Today I spent an hour from 5 to 6 pm at the Melbourne domestic Business lounge. It was peak pie consumption time, but none appeared. I have not flown domestic Qantas for two years, and wondered if I was there at the wrong time or are pies "off the menu".

The food was fine, just a party pie needed to make it great!

This will make you jealous - WLG lounge a couple of weeks backImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1407759949.713378.jpg

I didn't think NPPP (Neil Perry Party Pies) were still being offered... usually it's a plate of cheese :( but sometimes you can find things more substantial. Last Wednesday it appeared to be Taco Tuesday :p

Does anyone know the name of that beef and potato and cheese dish, sometimes appears to the right hand side of the ingredients for the toasties (sandwich ingredients)?
Toast the bread and spread that gruel over it, what with no hot dogs, no pies, no "Asian inspired finger food", that beef thing was the next best thingo.
Plus a cider of course, my dentist has warned me off sweet aerated drinks, coca cola etc, but I don't know what he will say when he sees the state of my teeth and gums! but I can make the oath, I have had coca cola in months.

Lasagne a couple of weeks ago, and mac n cheese Sunday night. Beats having a sandwich!

Island dining had pies two weeks ago in SYD J.

SYD business lounge used to have party pies and spinach and cheese triangles ~3:00pm-4:00pm on a Sunday. Haven't seen them in a while.

BNE business lounge has had some sort of gourmet pie recently but that appears to be island dining.

The big pies in BNE J are not exactly island dining. The staff was walking around and offering them to everyone (after 6pm IIRC). Maybe they changed the concept of island dining to general dining ;)

I'd still call that island dining. They are not on display and they don't always get around to everyone anyway.

What I meant it's not "traditional" island dining where you sit on the big table and someone comes and takes your order from the menu.
It's more similar to the pretzels which are offered to everyone from time to time.

I tried the bangers in the mel J lounge the other week and they were horrible. Just had mash with gravy in the end. Talk about yuck offal filled sausages!

So toasted sangers ala VA the lounge wins hands down (OR) the variety we find in the QF the QP wins hands down?
At least with VA the lounge, we know its er ham.

I have a sandwich for lunch every day. The last thing I want/need is a sandwich in the lounge.

Let's just say veriety is the order of the day. I have even been a good boy and trying out all the curry dishes along with the Thai green chicken curry they had a few weeks ago. ;)

I will try anything too, except curry.
Some people seem to get up to use the loo on the plane, at any time during a flight, ((I don't know if its the big one or the small one-you get my drift)), but I never eat curry at least a few hours before a flight.
In case I get the runs.
Sitting on the loo a few hours before having to get to the airport, or using an airport loo/on plane loo because I have eaten curry, its just too scary to think about!
Sangers yes, cider yes, fruits yes, ...
I have a trans Tasman flight in a few days, MR if you must, and I am already thinking of what to eat, to ensure I don't need the loo at SYDi or on the plane!
