Qantas Delays/Cancellations

With today's QF1 (789 ZNE) currently only running 51 minutes late, that 789 will probably operate the return QF10, while the delayed QF9 can bring back QF2. QF9 should have been operated by 789 ZNB - which was only 10 minutes late with QF94 from LAX.

As previous pages suggest, QFi hasn't always done this 'London swap' when QF9 has been badly delayed. Sometimes 'the 9' has formed QF10.

The first day of the Australian winter finds QF12 (A388 VH-OQD) arriving from LAX inSYD at 0730 hours, 35 late. QF11 returning to LAX is expected to depart 45 minutes late at 1100.

QF161 (the 0940 hours SYD - WLG) is predicted to depart at 1030 hours.

B738 VH-XZO on QF151 (0710 hours MEL - AKL) was up up and away at 0849, so expected arrival becomes 1406 hours, 81 minutes late. Timekeeping on QFi's TransTasman flights is very poor. NZ is better, but also not stunningly punctual.

For the second consecutive time in recent days (previous occasion was 29 May) QF41 (1350 hours afternoon flight from SYD up to CGK) is badly delayed with pushback predicted at 1900 early this evening. This will mean an arrival in Jakarta at close to midnight.
I have booked a ticket for QF41 next week Wednesday 8 June. @Melburnian1: do we know what caused the recent delays on 29 May and today (1 June)?

Still on Wednesday 1 June 2022, QF103, the 1925 hours to HNL from SYD has had its expected departure from the gate put back further to 2200 hours.

I am only speculating so take it as you will, but on 29 May the aircraft A333 VH-QPD was on a Darwin to Sydney flight arriving at 1800 hours, way beyond the 1350 scheduled QF41 departure, so it may have been that another A333 failed somewhere.

Remember that if flights are separated by a couple of days or more, punctuality may again be restored as there may not be a connection with the previous late running.

In tonight's case (1 May), QF41 has been formed by A333 VH-QPB that has sat in the mainland harbour city for 39 hours since arriving as QF82 on Tuesday 31 May at 0639, 11 minutes ahead of schedule.

Perhaps no suitable crew available until tonight? QF41 pushed back at about 2208 hours, so is even later than QFi forecast.

UPDATE: QF41 was airborne at 2219 hours, with expected CGK arrival becoming (on Thursday 2) 0155 hours, 430 minutes late. QF42 returning (the redeye) may be able to depart at about 0315 if all goes well.

QF103 (1925 hours SYD - HNL, also rostered to be an A333) had not departed by 2222 and couldn't even be seen on FR24. This guarantees QF104 back to SYD (ex HNL today given the huge time difference) will be significantly delayed.

SYD continues to be on restricted runway operations so punctuality of many flights (not just QFi's or QFd's) is not optimal. QF497, the 2100 hours SYD - MEL had not taken off by 2230.

In more on Wednesday 1 June, QF103 (1925 hours SYD up to HNL with A333 VH-QPD) eventually took off at 2244 hours, arriving same day at 1153 hours, 163 minutes late. This was due to the plane arriving ex AKL as QF146 in SYD at 1957 hours, 127 minutes tardy.

The delayed QF9 (1515 hours MEL - PER - LHR) that was supposed to depart at 0200 on Thursday 2 June did so at 0254 and was very promptly airborne at 0304. The PER stop for B789 VH-ZNB was from 0444 with estimated departure becoming 0615 hours, in a few minutes from when I'm writing. Mooted LHR arrival is same day at 1630, 685 minutes late.

It appears that the early QF1 (due into LHR at 0617 hours, 18 ahead) is today forming 'the 10' ex London Heathrow as the latter isn't showing as delayed.

Wednesday 1 June's QF10 (VH_ZNG), the 1155 hours ex LHR took off exactly an hour later so today suggested PER at gate arrival is 1218 hours, 38 minutes tardy.

Tuesday 31 May's QF2 (VH-ZNH, 2105 hours LHR - DRW) was in the sky at 2153, arriving on Thursday 55 minutes late at 2325. The aircraft then took off for SYD at 0107, arriving only 10 late at 0515 this morning.

A333 VH-QPE on yesterday's SYD - BKK QF23 arrived at 1807 hours, 87 minutes behind schedule, with the return redeye taking off at 2021. Arrival has just occurred at the SYD gate at 0805 hours, 95 late.

B789 VH-ZNF on QF94, the 2130 hours Tuesday 31 May LAX - MEL did not take off until 0058 hours early on Wednesday 1 June so Thursday at gate arrival is predicted for 0903 hours, 183 minutes late.

Yesterday's QF121 (0930 hours SYD - ZQN) did end up being massively delayed (I had posed a question about that) to projected departure today, 2 June, at 1030 hours.

