Qantas Delays/Cancellations

...QF8 DFW-SYD for 17th Aug (OQC) has been delayed to the early hours of the 18th, departing Terminal D at 0125 and arriving at Sydney on Monday 0925, for a ~3 hour delay. Hopefully a more leisurely connection in SYD.

Qantas don't seem to be having a great run recently with these USA-AUS legs....

As discussed above, on Thursday 15, QF7 arrived DFW at 2203 hours rather than the afternoon 1300 hours timetabled, so that (rest period) may well have something to do with how QF8 on Saturday night is estimated to push back at 0125 on Sunday 18. The 0930 hours suggested at gate arrival in SYD on Monday morning 19 August 2019 (instead of scheduled 0625) should ideally see you with a choice of which CBR-bound flight you take. Good luck with the upgrade!

It's not just USA - AUS sectors on which QFi runs late, or cancels. BKK, JNB, LAX, LHR, MNL, PVG and SIN are a selection of destinations where QFi passengers have recently suffered significant delays or cancellations (apart from the industry-wide problems in HKG). Unfortunately QFi almost daily is significantly delaying a goodly number of passengers. Its timekeeping is less than ideal on many routes. There are way too many cancellations compared against best in the world SQ or many other competitors, despite most of the latter not being based in Oz.

Just why so many Australians continue to patronise QFi when on many routes there are better and cheaper alternatives would be a mystery, but often, patrons have little choice as they are automatically booked on it by corporates or government entities.

On Friday 16 August, QF12 departed JFK at 1856 hours, 46 late with LAX arrival estimated as 2135, 35 down.

Saturday 17 saw QF37, the 1615 hours MEL - SIN depart 47 minutes behind schedule with consequent arrival estimated as 2320 hours late tonight local time, 55 late. If QF38 is formed by QF37, it will be delayed as 'the 38' has a scheduled pushback at 2350.

The 1630 hours SYD - DPS (QF43) was almost in lockstep, pushing back 45 late so arrival in what some say is bucolic Bali should be 2137 mid evening, 32 late.

QF45, also Bali-bound but from MEL was eerily similar, departing 36 late at 1726 with arrival tonight predicted as 2202, 52 down for this B738.

QF117 (the nightly 2120 hours SYD - HKG) is usually early next morning into the latter but tonight its pushback is delayed to a suggested 2235, fairly close to the 2300 hours curfew, so arrival on Sunday 18 will be 0620, 80 late.

Thanks for that update on the scale of the delays, M. I skimmed only the newest pages in this thread and was surprised just how many flights were delayed by an hour or more. Makes planning connections problematic. Was only going to have 105mins on the ground before the SYD-CBR leg. But after being away for 7 weeks you don't really want to dawdle, even in the lounge.

And it looks like the Business Class upgrade request has been approved, so I might get some sleep this time. Being well over 6' I really struggle in Economy, though I had paid for the upper deck extra legroom seats on both QF7/8, since 15-17 hours without legroom would have been beyond my threshold.

So I had finally decided to try and utilise my QFF points for an upgrade, after slowly accumulating them for too many years. This certainly seemed like the time to use those points. Didn't hold out much hope, though - still 10 SC short of Silver, though with QC membership, and understand what that usually means.

QF1408 Bendigo BXG - Sydney SYD has been cancelled today. Unsure of the reasons but it's a strange one.

Q300 VH-SBB is currently 'stuck' on the ground in Bendigo after its early arrival into Bendigo last night operating QF1407.

Qantas will operate an empty ferry flight QF6711 departing SYD at 1100 and arriving BXG at 1300 today.

The strange thing is that it will then operate 2 ferry flights back to Sydney, both departing BXG at 1400 and arriving in SYD at 1550: QF6714 and QF6712. Both flights will fly empty.

Interestingly, that service last night and the cancelled service this morning are the 'inaugural' Sat/Sun flights for this route as it went from a 6 days a week to a daily service this weekend.

Sunday 18th of August sees QF592 PER-ADL (B738 VH-VZR) with a revised arrival at 16 53, 78 min behind.
QF613 BNE-MEL (B738 VH-VZD) arrived to gate at 12 45, 70 min late.

