Qantas disguises first class seats as $20 ‘cabin in the clouds’ on Airbnb

Hello this thread has been helpful for this promo so thank you! Only issue I am having is that nothing seems to come up when I search on website or app. I am using “anywhere” $20, and “plane” but no luck! I can access the 4 listings showing currently when I click on the link provided in this forum but any idea why they aren’t coming up in my searches? Thanks :)

Believe the result only shows when there are live dates whereas the links from the user page can still be live with no bookable dates

I'm having the same issue but got lucky with the Singapore one popping up, just not lucky enough to book it. I did the exact same search as you.

Ah ok now I get it! Have the search open and the direct link page open and refreshing as much i can whilst attempting work... thanks for your help!

This feels like when I used to buy hyped sneakers online, but I had bots back then. Now it just feels like pure luck unless some developer decided to code up a script/bot for this special occasion.

I noticed that. sneaky sneaky.

Also, I actually quite like this as a promo, its very different but quite fun

Yep... noticed the changes in the profile "QFF 50,000 Qantas Points Plus $20’s listings"...

So frustrating I have looked and looked and looked and then as some people have suggested put $20 anywhere and plane in search and I have continually refreshed most of the day and not seen anything

I see it as a treasure hunt, albeit one with awesome and valuable prizes. Like a treasure hunt there are clues to help you such as those discussed on this thread and in the media.

It's very likely that only a handful of seats are available and it's also likely that there's thousands of people hitting the refresh button like you and I. Most of us will win nothing but I find it mostly fun trying.

For those of us hunting for this bargain, when the listing does go up it's usually booked within a minute. Once it's booked the listing will be gone, due to no availability, so most of us won't even get a chance to go into the listing or even see the listing showing up on results.

I've managed to get to the listing four times now and I'm sure the tech savy ones on here aren't sitting there refreshing the page non-stop.

I tend to agree. Will be a few people running bots that will be quicker than you.

I bought bots for the purpose of buying limited edition sneakers so I can resell them, too bad there are no bots on the market for this activity :(

I'm not sure automation would feature as much as many think. There's a great amount of uncertainty once a listing is found - do you even want the destination/date listed? If you were automating this knowing you have one shot at it because the T&C say you only win once, are you just going to automatically take the first one listed? If what you're doing is alerting someone to a listing, that's all well and good but they still need to be there in front of their PC to snag it. A lot of luck would feature here moreso than software I would think.

It's all well and good to write scripts/bots but you still need the 50,000 points. Presumably its the younger generation who would have these skills.

They could probably monitor/scrape for certain words in the listing e.g. Qantas, 50,000, London. I think some would just be happy to win regardless of destination and once they've won one they would turn off the script/bot.

Yes, but they'd have to have written and tested one in the first place. And to be truly automated, it'd have to search, find a Qantas listing (and you better hope it doesn't go randomly booking other listings), find the available dates, book and pay.

Given you have nothing to go off until the listing is posted, it'd have to be entirely untested.

As someone who has dabbled with writing these things before, this is not the use case where I'd automate a thing past alerting me of a listing. It can only be done once, that means that the code will only ever execute once and that's if you happened to get it right. That's a lot of IP for a one off run. You're also at a disadvantage over those who casually search in that you are repeatedly searching, so it's trivial for AirBNB to throw up an odd error page or rate limit your requests and you'd miss out.
