked SYD-CHC-SYD J on the DSC offer. QF139 outbound was cancelled by QF, they then put me on EK 7 hours later, so I missed my first nights' accom and transport plus had to do taxis back home and back to SAP again. Out of pocket $500, but that's not the issue.

I have never got my DSC or points for the EK leg. I have spoken to 4 separate QF consultants and they all promised to rectify. Finally spoke to someone this morning who said I have to prove I was on the EK. Please get boarding passes and send to QF. I said YOU put me on the EK flight, you do the legwork. Sorry sir "click".

Lucky I kept all the docs but now I am on hold for call 5... and the journey starts afresh each time, another 1 hour on hold, and 1 hour when trying to explain what happened to me.

Email the Frequent Flyer email account and request "Original Routing Credit" plus DSC attaching your original booking details and the re-routed booking details along with the information from Qantas where they cancelled your original flight and put you on the EK flight.
