Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Thursday night's QF93 (2110 ex MEL for LAX) has been further delayed and is estimated to depart 12 hours late at 0910 hours on Friday, arriving LAX at 0630 on Friday morning instead of 1830 during Thursday's early evening. At least it's no longer an '0430 hours' pushback as was intended above.

Similarly, the weekly QF96 (2355 hours ex LAX on Thursday 11 August) is likely to push back at 0930 hours on Friday 12, arriving MEL at 1800 on Saturday early evening instead of the usual morning arrival at 0825 hours, so 575 minutes late.
Both these flights are now shown on Qantas Flight status as 'Cancelled'

There's also a further cancellation of QF17, the Friday 12 August once a week extra at 2125 hours from SYD up to LAX.

These beg the question: assuming insufficient spare seats on other QFi flights, how do the patrons travel to LAX? On DL or UA?

One I missed, on Wednesday 10th, Qantas B789 VH-ZNE operated the domestic service QF431 SYD-MEL with a 54 minute departure delay, time slightly made up to land in Melbourne 37 minutes late. By comparison, regular B738 operations on this flight have had good time keeping.

Text message received today @ 3:30pm re cancellation of QF7 tomorrow - todays flight was diverted to AUS because of storms. Waiting for QF to offer alternative option/s.

Thursday 11 August has also seen A388 VH-OQK on QF1 (1555 hours afternoon SYD-SIN-LHR) take off at 1657 hours with SIN estimated at gate arrival of 2248, 33 late.

As I write at 1935 AEST it's 0435 hours on Thursday 11 August in Austin, Texas where B789 VH-ZNB is stabled following its diversion yesterday.

QFi suggests that following the crew's important, specified rest period, the plane will depart AUS at 1300 today local time, arriving DFW at 1350 hours.

Did passengers alight in Austin and receive their luggage after processing by US immigration?

The Wednesday 11 QF8, the 2250 hours is predicted to depart DFW at 2220 on Thursday night with arrival at around 0605 hours on Saturday 13, 1410 minutes late.

Friday 12 August has QF12 from LAX to SYD (A388 VH-OQD) arriving at a suggested 0731 hours, 36 minutes behind schedule.

The overnight delayed QF10 from LHR (B789 VH-ZNC) departed at 1438 hours, becoming airborne at 1505, on Thursday 11, 1603 minutes late. Estimated time in PER is from 1345 today to 1515. It is officially designated as 'QF7010'.

The Thursday QF10 (VH-ZND), by contrast, is ahead, and only about 20 minutes late. If there were spare seats on the latter, would any super delayed passengers have been transferred to ZND?

B789 VH-ZNE is operating empty ('ferry') flight QF6150 that was airborne from MEL at 0713 on Friday morning. It's bound for SYD, but yesterday was idle, as it arrived in MEL on Wednesday 10 at 0613 hours as QF 8, the long haul from distant DFW in Texas. Unfortunate to have had this aircraft idle when other B789s are diabolically late, and flights cancelled as a result.

On which flights is QFi placing you, and on what day(s)? One hopes you're not delayed more than a few hours.

A388 VH-OQJ on QF2, the 2105 hours mid evening Thursday 11 August ex LHR took off at 2258, so SIN Friday arrival should be at about 1855 tonight, 90 minutes tardy.

Colleague VH-OQK on QF1 was in the sky at 0116 on 12 August from SIN so LHR arrival at a claimed 0711 hours will be 36 late.

I think this is related to the above : QF406 MEL-SYD was due to be operated by a 789, however was cancelled. From this it appears that VH-ZNE was programmed to Melbourne for some sort of maintenance, which ran over time, hence the positioning as QF6150 instead. (As already noted above [#13363], it arrived in MEL operating QF431).

VH-ZNE has now taken QF63 to Johannesburg, leaving 49 minutes late.

Timekeeping on QFd (and VAd) seems somewhat improved in the last two or three days, but some flights continue to run late, or are heavily delayed.

QF2121 (Q300 VH-TQK), the 0825 hours SYD - GFF on Friday 12 August took off at 1216 and is arriving at 1336 hours, 221 minutes late.

B738 VH-VYK on QF683, the 1250 hours MEL across to ADL was still taxiing at 1335, so is likely to be more than half an hour late arriving.

QF1409 (Q300 VH-TQL), the 1210 hours early lunchtime SYD down to BXG in Victoria had only just left its apron place at 1341 hours, so is more than an hour late.

QF845 (1115 hours DRW down to SYD, B738 VH-XZL) was in the sky at 1201 hours so gate arrival is predicted for 1629, 34 late.

