Qantas Delays/Cancellations

On Wednesday 18 March 2026, QF3, the 0945 hours SYD-AKL took off at 1044 with B789 VH-ZND, arriving at 1518 hours, 28 minutes late.

However as per @Flyerqf 's post above, there's another >24 hour delay with the second sector to JFK expected to depart AKL at 2000 hours local time on Thursday 19 (1800 AEDT). Note @JessicaTam 's post above that said the aircraft had engineering issues. A mooted three hour delay has became far more serious. The crew being out of hours may be another factor in the mix.

Attention passengers:
Flight delays are possible for departures from CNS on 20/3/2026.
Please listen to announcements and check indicator boards.

Also on Friday 20 March, QF19, the 1205 hours lunchtime SYD-MNL did not take off until 1357. A333 VH_QPH should arrive at gate at about 1912 hours, 102 minutes behind schedule.

QF73 last night was cancelled, perhaps due to a cracked window on the inbound VH-ZNB operating QF28 as reported by @simmomelb on this thread?

Aircraft is now positioning to MEL to operate QF21:

I think the delay to QF73 cancellation was due to ZND being out of rotation due to a maintenance issue. It ferried back from AKL last night after getting stranded there on Wednesday.

On Sunday 22 March 2026, QF10, the Saturday 21 LHR down to PER should arrive at 1333 hours, 63 late despite taking off yesterday punctually at 1212 hours. B789 VH-ZNF is the taskmaster.

Sister -ZNC is on the initial leg of QF3 from SYD to AKL that is arriving at 1602 hours, 72 minutes late.

A332 VH-EBM is operating QF112 from AKL across to PER. This scheduled 0830 hours flight was affected by previous flights QF66 (JNB to PER) and QF111 (PER to AKL) running late, so 'the 112' took off at 1120 with a 1325 hours gate arrival forecast, 115 minutes behind the timetable. The plane may then be travelling to JNB as QF65, with it expected to push back at 1450 hours, 80 late.

The BLR overnight to SYD, QF68, has A332 VH-EBN with gate arrival forecast for 1313 hours, 148 minutes late.

QF127 SYD HKG on A333 (QPH) took off 2 hrs late at 1325 instead of 1115 and ETA is 1905 instead of 1750

The aircraft will form the 128 back to SYD, ETD is now scheduled to be 2035 instead of 1925

Update on 128 - took off at 2129 and now ETA is 0928 instead of 0755

Morning update on QF30 HKG MEL on QPF - the flight departed HKG on time BUT diverted to CNS - airport is suggesting ETA into Melbourne is 0955 instead of 0750

Update: The flight took off CNS at 0606 - ETA 1015, and WILL impact QF29 today to HKG (have family on this flight today)

QF 29 left gate at 1217 in Melbourne instead of 1105 to HKG today - this is due to the earlier delay as written earlier on #17950 - diversion to CNS on QF 30

Also QF 69 to DEL from MEL scheduled at 0920 - that is delayed to ETD at 1400 from Melbourne on VH-EBO (A332) - aircraft arrived as QF 35 from SIN this morning at 0550

@Melburnian1

Also on Monday 23 March, QF35, the lunchtime 1205 hours MEL-SIN (A333 VH-QPG) was airborne at 1337 hours, so gate arrival should be 1758, 53 minutes late.

The identically scheduled QF19 but from SYD to MNL is arriving tonight at a predicted 1802 hours, 32 minutes tardy. Aircraft is VH-QPL.

Also QF 69 to DEL from MEL scheduled at 0920 - that is delayed to ETD at 1400 from Melbourne on VH-EBO (A332) - aircraft arrived as QF 35 from SIN this morning at 0550

QF69 was in the sky at 1444 hours with gate arrival likely at around 2126 hours, 281 minutes late.

B789 VH-ZNM on the second sector of QF3 from AKL to JFK should arrive at approximately 1644 hours, 79 late.