QF7, the Thursday 2 June 1540 hours SYD up to DFW is expected to push back 50 minutes late.

The badly delayed QF41 (A333 VH-QPB) on 1 June arrived CGK at 0234 hours, 464 minutes late. The return QF42 took off at 0421, so suggested SYD arrival this afternoon is 1355 hours, 470 minutes behind schedule.

The delay to QF9 has increased a little, as it didn't take off from PER this morning until 0650 hours, resulting in a further amended arrival time in LHR of 1707 this afternoon UK time, 722 minutes behind schedule.

However provided QFi can stick to the game plan and use this aircraft on tonight's UK departure of QF2 rather than the usual working of QF10, both British pushbacks should in theory be on or close to time. As 789nerd commented, this handy, delay-minimising switch won't be possible in c.three weeks when QF1/QF2 commence operating via SIN with an A388 not a B789.

QF151, the 2 June 0710 hours early morning MEL - AKL (B738 VH-XZO for the second consecutive day) departed at 1106 hours, so arrival should be approximately 1645 in the late afternoon, 240 minutes tardy.

B738 VH-VZI is on today's QF146 (0930 hours SYD - AKL) that was up up and away at 1052, so gate arrival at 1527 mid afternoon, 52 late is the suggestion.

QF121 (also an 0930 hours but to ZQN) on 2 June was airborne at 1045 with VH-XZC, so arrival looks like 1519, 49 late.

Yesterday's QF121 (delayed more than 24 hours) had not taken off by 1145 hours from SYD.

B738 VH-VZY on QF161 (0940 hours SYD - WLG) was up up and away at 1147 so an 80 minute late arrival in the windy city is expected at 1610 hours. Weather in Auckland and Wellington is said to be unattractive with heavy rain predicted and gusty winds.

The SYD to SIN 1110 hours QF81 was earlier this morning displaying as punctual but this has altered to expected departure at 1300 hours (lunchtime). QF82 may just avoid being late tonight as 190 minutes is the timetabled turnaround time, so if the flight picked up a bit northbound and arrived say only 85 minutes late, there'd be sufficient time.

The overnighter from JNB, QF64 (B789 VH-ZNC) was airborne last night at 1921 so arrival today in SYD is estimated as 1512 hours, 107 minutes behind schedule.

QF81 is usually punctual or early on its SYD - SIN excursion but two days ago with A333 VH-QPF, it arrived 73 minutes late at 1903 hours.

This aircraft subsequently went to MNL and arrived back in SYD at 0655, 25 late on Thursday 2 June. The 1110 hours SYD - SIN was then to be put back to 1300 but became a suggested '1345 hours'. QPF ended up becoming airborne at 1359 so predicted at gate arrival becomes 1944, 114 minutes late. If everything goes swimmingly, QF82 (the 2100 hours SIN back down as a redeye to SYD) ought not be very late, if at all. A longer timetabled turnaround assists.

B789 VH-ZNF is on 2 June's QF9, the 1515 hours mid afternoon MEL - PER that took off at 1607 with arrival likely at 1747, 32 minutes behind schedule. It may well still be punctual arriving at the LHR gate.

VH-ZNG on opposite number QF10 was airborne from PER at 1416 so a 41 minute late arrival in MEL at 1921 hours in the early evening is the forecast.

A333 VH-QPD on the delayed QF104 from HNL down to SYD should pull in at its gate at 2017 hours tonight, 172 minutes tardy.

B789 VH-ZNC on the 101 minute late arrival in SYD (1506 hours) of the ex-JNB QF64 is forming the 1540 hours QF7 nonstop to DFW, so it was impossible for the latter to depart in a timely fashion. I don't know if this is the normal rotation but if so, one could suggest the aircraft are being worked too hard with such minimal time in SYD - if on time, it'd be 1325 to 1540, only 135 minutes. There's no slack if even a few small items of maintenance are required.

UPDATE: QF7 was in the sky at 1733, so DFW same day arrival should be 1722 hours, 82 minutes late, but in plenty of time to punctually form the late evening 2250 hours QF8 back down to SYD.

I am booked on QF23 today 3 June (SYD to BKK) and received a text from QF last night (at 940pm) that the flight is delayed from original departure time of 940am to 1130am. Nice to see this come through the evening before so I didn't set the alarm for 530am! I had a look on FR24 and it isn't the incoming QF24 making todays QF23 late as there was no QF24 yesterday so clearly the incoming aircraft is on another route.

bjm76, gate numbers can change at short notice, but looking at the arrivals, given you're displaying as departing from gate 30 at SYD, the inbound aircraft forming 'yours' may be A333 VH-QPF that arrived this morning at 0648, two minutes early as QF82 from SIN.

