Qantas Delays/Cancellations

On Wednesday 22 July, A388 VH-OQL arrived in SYD at 0738 hours, 43 minutes late as QF8 from distant DFW. It formed the 0935 hours SYD-JNB QF63 that wasn't airborne until 1124. Gate arrival should be about 1722 this afternoon South African time, 57 minutes late.

B738 VH-VZM is operating the morning SYD-AKL QF143. This 0855 hours scheduled offering was in the sky at 1013 hours, so gate arrival becomes forecast at 1451 hours, 46 minutes behind schedule.

Wednesday 22's QF3, the 0910 hours SYD-AKL and later the 1625 hours AKL-JFK has been cancelled. This is always a B789. The 1920 hours (22 July) JFK back down and across to AKL is also getting the boot, as is the 0645 hours AKL-SYD QF4 on Friday 24. (As previously advised, the Tuesday 21 QF6 B789 from CDG to SIN and this morning's consequent 0620 hours SIN-SYD were also cancelled).

Tuesday 21 July's QF4, the 1920 hours from JFK down and across to AKL did not take off until 2342 hours despite B789 VH-ZNG having been at New York since 1642. Thursday 23 arrival in AKL was 0816 hours, 201 minutes late.

Meanwhile, the Monday 20 QF4 with -ZNH departed JFK after an enforced non-timetabled overnight stay at 2203 hours on Tuesday 22, arriving AKL at 0700 hours, 1565 minutes late.

It is unusual for QF4 to run late: it's one of QFi's most punctual flights, especially when it's not winter in New York.

This created the unusual situation of two QF4s - ZNH is probably operating as QF4D - departing Auckland this morning for Sydney. -ZNH took off at 0929 hours with SYD arrival estimated as 1037 on Thursday 23. -ZNG was airborne at 1021 hours with gate arrival forecast for 1128, 188 minutes behind the timetable.

One of these B789s must be forming QF27, the scheduled Thursday 23 1220 hours SYD across to Chile's SCL as it's displaying a claimed departure time of 1305 hours this afternoon.

A388 VH-OQL that yesterday arrived late into JNB as QF63 is also delayed on the return QF64, with Thursday 23 July gate arrival in Sydney suggested as 1616 hours, 81 minutes late.

Hmm, sitting at Gold Coast and there are some odd flight numbers on the board today.
QF 52, QF120,

Thank you @Netty !

You are correct: QF52, the Wednesday 22 July SIN-BNE (A332 VH-EBK) is the 2030 hours that took off slightly late at 2107 hours. On Thursday 23, it has indeed diverted to OOL. The BOM forecast for Brisbane was/is 'morning fog' so that is the likely cause.

FR24 suggests the nominal timings for the very short OOL-BNE unplanned leg was for departure at 0825 AEST with gate arrival at 0930, which seems a long time for such a small distance. By 0947, the aircraft looked to still be on the ground at Coolangatta.

-EBK is supposedly still rostered on the 1105 hours BNE-SIN QF51, so if this remains, it'll be at least an hour late pushing back.

B738 VH-VZU has formed QF120, the 0605 hours AKL-BNE airborne on time at 0622 hours. It too diverted to OOL. It is displaying as a proposed 0945 hours from OOL with arrival at its BNE gate at 1015 hours.

The fog in Brisbane looks to have cleared if aircraft activity is any guide, but it has badly affected timekeeping on Thursday 23 July 2026.

QF1550, the scheduled 0850 hours BNE up to TSV (A223 VH-X4K) did not depart until about 1012 hours.

QF863D (if I have the flight number correct) from BNE to the OOM snowfields has Q400 VH-84P. It is the 0830 hours that was still in the middle stage of taxiing in Brisbane at 1016 AEST.

E190 VH-UYZ is operating QF1981, the 0800 hours BNE down to NTL not airborne until 1004 hours, with arrival estimated as 1113 hours, 108 minutes late.

QF509, the 0755 hours from BNE to SYD (B738 VH-VZA) took off at 0902 hours with SYD gate arrival 1024 hours, 49 minutes late.

The 0800 hours BNE-MEL QF613 was in the sky at 0907 with VH-VYH, so another 49 minute late gate arrival (at 1119 hours) is the suggestion.

QF510, the 0830 hours SYD-BNE pointed skywards at 0927 hours with A321 VH-OGE. Its gate arrival should be about 1039 hours, 34 late.

The early morning 0635 hours BNE up to TSV (QF1546) wasn't airborne until 0952 hours. A223 VH-X4B should arrive at about 1145 hours, three hours late.

Sister aircraft -X4G is on QF1562, the 0805 hours BNE-CNS in the sky at 0939 hours with gate arrival likely at around 1153, 78 late.

These delays should cascade through much of the day although if an aircraft has a longer layover during the lower demand period around 1200 'high noon', that should aid in schedule recovery.