The 1405 hours SYD-DFW, QF7 has A388 VH-OQB. It was in the sky at 1515 so same day gate arrival should be 1357, 87 minutes behind schedule.

VH-OQL is operating the 1200 'high noon' MEL-LAX, QF93 that's forecast to arrive at 0911 hours, 46 minutes late.

The 1405 hours SYD-DFW (mostly an A380) has taken off late on a few recent operating days.

On Tuesday 17 March, it arrived DFW at 1355 hours, 85 minutes late.

On 19 March, arrival at gate was 1334, 64 behind.

21 March saw a 1317 hours gate arrival, 47 minutes tardy.

22 March was slightly better: 1312, 42 behind.

Monday 23 March was worse: 103 minutes late at 1413.

Tuesday 24 sees A388 VH-OQD having taken off at 1403 hours with same day gate arrival forecast for bang on 1300 hours, so "only" half an hour late.

On Wednesday 25 March, A388 VH-OQC on QF12 ex LAX arrived in SYD at 0723 hours two minutes early. However in operating the 0930 hours SYD to JNB (QF63), it did not take off until 1128 hours. Gate arrival should be about 1650 hours, 110 minutes late.

The 1205 hours SYD-MNL, QF19 with A332 VH-EBM was airborne at 1404 so gate arrival is likely at 1842 hours, 72 minutes behind schedule.

QF 93 MEL LAX on ZNB (B789) took off exactly 1 hr late at 1300 instead of 1200 high noon, now it’s 1/2 hr late at 0857 instead of 0825

More than a few QFd flights are badly late on the afternoon of Friday 27 March.

QF775, the mid afternoon 1510 hours MEL across to PER (B738 VH-VZI) was airborne at 1642 with gate arrival forecast for 1730 hours, 75 minutes tardy.

QF445 (1500 hours SYD down to MEL, VH-VXU) should arrive at about 1731, 56 late.

The ASP-SYD QF791 has VH-XZM with arrival at gate expected at around 1717, 72 late.

The 1420 hours MEL-BNE with VH-XZE took off at 1609 so its gate arrival is back to 1701 hours, 86 minutes tardy.

The 1430 hours ADL across to SYD, QF742, took off at 1517 so gate arrival becomes 1734, 39 late.

The SYD-BNE 1535 hours scheduled flight (A332 Vh-EBK) took off at 1650 with gate arrival likely at approximately 1701 hours, also 56 minutes behind schedule.

The 1545 hours SYD-OOL with another B738, VH-VYE (QF596) was in the sky at 1644 so gate arrival should be around the 1650 hours mark, 40 late.

QF648 (1120 hours PER across to SYD, VH-XZB) took off at 1231 hours with gate arrival forecast as 1924, 54 late.

The 1205 hours PER-MEL is similar with A332 VH-EBB airborne at 1320 so a 1930 hours arrival at gate is the expectation, 55 minutes tardy.

I don't know if these are all due to weather, SYD single runway ops as per @JessicaTam , insufficient air controllers, just 'normal' delays for a busy Friday arvo or something to do with slightly slower flying to save fuel given what may soon be diminishing supplies of Jet A1.

International flight QF33 from SYD across to PER (the 1225 hours, B789 VH-ZNC) took off at 1352 with a 63 minute late gate arrival at 1518 the expectation.

A388 VH-OQL is operating QF7, the 1305 hours SYD-DFW airborne at 1425 with same day arrival suggested as 1315, 45 behind.

Delays across the network today due to SYD currently running single runway ops.

My QF446 delayed from 1330 to 1540 “so far”.
Our flight was cancelled due to ATC running out of slots at SYD. Try again at 0930 tomorrow. *sigh*

There were a lot of MEL-SYD flights cancelled on the board before our was subsequently cancelled.

You missed the QF34 PER SYD originally from Paris on ZNH (B789) - took off at 1240 instead of 1135, ETA is 1917 instead of 1840

And yes Melbourne flights were cancelled due to storm winds according to 7News
