Continuing with Thursday 30 July, QF67 (A332 VH_EBR) took off from SYD at 1030 hours with likely at gate arrival becoming 54 minutes late in BLR at 1729 hours.

QF81 (1020 hours SYD-SIN, A333 VH-QPC) was airborne at 1114 hours so arrival should be about 1742 hours late this afternoon Singapore time, 47 late.

On Wednesday 29, QF5 from PER to Italy's FCO (the 1935 hours) was in the sky at 2139 so Thursday 30 arrival looks to be 0737 hours, 82 minutes late for B789 VH-ZNK.

Yesterday's QF1 was late into SIN (see above) with the flight airborne from there at 0230 hours, so arrival on Thursday at LHR with A388 VH-OQI should be around 0854, 139 minutes behind the timetable.

Looks like the delayed QF3 (VH-ZNM) is taxing for take-off in Detroit to New York.

That aircraft was due to operate my QF81 on Saturday to Singapore. We've been moved to an A330-300 instead. Feel for the pax in premium economy who will be downgraded.

On Thursday 30 July, Q400 VH-QOF operated SYD-BNK-SYD normally as flights QF2035 and QF2038, arriving back in Sydney at 1241 hours, 19 minutes early.

It then formed QF2028, the morning 0850 hours SYD across to western DBO that took off in the early afternoon at 1334, arriving at 1418 hours, 263 minutes late. The return trip (QF2039) arrived in SYD at 1544 hours, 254 late. Although it had a very decent allowance on the ground for its next offering, the scheduled 1730 hours QF2182 to northwestern MRZ (Moree), this did not take off until 1818 hours, with arrival suggested as 1944 tonight, 49 minutes behind the timetable.

Far worse was QF2223, the late morning timetabled 1125 hours SYD-WGA airborne tonight at 1838 with another Q400, VH-84N with arrival forecast for 1919 hours tonight, 399 minutes late. This turboprop has been running late all day, with its initial flight (QF1422, the 0705 short hop from CBR to SYD) taking off at 0813 and arriving at 0918 hours, 63 late. Its 0825 hours SYD-ABX on the NSW/Victorian boder did not take off until 1526 this afternoon, arriving at 1624, 396 minutes late.

I assume fog has been the reason. It can be a gamble using these flights to/from inland destinations in NSW during winter: today, using NSW TrainLink's XPTs would have been quicker to Albury, and almost as quick to Dubbo despite the slow rail alignment over the Blue Mountains and especially between Lithgow and Orange.

I always wonder how many travellers with same day international connections use the first morning flight from a NSW rural city or town into Sydney, because if the last flight the previous night is badly late, even if there's not fog the next morning a service can still be delayed due to the need of airline crew to have 10 hours off duty overnight. Let's hope not too many miss their international flight.

Another example of Q400 turboprop delays on Thursday 30 July was QF2220, the scheduled early morning 0630 hours WGA-SYD not in the sky until 1103 with VH-84A. It arrived SYD at 1154 hours, 254 minutes late.

QF37, the 30 July 1555 hours MEL-SIN with A332 VH-EBJ pointed skywards at 1704, with mooted gate arrival late tonight Singapore time at about 2246 hours, 41 late.

Looks like the delayed QF3 (VH-ZNM) is taxing for take-off in Detroit to New York.

It took off from DTW at 2341 hours on Wednesday 29 July, arriving at JFK at 0056 on Thursday 30. I hope I have the days correct.

It is forming the 1920 hours Thursday 30 QF4 from JFK to AKL but this is altered to depart at 0025 on Friday 31, probably due to the need for crew to have adequate rest. The weather in New York City appears benign.

On Saturday 1 August, QF4 from AKL to SYD nominally becomes an 1130 hours departure instead of the normal 0645 hours.

UPDATE: Forecast departure for this QF4 has been extended to 0100 hours ex JFK.

A333 VH-QPH is on the Friday 31 July 0950 hours SYD-BKK, QF23. This was airborne at 1105. Forecast gate arrival becomes 1736 hours Thai time, 56 minutes late.

The delayed QF4 (B789 VH-ZNM) took off from New York City's JFK airport at 0104 hours on Friday 31 July with AKL gate arrival on Saturday 1 August suggested as 0931 hours, 276 minutes late. This should mean a midday arrival at its SYD gate also on Saturday.

In more on Friday 31 July, QF103 (2015 hours SYD up to HNL, A333 VH-QPL) is expected to become airborne at 2111 hours. This will make it challenging for QF104 (ex HNL also 31 July) to be punctual.

The delayed QF4 (B789 VH-ZNM) took off from New York City's JFK airport at 0104 hours on Friday 31 July with AKL gate arrival on Saturday 1 August suggested as 0931 hours, 276 minutes late. This should mean a midday arrival at its SYD gate also on Saturday.

I was somewhat optimistic.

On Saturday 1 August, QF4 arrived AKL at 0923 hours, 268 minutes late and took off from there at 1143 with SYD gate arrival likely at about 1249 hours which would be 269 minutes late.

It may be forming QF5. the 1405 hours SYD-PER-FCO in Italy as this is displaying as a 1430 hours proposed pushback. Not much time to clean the interior!

If FR24's airport mapping is correct, it looks like A333 VH-QPG on QF127, the Saturday 1 August 1010 hours SYD-HKG didn't taxi very far before (possibly) returning to its gate.

QF's flight status is suggesting it'll depart at 1140 with likely at gate arrival in Hong Kong 70 late at 1905 this evening HK time. This will delay either QF30 (to MEL) or 128 (to SYD) tonight. Another example of less than ideal timekeeping on a route that a couple of years ago tended to mostly be punctual.

The aircraft was in SYD since 30/07 as QF 20 from MNL and this flight was delayed then and stayed since then, and also the flight of QF 127 currently have no departure time at this time according to FR24 - also according to FR24, it actually went to runway and rejected takeoff

Mid morning, the 1200 'high noon' SYD-DFW (A388 VH-OQG) was displaying as punctual, but it's currently showing as an amended 1400 hours departure time.

Competitor Delta's DL40 SYD-LAX was also cancelled at short notice, so not a great day for USA-bound travellers.

It isn't unusual for QFi's A388s to suddenly have something that requires fixing and therefore delays departure.

UPDATE: QF7 was airborne at 1435 hours mid afternoon, with same day DFW arrival at gate likely to be around the 1427 hours mark, 117 minutes late but in plenty of time to form a punctual QF8 back down to Sydney.

It promptly formed QF5, the 1405 hours early afternoon SYD-PER-FCO in Italy. Takeoff from Sydney was achieved at 1508 with arrival at gate 35 late at 1735. There is a fairly generous two and a half hours allowed in Perth for the intermediate stop so if all goes well, the flight should be up up and away and arriving in Italy as much as 20 minutes early if recent flights are any guide. Wind conditions vary.

QF5 has mostly been a good timekeeper in the last few weeks: it's usual for the Perth arrival (ex Sydney or Rome) to be early.

Interesting that QFi's frequency to Rome is greater than Paris during peak times for Oz to Europe visitation. From talking with friends who like many AFFers have the financial means to travel to Europe, for many Italy is their #1 destination, ahead of France and Spain.

On Friday 31 July, the scheduled 2330 hours QF12 from LAX to SYD (A388 VH-OQA, the class leader) did not take off until Saturday 1 August at 0248 hours, so Sunday 2 gate arrival will be approximately 0958 hours, 148 minutes behind the timetable.

Morning update on the return flight on QPG from HKG… it formed the 128 to SYD - took off at 2137 - 2 hrs late and arrive at 0817 - 90 mins late
