Qantas Delays/Cancellations

A380 woes continue

QF93 MEL to LAX for 5 Oct delayed from 09:45 to 15:00 and counting. Apparently engineering still doing something or other with the plane -OQD
As per Cpt it needed some seals replaced in the wings. And there were some screws that were resistant to change. Now 15:57 and we are doing the safety demo so should push back soon

A388 VH-OQD on 'the 93' was airborne from MEL at 1617 hours with Monday 5 October gate arrival in LAX forecast as 1211 hours, 366 minutes late.

Separately, A333 VH-QPD on QF59, the scheduled 1215 hours SYD up to HND was airborne at 1326 with gate arrival tonight suggested as approximately 2048 hours, 38 minutes late.

Including today's, QF7, the A380 timetabled to depart SYD at 1200 'high noon' to DFW hasn't had good punctuality in its last eight outings. Today's should arrive DFW at 1302 hours, 32 late, but in this period, there have been two cancellations, Friday's arriving more than four hours behind schedule, Thursday's over 100 minutes late, and Wednesday's almost 80 minutes late arriving at gate.

QFi's flight status page is now showing the Monday 5 October SYD-SIN-LHR delayed to an expected 2230 hours very late night departure from Sydney.

This puts it in danger of missing curfew.
After a mere 2 hour turnaround, OQC has just made it out in time as QF1 from Sydney to Singapore https://fr24.com/QFA1/41fb03b0

The crew agreed to work over hours (beyond 20 hour limit I think?) to get us to LA so I was very grateful! The captain even came to every pax in First class to personally apologise the delay!!

QFi's flight status page is now showing the Tuesday 6 October SYD-SIN-LHR delayed to an expected 1845 hours departure from Sydney.

Yes, minutes in it to curfew. No doubt relief onboard and elsewhere.
2 1/4 hours wheels on to wheels off is a solid effort.

True, but how well could the aircraft be cleaned given it takes time for the many passengers to alight from the arrival, and boarding for departure commences a long time prior to the hoped for pushback time?

This delayed QF1 with A388 VH-OQC is expected to arrive at its LHR gate bang on 1200 'high noon' today UK time, 325 minutes late. It was 380 minutes late arriving in SIN: it is common for QF1 to pick up time on the second sector, which like so many international flights by almost all airlines has padding in the schedule.

VH-LQK has been sitting in DPO most of the day yesterday after operating flights below (Qantas Delays/Cancellations):
QF2051 scheduled MEL 08:20 - DPO 09:30, was delayed off MEL and arrived DPO at 11:33.
QF2052 scheduled DPO 09:55 - MEL 11:05 is now scheduled as DPO 17:10 - MEL 18:20

No idea why it was sitting on tarmac all day, but it did depart about 30 minutes after arrival of QF2057. The only idea I can have is crew issue - replacement arrived on QF2057???

And it all continues, today's
QF2050 scheduled to leave DPO at 06:30 left 08:34 (after coming to DPO as QF2049 this morning due to QF2059 being cancelled last night) and QF2051 again over 2 hours late from MEL.

Hong Kongers gold digging express QF128/5 Oct has reported a 4 hour delay.
Originally scheduled to arrive at 7.45am today now has landed at 11.54am instead.
This would have major impact on Hong Kongers needing to dig gold in Australia after the long weekend and Qantas should be condemned for this delay.

On Monday 5 October 2026, QF63 from SYD (A388 VH-OQI) arrived in JNB at 1654 hours, 29 minutes late. The return QF64 (the 1845 hours) spent excess time on the ground, with takeoff at 1952. Tuesday 6 gate arrival in Sydney should be about 1642 hours, 47 late.

The 1305 hours MEL-SIN QF35 with A332 VH-EBA is predicted to shortly depart, at 1343 hours.

B789 VH-ZNC on the 6 October QF93 (0945 hours MEL-LAX) was not airborne until 1221 hours so likely same day gate arrival becomes 0816, 131 minutes late. As discussed above, the punctuality of this flight over much of the past week or so has been very poor.

Continuing with Tuesday 6 October, A388 VH-OQH arrived in SYD from LHR and SIN as QF2 at 0627 hours, 17 minutes late.

It is forming its own but the scheduled 1545 hours QF1 ex Sydney is delayed to an expected mid evening departure at 2100 hours.

Is this because the flight deck crew ex SYD yesterday only have one night in SIN before taking the next night's service on to LHR? @jb747 might be kind enough to inform us whether the stay for pilots is normally one, or two, nights in Singapore on the northbound journey.

Less likely it's anything to do with cabin crew ex SIN for LHR as these staff are London-based.

Updating yesterday's QF1 (VH-OQC) progress, it's now predicted to arrive at its LHR gate at 1221 hours, 346 minutes later than timetabled gate arrival of 0635 hours. Hopefully there won't be a delay to the 6 October QF2 ex Heathrow.

On Tuesday 6 October, the delayed QF1 (VH-OQH) was airborne from SYD at 2107 hours. SIN gate arrival is mooted as 0142 hours, 267 minutes late. It's claimed pushback from SIN will occur at 0350 hours local time.

Can passengers from Singapore request to catch QF82 instead to ensure they arrive on time?

SIN gate arrival was 0149 hours on Wednesday 7 October.

After a quite efficient stay on the ground that must have been less than two hours, the second sector to LHR was airborne at 0400 hours this morning, so gate arrival is forecast as 1010 hours, 215 minutes late.

There must be a problem with a B789 as VH-ZNL is currently tasking QF28 from SCL to SYD, suggested as arriving at gate at 1716 on Wednesday, 24 minutes early, to form QF5, the timetabled 1505 hours SYD-PER-FCO. The latter is optimistically predicted to push back in Sydney at 1825 early this evening.

A c.69 minute turnaround for international flights in Australia that are larger aircraft than a B738 or A320/A321 is unprecedented. A guess is not to expect departure prior to 1900 hours. There is a generous 155 minutes allowed in the timetable on the ground in Perth WA, so that should allow some of any deficit to be recovered, but the flight is certain to be delayed into Italy's Rome, the only question being 'by how much.'

There is also a larger than necessary 270 minute turnaround in Rome for QF5 to QF6 (0615 hours to 1045 hours) so if that can be reduced, it'll help QF6 ex FCO on Thursday 8 October to be less delayed.

Continuing with Wednesday 7 October, QF81, the 1120 hours SYD-SIN operated by A333 VH-QPM was expected to push back at 1210.

A333 VH-QPB on QF29, the 1115 hours MEL-HKG had been expected to depart at 1215 but looking at FR24, it wasn't yet 'live'.
