Oh That sucks! I had hot breakfasts (snacks) on my last two MEL-SYDs!

Thats not filling enough but true its after 9am breakfast service

Well QF breakfast for me is almost the same as VA. I would have flown VA for this route, but I only flew QF as it was part of an international itinerary. I posted the international Y meals on subsequent flight on the other thread.

19 December 2025: QF029 Y MEL-HKG

The first meal with beef, the pretzels, ice cream and cookie were OK. The mash potato tasted very average.

The second/light pasta meal looked bad, tasted bad ......

No photos but I only received a packet of crackers and hummus dip on QF490 last Sunday from MEL to SYD which departed at 7:15pm.

Was expecting a hot snack (perhaps a pie or something) so I was a bit disappointed. I am sure a lot of punters feel the same way as it is a dinner time departure.

Hopefully this is a one off as we had a last minute swap to an A333 (from an intl configured A332) which they had to bring down from SYD so it might have messed up the catering.

Im pretty sure on SYD-MEL/MEL-SYD dinner is only served on flight with a departure time between 17:30 and 18:59 which is cheeky.

These are good.

SYD-MQL dep 10:25 am - all we received was a solitary banana flavored Byron Bay cookie ... there was however a second round of the drinks cart.

QF are really pushing the Q400 out to it's max - SYD-MQL was one of the longest hops at 800 km +, but now we've got both BNE to CBR and WGA, both at ~1,000 km.

But even if there had been bacon this would have been inedible.

It really did taste as bad as it looked.

I took one small bite and left the rest.

Quick update - there was wine., and cheese and bikkies.
In the 'old' days flying on the 717's out of Brisbane on a Friday night flight, there was always a 'something in a box' type hot meal, and refills on the wine.

I really dislike it when everyone has to have a vegetarian meal just because there may be a few vegetarians on board. Pre-Covid the bacon and egg on an English muffin on the SYD-MEL was always appreciated as real food fo those who knew we'd be rushing to a meeting right off the plane.

They must have tested these on people whose tastebuds died or got burnt on hot food because it was not 'bursting with flavour'. Could only stomach myself (pun intended) to eat one.

Either Neil has had a fight with his butcher, or the bean counters at Roo HQ have decided that meat and chicken are no good for the bottom line.

At least it had pumpkin!

The pumpkin would exclude it being eaten by a decent portion of AFF. I don't mind the combination of flavours myself.

They did have a meat pie some time ago - some sort of red wine beef thing I believe @serfty posted. Or maybe it was butter chicken pie.

Now we had a quiche, with bacon, for breakfast last week in business SYD-MEL

But i think the absence of bacon turns it from breakfast into lunch/dinner?

Anyway, when i’m in the economic cabinI don’t mind when people decline… it means seconds when they come back!