In more on 18 August 2019, QF19 (1210 hours lunchtime SYD up to MNL, A332 VH-EBO) was airborne at 1546 so arrival has become an estimated 2149 hours, 199 minutes tardy, delaying redeye QF20 (the scheduled 2000 hours) to about a 2300 departure back down to SYD.

B744 VH-OEH on QF27 (1235 hours SYD - SCL) pushed back at 1311 so arrival - same day - should be 1150, 45 late.

Earlier, QF29 )MEL to HKG) creditably pushed back four minutes early at 0936 hours but arrival at 1814 was 54 late. It was not airborne until 1010, about 10 late so that explains a small part of the delay.

The Saturday night QF8 departed DFW at 0114, 11 earlier than expected (but 169 minutes tardy) with SYD Monday 19 arrival estimated as 0825, two hours behind schedule. One AFFer (see above) is on board.

QF20 pushed back in MNL at 2300, on the dot, three hours late on Sunday 18 August with SYD Monday 19 arrival predicted as 0902, 172 minutes tardy.

UPDATE: It arrived SYD at 0900 (also on the dot.) As it is forming QF81 from SYD to SIN, the 1010 hours, this is delayed until 1100 in projected pushback with arrival at 1735 to be 45 minutes tardy.

The 0910 hours QF79 from MEL up to NRT was off blocks 49 late so arrival is estimated at 1920 tonight, 50 late.

QF127 from SYD to HKG, the 1020 hours is forecast to depart 65 minutes behind schedule with arrival 35 late at 1835 local time early this evening.

The 0930 hours morning SYD - PVG, QF129 was just 17 late pushing back but arrival is delayed until a predicted 1909 tonight, 44 late.

SYD is on one runway today with the usual litany of domestic cancellations as a result. There is a B747 at gate 10 domestic, apparently operating QF427 to MEL. I guess this is to sweep up passengers from all the cancellations.
 
According to Lounge Staff in Melbourne, Sydney & Melbourne are on single runway operations and Brisbane had fog. I was meant to be departing at 11:45am but now (after a flight change too) hopefully going on the 812 at 1350
 
QF7, the Monday 19 August 1235 hours lunchtime SYD - DFW A388 had been displaying as punctual but it was off blocks 80 late, with same day arrival estimated as 1416 hours, 76 minutes tardy.

Not much in front of 'the 7' as QF19 pushed back an hour tardy at 1310 in SYD with MNL arrival suggested as 1935, 65 late, delaying QF20 for the second consecutive night.

The 1210 hours southbound BNE - MEL (QF619, B738 VH-VXB that was airborne at 1427) should be at its MEL gate at roughly 1637, 82 late.

QF438 (1400 hours MEL - SYD, "backlog breaking" B744 VH-OEI - thank you to AFFer jpp42 for the earlier advice - took off at 1533) with at gate arrival likely at 1640, 75 late.

The 1145 hours MEL - CBR (QF848, B738 VH-VYE) is far worse with takeoff at 1514 meaning arrival at 1602, 192 minutes tardy.

The afternoon MEL - SIN (QF37) should depart an hour behind at 1715 with arrival forecast as 2330 late tonight, 65 late.

Returning to MEL ex CBR as QF851 on Monday 19 August, B738 VH-VYE took off at 1655, more than three hours late as it should push back at 1330.

The PER across to SYD QF642 has A332 VH-EBL with arrival likely at 1732, 62 late.

The 1150 hours OOL down to SYD has B738 VH-VYH but was not in the air until 1545 hours so arrival should be at around 1715 hours, 235 minutes tardy.

QF1584 (1155 hours scheduled HBA up to SYD) is very similar with B717 VH-YQY taking off at 1530. Resultant suggested arrival is 1717 hours, 212 late.

B738 VH-VZI is on QF147, the 1600 hours SYD - AKL in the sky at 1701 for projected at gate arrival of 2140, 35 behind.

The 1350 hours afternoon PQQ down to SYD took off at 1613 so arrival for Q400 VH-LQB should be 1721 hours, 146 minutes behind schedule.