Some possible delay causes include crew affected with COVID-19 and hence a replacement has to be found, insufficient baggage handlers, slow check-in (hopefully not a problem as often given so many nations are ending restrictive entry requirements) or slow movement of passengers through security to airside. That's not exhaustive. Enjoy your journey!

UPDATE: I was incorrect re QPF as it has taken off as QF143 to AKL.

QF101, the Friday 3 June 2022 0835 hours SYD - NAN (B738 VH-XZJ) took off at 0958 so arrival expected at 1538 will be 63 minutes behind time. The plane had come in as QF140 from AKL, arriving SYD 12 minutes late at 0752.

A333 VH-QPF on QF143 (0930 hours SYD - AKL) took off at 1039. Predicted gate arrival is 1512 hours, 37 minutes late, a minor delay for thus poorly performing (as far as punctuality goes) service.

QF121 (B738 VH-XZG) is the 0930 hours SYD - ZQN, airborne at 1044 hours.

The long flight from SYD up to DFW, QF7 is delayed from 1540 this afternoon to an expected 1930 hours. This shouldn't delay today's QF8 unless the departure time from SYD significantly blows out further.

On Friday 3 June, 'the 23' was operated by A333 VH-QPH that had last been on 'ferry' (empty) flight QF6141 from MEL on Monday 30 May, so it could have been undergoing maintenance. It took off from SYD (the 23) at 1240 hours so expected arrival is 1916 hours, 156 minutes late and more than an hour after the 1810 hours rdeye back to SYD should be pushing back in Bangkok.

A388 VH-OQD on QF11, the 1015 hours SYD - LAX was in the sky at 1141 with arrival at gate likely same day at 0739 hours, 39 minutes behind schedule.

QF19 (1230 hours lunchtime) has VH-QPD, taking off at 1321 so at gate arrival should be no earlier than 1925, 35 minutes down. If this holds true, QF20 (the 2035 hours) won't be badly delayed and has a chance of arriving at the SYD gate at or close to time on Saturday morning.

Friday 3 June's arriving QF9 (ex PER 2 June) in LHR should be at its gate at 0559 hours, 54 minutes late.

B789 VH-ZNA on the Thursday 2 June QF75 from SYD to YVR arrived at 1809, 39 minutes tardy.

QF41, the Friday 3 1350 SYD - CGK had not departed by 1428 hours, but took off at 1445 and is expected to be less than half an hour late arriving at gate.

B789 VH-ZNE on Friday 3 June arrived early to PER at 1129, 11 minutes ahead but the 'domestic sector' to MEL took off at 1423 hours so at gate arrival looks to be about 1928 hours, 48 minutes behind the schedule.

Also on Friday 3 June, the delayed QF7 (1540 hours mid afternoon SYD - DFW) finally took off at 2011 with B789 VH-ZND that had sat in SYD all day since arriving from DFW as QF8 at 0710 hours, 35 late. Arrival in DFW on 3 June should be at 1939 hours, 219 minutes late. Hopefully the 2250 hours QF8 ex DFW on 3 June will be punctual.

QF24 from BKK (A333 VH-QPH) took off at 2118 on Friday 3 June, so on Saturday 4 it arrived SYD at 0900, 150 minutes late.

On Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June, respectively, the SYD to AKL QF143 (A333 VH-QPD yesterday and B738 VH-XZK today) arrived at 1603 and 1543 (respectively 88 and 68 minutes tardy).

Also on the Saturday, VH-XZH on QF161 (also a morning 0940 hours SYD - windy Wellington) was at its gate at 1554, 64 behind its schedule.

'The 81' from SYD to SIN is still only running five days a week. On Sunday 5, A333 VH-QPD on this 1110 hours flight was airborne at 1214 so expected at gate arrival becomes 1832, 42 minutes past the timetabled.

The 1545 hours SYD - DRW - LHR QF1 is predicted to push back from SYD half an hour late.

QF139 (1925 hours early evening SYD - CHC) should be 40 late in doing the same.

The 1440 hours weekly QF95 from MEL to LAX has been formed by empty ('ferry') flight QF6007 (B789 VH-ZND) that arrived at 1150 hours after earlier coming in from DFW to SYD as QF8, at the gate at 0752 hours this morning, 77 minutes behind as the 3 June 2022 QF7 from SYD to DFW had arrived 242 minutes late at 2002.

QF63 was delayed yesterday (Saturday 4), arriving JNB with B789 VH-ZNC at 1653 hours, 78 minutes late, so QF64 (the 1735 hours from JNB) did not become airborne until 1909 and so on Sunday 5 has not long arrived in SYD 90 minutes late at 1450 hours mid afternoon.
