Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Looks like VH-ZNG departed AKL for JFK at around 23:00 local time.

Yes, on Thursday 3 August 2023, it departed AKL at 2250, taking off at 2303 with arrival in JFK suggested for Thursday night as 2223 hours, 1773 minutes late.

It may then fly empty from JFK across to LAX as the B789-operated flight QF94 due out of LAX at 2220 hours on Thursday 3 August has been delayed overnight to an expected Friday 4 pushback at 0930 hours.

B789 VH-ZNH looks to still be in AKL, out of service.

A388 VH-OQD arrived in SYD on Friday 4 at 0818 hours, 33 minutes tardy as QF12 from LAX.

Today's QF81 from SYD to SIN is copping a 5-hour delay, being re-scheduled to depart at 5pm today (from 12.10pm), and arriving at 11.20pm this evening. Not sure what's going on as OQL is in SYD at the moment.

Although this is not reflected yet, this will most certainly have a flow-on effect on the QF82 from SIN to SYD, which will probably leave closer to 1.30am tomorrow morning, with an arrival into SYD just after 11am tomorrow.

FR24 and Qantas' own flight status page claim it won't depart (with an A380) until 1930 hours tonight, which would be 450 minutes late. The aircraft is allegedly to be A388 VH-OQL that operated empty ('ferry') flight QF6014 from LAX to SYD, arriving yesterday (Thursday 3) at 0720 hours early in the morning.

This would mean an even worse departure time for tonight's QF82 of around 0300-0400 hours. Unpleasant for passengers and crews alike.

ZNH suffered a lightning strike - It is been ferried to MEL this evening.

As for the QF28, that was a medical diversion and unfortunately crew ran out of hours.

B789 VH-ZNG as the replacement for the QF3 arrived JFK at 2239 hours, 1789 minutes late on Thursday 3 August.

It then operated empty from JFK to LAX as QF6002, taking off at the unseemly hour of 0300 and arriving at gate at 0508 hours on Friday 4. It then became airborne at 1014 hours as QF94 and should be in MEL late afternoon on Saturday 5 at 1741 hours, 656 minutes behind schedule.

A388 VH-OQL on Friday 4's QF81 took off from SYD at 2005 hours, arriving SIN on Saturday 5 at 0147 hours, 437 late. It turned around to operate 'the 82' (the scheduled Friday night 2030 hours) airborne at 0412 this morning, so later today, gate arrival looks to be 1329 hours, a very similar 439 minutes behind the timetable.

QF27 yesterday was B789 VH-ZNF that arrived SCL at 1135, half an hour late.

Because B789 VH-ZNG on QF94 is 656 minutes late (arriving at gate in MEL on Saturday 5 August at 1741 hours), QF9 (normally the 1505 hours mid afternoon MEL-PER-LHR) is not expected to push back until 1925 hours and subsequently PER at 2305 local time, the latter being 260 minutes late. It may pick up some time on the second sector, but is likely to still be at least 220 minutes late arriving at its LHR gate tomorrow morning UK time as it may overstay a little in Perth tonight.

QF103 diverted to BNE due to a mechanical issue. The aircraft for QF25 was this aircraft which is now 24 hrs late.

That was A333 VH-QPA that on Friday 4 took off at 2146 hours from SYD (compared to its timetabled departure of 2040 hours mid evening). It's still in BNE with expected departure time tonight of 2000 hours.

QF94 (B789 VH-ZNG) has just arrived in MEL at 1749 hours as the 664 minute late QF94 from LAX, so the wait continues for QF9 users bound for Perth and London Heathrow.

The delayed '9' on Saturday 5 August was in the sky from MEL at 1952: suggested PER gate arrival becomes 2142, 267 minutes behind the timetable. Anything's possible, but QFi may struggle to achieve the proposed 2305 hours PER departure.

Given as noted above, the flight may pick up a bit of the deficit en route to London, hopefully the Sunday 6 August QF10 (scheduled 1155 hours ex LHR) won't be anything more than an insignificant few minutes tardy in its pushing back.