Internationally, A333 VH-QPI on the 0950 hours SYD - BKK QF23 was airborne at 1055 so at gate arrival looks to be approximately 1723, 43 minutes behind the schedule.

A332 VH-EBC on the 1300 hours lunchtime QF309 from SYD to AKL was in the sky at 1338, so arrival will be around the 1841 hours mark, 36 late.

On Friday 12 August, A388 VH-OQB arrived SIN on QF1 uneventfully at 2223 hours, eight minutes late. However it then didn't take off for LHR until 0533 hours this morning, so arrival at gate should be 1140, 305 minutes late.

Yesterday (Friday 11) QF2 arrived SYD at 0651 hours, 101 late.

The next QF2, VH-OQJ, arrived SYD at 0708 this morning, 118 minutes tardy.

QF10 (B789 VH-ZND) arrived MEL on Friday evening at 1955, 75 minutes late.

While untrue that every QF1/QF2 is half an hour or more late arriving at destination, timekeeping is poorer than many major competitors such as SQ, QR, EK and so on. If they can run largely punctually despite none having a major base in Australia, why can't QFi on its flagship route to/from London?

The 11 August QF94 (VH-ZNH) took off at 2103 hours from LAX, only about 10 minutes late but on Saturday 13 August 2022, it diverted to BNE, from where it was airborne at 0625, arriving MEL at 0820 hours, 140 minutes late. Was this a famous QuickStatus 'splash and dash' as he amusingly calls refuelling?

Continuing with Saturday 13 August, QF101 (B738 VH-XZF, the 0835 hours SYD - NAN) was airborne at 1003 hours, so estimated at gate arrival is 1544, 69 minutes tardy. It had been formed by QF140 that arrived SYD (ex AKL) at 0744, only four minutes late.

Yesterday's flight arrived at 1535, 65 down, so similar (VH-XZC).

QF11 is showing as departing at 1200 'high noon' instead of 1015 hours but noon has passed.

The interesting bit of info for this flight was that it was abeam of NTL prior to diverting to BNE

Diversion time was 1820 UTC = 0420am SYD when it was abeam of NTL. Likely would still have been curfew when QF94 arrived over SYD. However as it is operated by the 787-9 it may be eligible for landing during the shoulder period of 0500-0600

There was no fog and otherwise weather was benign in SYD/MEL

So not sure why it had a diversion to BNE instead of SYD

It was only on the ground arriving at UTC1934 and departing at UTC2013. About 39minutes. Hardly enough time for a crew change or an medivac

@ChrisGibbs also discussed it here

Albeit a positoning flight to bring back Rugby fans from Buenos Aires, Qantas has QF6001 SYD-EZE [B789 VH-ZNG] running 80 minutes late at departure (presumably from the gate), while Flightaware has it running 95 minutes late (presumably from take off). Flightradar24 has a depart within a minute of Flightaware, but hasn't caught up on the destination yet.

Publicity for the flights suggest this flight should have left yesterday in order to arrive at EZE at 10:30 am on Friday 12th. Qantas Conducts 3 Special Flights To Buenos Aires Amid Rugby Championship

In more on Saturday 13 August, QF10 arrived MEL at 1919 hours: 39 late with B789 VH-ZNF.

QF64 ex JNB arrived SYD at 1400 hours, 50 minutes behind schedule with B789 VH-ZNE.

Sunday 14 August sees QF143, the so often unpunctual 0930 hours SYD - AKL (A332 VH-EBQ) preparing for takeoff shortly after 1054 hours, so it'll be at least 50 minutes late arriving.

QF23 (0950 hours SYD - BKK) was to be an hour late departing but that has extended, as it isn't visible on FR24 at 1054.

Similarly, QF11 (A388 VH-OQK) had not departed by that time.

VH-ZNI (B789) on QF10 from LHR down to PER is arriving on Sunday 14 at 1233 hours, 53 minutes behind.

UPDATE: Although QF11 (A388 VH-OQK) did not become airborne from SYD until 1112 hours, at this early stage gate arrval is predicted as 1120, only 20 minutes tardy. Yesterday's was far worse (VH-OQH), arriving at 0855 hours, 115 minutes behind the timetable.

'The 23' should arrive BKK at 1749, 69 late, ensuring that the 1810 hours back down overnight to SYD (QF20) will be behind schedule. This is despite the aircraft having overnighted in SYD on Saturday night.

QF19 operated by A333 VH-QPJ on Saturday 13 took off from SYD 1932, 42 behind, arriving MNL at 1317 hours.

Its return redeye (QF20) was not in the sky until 2232 so on Sunday 14, SYD arrival became 0753, 83 behind. The aircraft has formed QF145 (1115 hours SYD up to AKL) that had not taken off by 1233 hours.
