Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Seat is a big deal, especially compared to a Y seat on coast to coast. Lie-flat even bigger deal, even for domestic. Meals maybe important, but seat more-so.
 
IIRC 150 lashes (and other beers) used to be bottled. noticed a few pics now with cans. Not a huge deal but interesting. Wondering if this is a bar cart space saver or something else? Any other beers in cans that used to be in bottles noticed?
 
re the f&b and QF J catering (domestic). honestly over the years I eat less and less inflight (except out of OOL lol). Mostly because I fly 2-3h flight sectors max or less eg MEL-ADL/SYD/BNE. Longest flight I have coming up bar a transcon(which I will eat on for better or worse) is MEL-CNS which is around 3h or so iirc. Point being that can either eat in lounge before, or get something else on the ground. I'll survive without whatever food in flight. Sometimes I just drink water or wine on a flight maybe with the salty "count the nuts" mix. Or sometimes the soup is a decent snacky option with sourdough. I don't decide if I will or won't fly based on the food on a 2 hour flight, because it is not the priority and if the options sound poor well I'm happy to pass and organise food for myself.
Each to their own I guess that's just me. I mean flying J is more than the food, and it's sure why we don't fly.. there is the point of going from one place to another in a tube.
I bet if I asked "Would you prefer spirits back in J OR a much better quality food offering" you'd have many split opinions (yes we all want BOTH :D )

Being from PER, it takes a little while for me to get anywhere and back.

I never eat in the lounge. As someone who never bothers with the IFE, I prefer to sit back in J and enjoy a wine or two and the meal in the air as general relaxation. And, as many have observed, often the initially confronting meal appearance disguises something that is actually reasonably tasty.

Of course, expectations in INT are considerably higher...
 
I wanted to check if Qantas still do specific meal times for dinner (asking about the BNE-SYD route) in business or would they serve up similar meals regardless of timing? I was tossing up around which flight to book (where 4pm or a bit later).

Options were a Quinoa Salad, Chicken with a lemon sauce and a Beef Brisket.

Went with the Brisket. It was nice enough, nowhere near Meat Maiden standard but it doesn’t get much better than that! Came with a rosti which was swimming in the sauce so a bit soggy, but it was still fairly tasty. A couple of vege’s to round out the meal. Served with the standard accompaniments.

No pre-departure drink but the lunch service was quick anyway so it wasn’t the end of the world.

Exact same on QF851 DRW-PER today. Had the chicken and lemon sauce and vegetables were soggy but the rest was good. Cherry cake was excellent. ~25 min delay due to congestion so lunch was served as soon as seat belt came off.

No sign of soup or nuts on my recent domestic and trans-Tasman flights in business.

I think they still have specific meal times. 9am international departure had lunch. Same as pre-covid.

AKL-SYD, QF148 on A330-300:

It took over an hour after the initial welcome champagne (yep, proper French champagne), until a crew member finally handed out some tiny water bottles and yet another 15 or so minutes until they appeared with a trolley. Disappointingly, the meal service was- well, Domestic: No menu cards, choice of two mains served together with a Lindt ball and a tiny packaged cherry tart. One choice was a lamb shank which I’m sure I’ve seen further up this thread from a domestic flight and the other option was chicken breast with green beans and polenta. Also offered were some Domestic-typical warmed slices of bread.

Both dishes were rather tasty so I can’t really complain about taste but not having a starter, salad or proper desert (I was really longing for some cheese) was distinctly underneath what you usually get on Qantas trans-Tasman J. I later asked for a Bloody Mary but was laughed at by one of the rather clueless crew members:“Haha, not on these flights Sir!” I wondered what she meant by “these flights” but hey, they had plenty of champers left (a Duval Le Roi at the beginning and then later a change to Jacquart, so same brands as prior to Covid and most likely whatever they had left from back then). Seems like if Qantas announces that you get proper Champagne from now on, they mean you get champagne. Full stop.

So sounds like things are returning to normal then in international J.
 
@Berlin same as my experience trans-Tasman 2 flights this week. Food identical to domestic. Beverage differences were pre departure champagne or water, tiny water bottle, more drink top ups, and wines predominantly NZ instead of Australian.
 
This morning’s CBR-SYD flight QF1504 breakfast of champions. With a 8.45 departure it was a pleasant surprise to see a sparkling wine available with breakfast before 9am.

That's a mighty impressive effort for a flight that's barely in the air for 30 minutes. Every time I've flown CBR-SYD in J there was just one small, cold plate offered (e.g. a small salad) - never hot food. And even then, they would often only get to serving rows 2 & 3 at the top of descent.
 
tbh there is rarely anything "special" about QF dom J catering. Even moreso since Covid but even before. Each to their own but I have never considered the catering to be special. Certainly not gourmet in any way.

Don't get me wrong I've had some fantastic meals over the years (I still don't quite know why most of them seem to be ex-OOL) but in the main it's not a priority for QF and not for me.

For the price charged on that route it should come with a side of caviar and a foot massage.
 
On my flight SYD-HBA on 23rd, we had eye fillet steak in economy (the flight was a chartered 737). Reasonably tender enough, but very well done. Obviously cooked too much initially so reheating killed it. That night at dinner at MONA the Qantas crew were introduce, including the chef who “represented Neil Perry”. As we had just eaten the most tender, rare/medium-rare eye fillet, we were all saying he would probably rather not have been mentioned!

I forgot to take a photo. Trays, metal cutlery and cloth serviettes in economy class are a rarity. I’ve been kicked off the charter now as the only Western Australian, so won’t be able to photograph further meals. I am not allowed to enter SA or NT, so will fly home tonight HBA-PER. A normal 737 but at least I am in J.
