Qantas Delays/Cancellations

On Thursday 18 December, QF2 from LHR and SIN is arriving in SYD at about 0718 hours, 43 minutes late with A388 VH-OQL.

QF4 from AKL to JFK has B789 VH-ZNL with gate arrival likely half an hour tardy at 1455 hours.

In more on Thursday 18 December 2025, A332 VH-EBR operated QF37, the 1655 hours 'second division' MEL-SIN airborne at 1732, arriving at gate 23 minutes early at 2142.

However this aircraft did not depart SIN: it remained overnight.

QF36, the 1940 hours SIN-MEL is delayed overnight to an expected pushback at 1300 hours on Friday 19 December with suggested MEL gate arrival at about 2340 hours instead of the timetabled 0615 hours, 1040 minutes late. With a quick look I couldn't find any QFi or QFd A332-operated cancellations for today out of MEL, but one may later display.

As often occurs, other QFi aircraft arriving in SIN undertook the return flight to another Australian destination.

QF104 HNL- SYD 10:45 18th Dec departure delayed due to engineering issues. Now departing at 08:15 19th Dec. Our daughter and family are on this flight. The good news is Qantas has provided accommodation, food and travel costs.

On Friday 19 December 2025, QF7 (1405 hours SYD-DFW, A388 VH-OQB) is estimated to depart an hour late.

A332 VH-EBJ is operating QF35 (1205 hours lunchtime MEL up to SIN). It was in the final stages of taxiing as at 1345 AEDT. It had only arrived in MEL at 1026 hours as QF38 from SIN. Note above how QF36 was delayed overnight from SIN.

QF104 HNL- SYD 10:45 18th Dec departure delayed due to engineering issues. Now departing at 08:15 19th Dec. Our daughter and family are on this flight. The good news is Qantas has provided accommodation, food and travel costs.

This aircraft is A333 VH-QPI, (obviously) still in HNL.

At which hotel were they accommodated, @Bolthead ?

Updating from two posts above, QF7 has been further delayed with pushback claimed to be at the odd time of 1703 hours.

Sister aircraft A388 VH-OQK is rostered on QF11, the 1745 hours SYD-LAX forecast to push back at 1820 hours.

Today’s QF12 - depart LAX Thu 18/12 is currently delayed from 2125 Thursday to 1130 Friday. Arrival into Sydney now pushed back 16hrs 5mins to 2130 Saturday. Unsure if A388 VH-OQL originally scheduled to operate this service, and which arrived into LAX this morning at 1241 local as QF11 will operate the service or perhaps VH-OQC will stretch its wings

QF11 has just commenced push back at 1950.

QF11 on Friday 19 December with A388 VH-OQK took off from SYD at 2012 hours, so same day LAX arrival at gate should be approximately 1422 hours, 112 minutes late.

A worse delay was suffered by QF7, the early afternoon 1405 hours SYD-DFW (VH-OQB) with it airborne at 1823 hours for forecast same day gate arrival of 1603 hours, 213 minutes behind schedule.

B738 VH-XZB on the 1830 hours MEL-AKL (QF157) took off at 1935 on Friday early evening, so gate arrival on Saturday 20 will be 0044 hours, 39 late.

-BZV (also a B738) is on QF149 (1915 hours SYD-AKL) that's arriving at 0116 hours on Saturday 20, 51 late.

This 18 December QF12 is now anticipated to depart LAX at 2000 hours on Friday 19 local time, arriving SYD at about 0600 hours on Sunday 20.

This spare A380 is still out of action when it is most needed.

Thus far, QFi has been lucky, as the roster appears to only have required eight or occasionally nine A380s to operate in the last few days.

QF93/94 MEL-LAX and return, and QF7 SYD-DFW-SYD are often a B789 not an A380. QF63/64 SYD-JNB-SYD are not daily.

I lack visibility of January 2026 schedules but assume they're a bit more rigorous as many Australians go overseas, and return towards the end of the month.

On Saturday 20 December 2025, QF80 arrived MEL (ex NRT) at 0811 hours, 26 minutes late. A333 VH-QPG formed its own, with QF79, the 0925 hours back to NRT airborne at 1115 hours with gate arrival forecast for 1902 hours early tonight, 82 minutes late.

VH-QPJ (also an A333) came in from BLR to SYD at 1019 hours, 26 minutes early, but this hasn't helped QF59 to HND depart punctually, as this aircraft should be shortly pushing back at 1255 hours, 55 late.

The 1205 hours SYD-MNL was expected to depart at 1425, 140 minutes behind schedule. This was known yesterday., but this morning, the predicted delay has worsened, with a new nominal time of 1545 mid afternoon, 220 minutes tardy. The aircraft is VH-QPD that arrived in MEL at 1020 hours, just five minutes late as QF38 from SIN. It is to operate empty from MEL up to SYD, with Qf6006 timetabled to push back at 1130 but as at 1250 hours it hadn't done so, with a revised departure of 1300 displaying. It'll be surprising if 'the 19' gets away at 1545 hours. Things can go wrong with any transport organisation but as @tomlee1986 remarked, the ageing QFi A333 fleet doesn't have a good punctuality or reliability record.

Another A333, VH-QPC is on QF29, the 1105 hours MEL-HKG airborne at 1244 hours with gate arrival forecast for 1845 in the early evening, 70 late.

-QPL (ex Finnair AY) is yet another A333: its task is QF104 from HNL down to SYD, arriving tonight at a predicted 2013 hours, 113 minutes late. Tonight's QF103 (2010 hours SYD-HNL) is displaying as an A332 (not an A333) with pushback suggested as an hour late.

On Saturday 20 December 2025, ...

The late-running QPL will be turning around in SYD to operate the QF103 tonight as 104 arrives into gate 8, which is the same gate 103 is leaving from, which is why it's leaving an hour late.

QF6006 (A333 VH-QPD) took off from MEL a few minutes ago at 1340 with arrival at its SYD gate estimated as 1501 hours, so no way will the delayed QF19 be departing for MNL at 1545. 1645 or later is likely.

On Saturday 20 December 2025, the delayed QF19 from SYD to MNL (A333 VH-QPD) took off at 1632 hours. Gate arrival should be about 2129 hours, 239 minutes late. The 1920 hours MNL to SYD (QF20) is optimistically forecast to depart at 2245.

The SYD-HND QF59 with A333 VH-QPJ should arrive 44 late at 2044 mid evening.

-QPC is operating QF29 from MEL to HKG that ought be at its gate at about 1838 hours, 63 behind.

The 1205 hours MEL-SIN QF35 was in the sky at 1354 with gate arrival at 1827 hours, 82 late as the forecast.
