Plane was absolutely full - not a single seat left.

• When I dropped my bag at SYD T1 Domestic transfers check-in after clearing customs, there was not a single seat available in rows 4, 5 or 6. This was about T-80 minutes.
• Upon arriving at the SYD T3 J Lounge, I tried again as well as exit rows. At this point I was told there was not a spare seat left with at least 41 people on standby (i.e. I could not move to even a "worse" seat if I really wanted to). The lounge desk attendant placed the blame squarely on the Grand Prix.

Ohh and the MEL-ADL was weird. Got a phone call the afternoon the day before - oversold flight, MEL-ADL, did I want to be transferred to a direct PER-ADL. I said no, as I didn't want to pay for another hotel night (didn't think to ask QF to pay). But the oversold seemed correct as OLCI was giving me no seat option. But then the next morning once in MEL, there were many seat options - hence moving to row 13, and I even got an empty middle seat. Either the guy on the phone got lotsa people to move, or maybe he was trying to cut down on my extra points for flying via MEL.