B717 VH-NXN is on QF6021 that took off from OOL empty at 1621 bound for SYD, so another result of today's difficult operations.

QF533 (1405 hours BNE down to SYD) was in the sky at 1612 with VH-VXQ suggested as arriving at 1738, 118 late.

QF863, the 1320 hours OOL - SYD is worse with it becoming airborne at 1614 this afternoon. Arrival for B738 VH-VYI should be at 1740, 170 minutes past the mandated.

The CFS down to SYD QF2109 is not escaping the late running with Q400 VH-QOT on this 1305 hours departure in the sky at 1631 for forecast arrival 193 late at 1733 hours.

The afternoon MEL - SIN (QF37) should depart an hour behind at 1715 with arrival forecast as 2330 late tonight, 65 late.

This departure delay has extended to a suggested 1855 with SIN arrival estimated as 0110 hours on Tuesday 20, 165 minutes tardy.

The very late evening QF38 (2350 ex SIN) should instead push back at 0225 for Tuesday MEL arrival at 1155 hours, 160 late. Passengers on 'the 38' are unlucky as some other QFi flights have longer than minimum scheduled turnarounds in SIN, allowing time to be gained on the ground if the inbound is late. QF37 to QF38 only has about 10 minutes longer than the minimum.

Up in SYD, the 1740 hours B744-operated QF73 is predicted to depart 90 late. Not sure if this has any connection with B744 VH-OEI operating a return flight to MEL today due to the numerous disruptions recorded above.

QF3, also a B744 but to HNL is an hour late in its predicted pushback, becoming 2015.

UPDATE: QF73 departed at 1919, 99 late with same day SFO arrival forecast as 1516, 76 down. As mused above, VH-OEI is the aircraft: it arrived from MEL as QF436 at 1641 this afternoon, 76 minutes late and would then have had to transfer to the SYD international terminal, so that explains the delay to 'the 73.'

'The 37' was later than predicted off blocks, at 1912 hours (187 late) so SIN arrival is further deferred to a claimed 0132 hours, 192 late. This will put back pushback of QF38 to about 0245 meaning arrival on Tuesday 20 in MEL may be at approximately 1215 hours, 180 late.

VH-EBJ is the A332 on tonight's late QF37. It arrived in MEL at 1234, 199 late on QF38 this morning so no obvious reason for the delay to QF37.

QFd late running is continuing well into the evening of Monday 19 August with B738 VH-VXG on QF474, the 1815 hours MEL - SYD airborne at 1918 so arrival is predicted as 2031, 51 down.

The BNE - SYD QF549 is similar, having taken off at 1925 with VH-VXA. Arrival at 2042, 62 late is the expectation.
 
Also on Monday 19 August 2019, QF3 has been further delayed with prediction of a 90 late pushback in SYD at 2045 and resultant same day HNL arrival at 0955 hours, 85 late. This should see QF4, the 1050 hours Monday local time back to SYD pushing back in HNL at around the 1140 hours mark.
 
Also today, QF158 AKL-MEL (A332 VH-EBE) has a predicted arrival at 21 59, 59 min behind.
QF636 MEL-BNE, the 20 10 hours service has a revised departure at 22 00 hours.
 
18 August 2019 QF 767 BNE-PER scheduled for 20:20 departed at 22:57 due to late arrival of the A332 VH-EBD from AKL.
Arrived in PER at 01:59 19/08/2019 instead of 23:55 18/08/2019
 
The Monday 19 August 1915 hours QF3 (SYD - HNL) is further delayed to predicted off blocks at 2055 hours.

UPDATE: This occurred at 2107, 112 late with HNL arrival suggested as 1020 hours, 110 late. QF4 should depart HNL at 1205, 75 late.

Thus far on Monday 19 August 2019, 11 QFd flights southbound from SYD to MEL have been cancelled, meaning delays (assuming every passenger was rebooked) for many.

QF497, the last southbound at 2205 hours is expected to depart half an hour late while QF491, the 2030 hours should push back at 2205.

QF479, the 1845 hours SYD - MEL is the 'short straw' with departure predicted for 2215, so an arrival not far off midnight if that holds.
