On Thursday 14 November, QF93, the 1040 hours MEL - LAX long flight is delayed until 1225, but the delay has extended beyond this. Same day arrival has become 0745 hours, 95 late. This is due to A388 VH-OQK arriving in SYD on QF8 this morning (ex DFW) at 0616, 11 late and then taking off for MEL as empty ('ferry') flight QF6004 at 0832 for an 0947 hours arrival in the southern capital, due to yesterday's QF35/36 being a smaller A330 aircraft.

(moa999, sorry, I didn't see your ppst above prior to writing this, but my 'out' is that I provided extra information.)

Earlier, A388 VH-OQF arrived in SYD as QF12 (ex LAX) at 0919 hours, 44 late, somewhat later than QF estimated last night. This led to a delay for QF11 this morning, being off blocks 39 behind at 1149 hours, but it's suggested that LAX arrival will only be 14 minuets late as most time on a gate-to-gate basis will be regained.

Just as QF2 was into SYD this morning, QF1, the 1700 hours afternoon SYD - SIN - LHR is cancelled today.

Wednesday 13's redeye overnight from SYD to HND, QF25, did not arrive until 0611 hours, 71 late this morning.

UPDATE: QF93 departed MEL at 1231 with LAX arrival forecast as 0745,95 late. If 'the 11' is held for its JFK connection, it'll be delayed by about half an hour.

qf7 was 2:59 late leaving sydney (VH-OQA)...

DFW arrival on Thursday 14 November is predicted as 1550 hours, 175 minutes late.

QF12 (LAX - SYD) should arrive half an hour behind schedule at 0905 hours on Friday morning.

Earlier it was displaying as punctual, but the Thursday 14 November QF19 departed SYD 121 minutes tardy at 1426, and is suggested as arriving at its MNL gate at 1923 hours, 113 late. In turn, QF20, the redeye, is predicted to push back 130 late at 2110, with Friday 15 SYD arrival 0835, 135 minutes behind the timetable. VH-EBR is the A332 with no obvious delay reason as it arrived in SYD only 15 late on Thursday morning at 0635 hours as QF44 ex DPS.

QF30, the 1905 hours HKG - MEL redeye is delayed to an expected 2000 pushback, meaning Friday arrival at around 0745, only 10 late. I don't normally include arrivals that are predicted as less than half an hour late but this is a large difference between the delay on pushback versus forecast arrival.

UPDATE: QF30 is further delayed with pushback estimated at 2100 hours (midnight AEDT.) This means MEL arrival on Friday 15 at about 0845, 70 late which even with teh gain in time gate-to-gate is quite late. MEL gate numbers have yet to be publicised for the morning so it's not clear if QF29, QF79 or some other flight will be tardy as a result.

FURTHER UPDATE: QF20 is now expected to depart MNL at 2140 hours (0040 Friday AEDT). SYD arrival should be 0905 hours, 165 late.

QF30 is forecast to depart HKG at 2230 for arrival in MEL at 1015 hours, 160 late.

QF30 on Thursday 14 November ended up being cancelled. The aircraft was B789 VH-ZNH that had arrived as QF127 from SYD, and which remains in HKG.

As a result, QF29, the 0940 hours MEL - HKG on Friday 15 November is cancelled.

QF30 from HKG to MEL and QF128 to SYD are showing as operating tonight, so had a crew member gone off sick rather than the aircraft becoming defective?

QF56 departed LAX 24 late on Wednesday 13 at 2129 hours, arriving BNE at 0537 on Friday 15, 37 late. VH-ZND was the B789.

B789 VH-ZNJ on the special QF7879 (strictly not a 'commercial flight') is the 0600 hours LHR to SYD "express" (nonstop) that took off on Thursday 14 November at 0609. SYD arrival is expected at about 1232 hours on Friday 15, 47 minutes late. On 12 November, empty ("ferry") flight QF6027 had arrived in LHR at 1852 hours, 32 minutes late.

UPDATE: It arrived SYD at 1252 hours, 67 late.

On Friday 15 November 2019, QF27 (1245 hours lunchtime SYD - SCL B744) departed at 1327. Same day arrival should be at 1145, 35 minutes behind the schedule.

Later on 15 November, QF577, the 1340 hours SYD to PER took off at 1433 hours. A332 VH-EBJ should arrive at 1609, 34 minutes tardy.
 
Like QF1, QF7 (1440 hours SYD long flight to DFW) hasn't been a great experience lately, with some flights cancelled. On Friday 15 November, it pushed back at 1522 hours so same day 1335 hours arrival, 40 behind, is the expectation.

Opinion is polarised as to whether the longer PER - LHR sector on QF9 is a fabulous timesaving experience or a 'Nightmareliner' narrow seats, boringly lengthy trip, but one factor not in dispute is that it's had a good timekeeping record (although one of our aviators made the interesting comment it's been "lucky" not to have suffered diversions).

