Qantas Delays/Cancellations

@Harrison_133 has kindly let us know that Airservices Australia says 'staffing shortages' on Saturday 8 August are again to adversely affect timekeeping of flights ex Sydney Airport.

I bet (again) some controllers have suddenly 'gone off sick'. Hmmm.
I haven’t seen anything that confirms SYD ATCs are utilising sick leave entitlements when not actually unwell.
I for one would prefer that if an ATC is unwell that he/she does not attend work in a condition that could lead to an error of judgement.

I agree… safety does come first… 1 error decision could be fatal for many people 😢

It’s day 4 today and yesterday according to 7 news was rated 7th worst delay airport in the world at a point in time yesterday ( did not say what time yesterday was the worst)

On Saturday 8 August, QF19 ex SYD arrived MNL at 2014 hours, 84 minutes late. A333 VH-QPK was slow to turn around, so QF20 (the 2035 hours) did not take off until 2355, arriving at its SYD gate on Sunday 9 at 0909 hours, 144 minutes behind schedule.

Why would you 'see anything'? These occurrences across industries are often done "quietly".

Airservices Australia is controlled by a government whose MPs receive funding from unions, so it's hardly going to say anything.

QF 81 (A380) delayed SYD-SIN an hour. Apparently a seal on the wing had to be “taped” which apparently couldn’t be done during its three-hour turn after arriving on time from LAX, and could then only be done after we all boarded.

Just pushed back, meanwhile the SQ A380 scheduled 40 minutes after us has already taken off.

Living with my choices today. 😉 At least air traffic control hasn’t been another issue.

QF81 has A388 VH-OQC. This 1020 hours SYD-SIN was in the sky at 1142 hours with gate arrival late this afternoon in Singapore forecast as 1751 hours, 56 minutes late.

Q400 VH-QOE is operating QF1497, the 1025 hours SYD down to BXG in Victoria that was in the sky at 1044. FR24's map suggests the aircraft is repeatedly circling near Bendigo. I am not there, but the weather forecast merely mentions 100 per cent chance of rain, omitting any mention of 'fog'. Timetabled arrival was 1210 hours but by 1226, the aircraft remained in the air.

Well in Eastern Melbourne area - very windy and ominous of rain - the weather wont be better near Melbourne Airport...

With unpleasant weather in MEL today (rainy, at times windy, and chilly), the airport looked to be on single runway operations by 1230 AEST.

Delays are not huge at this stage but may compound as the afternoon but may compound as the afternoon progresses, @tomlee1986 .
