Qantas ditches SAA codeshare

I know that under the current management this will not occur, but.............

might Qantas move the SYD-JNB non-stop flight to:
PER-DXB 3 flights per week.
PER-JNB 4 flights per week.

I would also appreciate if EK change from 2 non-stop DXB-PER flights per day, to:
1 daily DXB-PER-DXB flight
1 daily DXB-SIN-PER-SIN-DXB flight
(both QF codeashared of course)

That's promising!

Depends if your into weasel words, to say any route left generates cash is a weasel word statement. All routes generate cash the moment someone buys a ticket, but do they generate or make a profit?

Qantas made it very clear that in the absence of a codeshare, the route (Aus to SA) would be served by a single carrier in their submission for approval.

I doubt they give a toss about doing anything out of Perth, so much for any future of a Western hub of Australia unless its what the foreign airlines make of it...

Cutting one flight after another over recent years there would be no critical mass to do anything here with one flight a day and i doubt QF will be front of mind in any overseas plans for Perth people as they are non existent... Be interesting to see back 3-4 years what QF Int flights we had, would have at least been 2 x Sin, 1 x HKG, 1 x NRT, ? x DPS... Now we get a couple of seasonal flights to SIN and AKL...

In the context of the conversation in regard to "loss making", the direct implication is those routes remaining are not. So they indeed cover their costs; therefore "make a profit"

"Weasel words" is harsh let alone being inaccurate IMHO.

So why say making cash rather than profit? Everybody who owns a business knows that's two different things, you could read into that statement (if you swap cash for profit) that the route cuts are done, I am betting they are not. That whole interview if full of weasel words, something many a CEO can be accused of.

Which ones in your opinion will be cut? Any that will go this year?

JNB, MNL and CGK, Noumea may stay with little option but to downsize to 738s on Sundays.

I disagree. I do note that that it would have been better if Sarah Henderson had responded immediatly with a question "So none of the route to stay are making a loss?'. But she seemed a little stunned at the reply.

I don't believe there will be any further Qantas operate (not JQ) route cuts this year.

Just been reading QR to introduce 3 additional DOH-JNB flights to the current daily schedule with 787 being used from 1 May. QR also has 4 DOH-CPT weekly.

And they seemed shocked when PER-AKL actually was popular and made a profit! QF route planning people are idiots.

Who knows what AJ meant by the comment, but assumed he would have stated profit if all the remaining routes were profitable. I assumed it meant the route covered variable costs, but not necessarily fixed overheads (vs routes that don't even cover variable costs).

Do QF own all their 747s outright? If so it may not make for a pretty future for some routes when they come to retirement age...

Ah; contribution accounting! Now there's an interesting idea.