On Friday 15, however, it is predicted to push back an hour late at 1750 hours in MEL, with the intermediate stop in PER 1855 to 2005 (respectively 65 and 45 minutes tardy) with Saturday 16 LHR arrival an estimated 0555 hours, 50 down.

UPDATE: QF9 was a little better than predicted, as B789 VH-ZNF took off at 1754 hours from MEL after pushing back at 1745. Nine minutes for the takeoff roll to be completed after off blocks is fast. PER arrival should be 40 late at 1830 hours, so the pushback for the second sector may be advanced a little if all goes well.

QF45, the Friday 15 November 1730 hours late afternoon MEL to popular DPS pushed back at 1814, so expected arrival is 2110 hours, 40 late. Redeye QF46 back down to MEL is however predicted to only depart 20 late, at 2155 mid evening.
 
Although Friday 15 November's flagship QF1 is to arrive SIN at 2221 hours, 16 minutes late, departure for LHR is delayed until 0040 on Saturday 16, 45 late.

After its cancellation on Thursday night 14 November, one would hope that QF30 (1905 hours HKG - MEL) would operate normally on Friday 15 overnight. However departure has been delayed by a predicted hour with Saturday 16 expected arrival 0820 hours, 45 late.

QF2 on Friday 15 pushed back in SYD at 1954 hours, 39 late with Saturday SYD arrival likely at 0640, half an hour behind.

Elsewhere, the redoubtable milehighclub has suggested that defective 'dooring incident' A388 VH-OQB may be operating Sunday 17's QF11. That would mean the Airbus A380 fleet was back to 10 out of 12 for QFi, sufficient to operate the published timetable.

On Friday 15 November, QF30 (1905 hours HKG - ML redeye) pushed back 70 minutes late, arriving on Saturday 16 at 0815, 40 minutes behind schedule. The aircraft looks to be forming QF79, the 0920 hours MEL - NRT but it is showing as delayed until 1210 in pushback, although the problem has extended beyond that time.

UPDATE: QF79 departed MEL at 1224 hours with NRT arrival estimated as 2005 tonight, 145 late, so on a gate-t-gate basis, 39 minutes of the deficit is expected to be recovered. VH-QPJ is operating 'the 79': it arrived from SIN as QF38 at 1018, right minutes late.

A333 VH-QPH that arrived in MEL on 16 November at 0743 hours, 12 minutes early on QF80 ex NRT is still in MEL, so it may have failed.

QF37, the 1720 hours late afternoon from MEL up to SIN is showing as punctual.

The 0935 hours SYD - HKG (QF127) also departed 70 minutes tardy with arrival estimated as 50 behind at 1640 hours.

QF772 PER-MEL has been delayed from a scheduled 0915 departure to 1310.

I'm looking at a guy sweeping kitty litter over an oil spill at Gate 13, maybe that's related.

When I went to do my boarding pass for QF582 had to get some assistance due to message on the screen. What I thought was my flight just being downgraded to a 737 was actually me being bumped off a flight to the later QF566 :(
 
Also today, QF153 MEL-AKL (A332 VH-EBK) is badly delayed, with suggested arrival at 20 12, 257 min tardy.

This may well have something to do with the troubles of QF171, the 0910 hours Saturday 16 November 2019 MEL - WLG that departed at 0925 but diverted to NZ Air Force base Ohakea (OHA) where it stood from 1520 hours to 2229 hours, with passengers complaining about being in a hot and stuffy B738 until customs and immigration arrived at about 1900 hours (see article.)

(I copied another AFF thread that is discussing this delay, but thought it best to record it here as well.)

The aircraft departed there at 2229 with WLG arrival estimated at 2310 late tonight NZ time, 475 minutes late. Aircraft is B738 VH-VZU.

QF164, the 1600 hours WLG to SYD was cancelled, as was QF163, the 1840 hours early evening SYD back to WLG.

A later report says the initial 'mechanical problem' was to do with a 'wing flap':


In these circumstances, some passengers appear to want monetary compensation.

On Friday 16 November, QF28 departed SCL 11 late at 1346 hours but Saturday 16 arrival was 1830 hours, 40 behind schedule.

Delayed by a badly late QF79 that arrived ex MNL in NRT at 2015, the Saturday 16 QF62 from NRT to BNE - often punctual - pushed back at 2139, 129 late, arriving on Sunday morning 17 at 0734 hours, 114 minutes late.

Palmerston North 6,200'. Ohakea 8,000'. Both are shorter than you want if doing a flawless landing, but you'd always take the longer one.

In these circumstances, some passengers appear to want monetary compensation.

Of course they do...
 
QF145 (SYD-AKL) towed back to gate after push back so engineers can have a look at "issue with engine". Currently at gate and delayed more than 45 minutes, let's see what happens.
 
Also on Sunday 17 November, QF63, the B744, departed SYD at 1205, half an hour late with arrival showing as 1745, 70 late, which will mean a delay to the returning redeye (QF64.) It took off at 1227 so winds must be against VH-OEF.

While not a delay, colleague VH-OEG is operating the SYD - Antarctica flight QF2904 that was airborne this morning at 0817 hours.