On Sunday 6 August, QF63 from SYD across to JNB is delayed in departure form 1000 hours to a projected 1200 'high noon'.

A332 VH-EBP on the redeye QF80 (HND down to MEL) arrived this morning at 1007 hours, 92 late. It had been in Japan all day since arriving 46 late at 0611 hours as QF25 ex SYD, so not sure why the delay.

The Saturday QF9 managed to take off from PER at 2322 so Sunday arrival in LHR (local time) should be about 0839 hours, 214 minutes late. The good news is (in theory) this should mean a punctual departure for the 1155 hours QF10 back down to PER and then on to Melbourne.

B789 VH-ZNJ on Saturday's QF10 took off from LHR at 1250 hours so a 51 minute late arrival in PER at 1231 today is the expectation. This will mean a delay into MEL for the second sector, and possibly tardiness for the QF93 to LAX tonight ex Melbourne.

QF198 from APW down to BNE, a fairly recently introduced flight, had B738 VH-VZH, and become airborne at 0553 versus a timetabled yukky departure time of 0505 hours: arrival at gate in sunny Queensland was at 0831 hours, 46 minutes tardy.

A388 VH-OQI on this morning's SYD-arriving QF2 ex LHR and latterly SIN arrived at 0606, 56 behind. This aircraft is forming the 1020 hours to LAX (QF11) that's expected to depart an hour late. Arrival though may still be punctual as the westerlies should assist.

'The 104' from HNL down to SYD (A333 VH-QPA) should arrive at its allocated gate tonight at about 2008, 88 minutes past the timetable.

Last night's QF25 (the 2020 hours) was apparently delayed overnight and should depart today at 1300 hours for its SYD-HND excursion, some 1020 minutes late. There are very limited slots available at HND (and rival NRT) for aircraft that are significantly delayed, even if crew rest hours are not a consideration ex SYD (i.e. it may be a different crew to those rostered last night).

B738 VH-XZF is on the Sunday 6 August morning (0850 hours) QF143 (SYD up to AKL) airborne at 0943 for a suggested gate arrival of 1427, 32 behind. Of its previous seven trips, this northeast bound offering has been more than an hour late arriving in Auckland three times: not good. It's usually formed by an early morning arrival from NZ but tends to lose time on the ground in Sydney.

This is actually the Friday departure which was delayed due to a diversion on the 103.

Saturday’s departure of 104 is delayed overnight due to crewing.

In more on Sunday 6, QF151 (B738 VH-XZG, 0920 hours MEL-AKL in the sky at 1013) should arrive at 1527 hours mid afternoon, 32 behind schedule.

I was overly optimistic suggesting today's QF11 might arrive in LAX on time, as on Sunday 6, A388 VH-OQI wasn't airborne until 1217, so same day gate arrival should be at about 0822 hours, 77 late.

B789 VH-ZNC ended up taking off from SYD a bit earlier than forecast, at 1152 hours for this 1000 timetabled lengthy flight. JNB arrival should be roughly 1758 hours, 108 minute sbehind the timetable, so QF64 (the redeye) will be tardy arriving in SYD tomorrow afternoon.

A333 VH-QPH took off at 1346 with HND arrival at gate suggested as 2214 hours tonight, 1009 minutes late.

On Monday 7 August 2023, QF82 (A388 VH-OQH, the 2045 hours mid evening redeye on Sunday 6 from SIN to SYD airborne at 2324 hours) arrived at 0831, 126 minutes late.

Because QF23 was delayed on Sunday, QF24 from BKK to SYD pulled in to its gate this morning at 0711 hours, 46 late with A333 VH-QPC.

ZNH suffered a lightning strike - It is been ferried to MEL this evening.
Does anyone know when this happened (air or on the ground)? Asking for Simon from avherald as he can't write a report without any credible background - might need to shoot an email to QANTAS?
