Qantas Delays/Cancellations

...B744 VH-OEF was airborne bang on 1400 hours from SYD with HKG arrival estimated as 1914 hours local time...

After operating 'ferry' (empty) flight QF6015, on Sunday 3 February VH-OEF departed HKG with QF30 at 2106 hours, 116 minutes late. Monday 4 MEL arrival is estimated as 0844, 74 late. At 0824, this aircraft was in a holding pattern slightly to Bendigo's east.

QF74, the SFO to SYD B744 arrived on Monday 48 late at 0658 hours.

The LAX - MEL QF94 departed 62 late on Saturday 2 so Monday 4 estimated arrival is 1034, 44 late making a delay for QF35, the 1220 hours lunchtime MEL up to SIN likely.

In more on 4 February, QF81 departed SYD 54 late at 1224 with SIN suggested arrival at 1734, 49 minutes late.

QF63 was late yesterday so the departure of QF64 from JNB occurred at 2106 hours on Sunday 3, 136 late. SYD 4 February arrival should be at 1748, 113 late.

QF27, another B744, arrived in SCL at 1330 hours, 140 late, so QF29 was tardy, pushing back in SCL at 1556 hours, 141 late with Monday 4 SYD arrival forecast as 1956 hours, 136 minutes behind the schedule. This aircraft is then forming QF25, the 2135 mid evening redeye to HND. It may be a little late pushing back.

The 0920 hours BNE up to NRT, QF61 has been delayed overnight to a predicted 0950 hours departure on Tuesday 5 February. Arrival tomorrow should be at 1650 instead of 1730 this afternoon.

Tonight's QF62, the 1930 hours NRT - BNE will instead push back on Tuesday 5 at 1835 for an 0450 hours Wednesday 6 arrival instead of 0540 tomorrow.

The long haul QF7 (1440 ex SYD) is estimated to depart 35 minutes late for DFW in the USA.

In further on Monday 4 February 2019, QF460 (B738 VH-VYK, the 1830 early evening MEL - SYD airborne at 1935) should arrive at 2051, 56 minutes tardy.

Even later on 4 February, QF822 (B738 VH-VXP), the mid evening 2105 hours SYD down the short hop to CBR) took off at 2234 so arrival will be at about 2315 hours.

Southbound QF1553 from BNE down to CBR (B717 VH-NXQ< the 1915 hours that was not in the sky until 2106) looks to be arriving at around the 2336 hours mark, 91 late.

QF1756 (B717 VH-YQY) is the 1940 hours BNE - CNS that took off at 2056, so arrival is estimated as 2258, 58 late.

Some of these flights may be delayed due to the huge amount of rain that has or is falling in Far North Queensland, and consequent flooding.

QF2050 (Q400 VH-LQB, the 0630 hours early morning DPO up to MEL on Tuesday 5 February 2019 did not take off until 0749. Arrival is at 0850, 70 late. This will in turn delay QF2051 back to DPO by an expected 70 minutes to a predicted 0920 hours departure.

QF63 was late yesterday so the departure of QF64 from JNB occurred at 2106 hours on Sunday 3, 136 late. SYD 4 February arrival should be at 1748, 113 late..

This flight had VH-OJS, the aircraft that is to go to the scrapyard within a couple of weeks.

This is a passenger review on TripAdvisor that appears to be this flight:

We travelled on QF64 from Johannesburg to Sydney today. We were in business class. The flight was 2 hours late leaving Johannesburg OT Airport. The reason for the delay is pretty odd.A passenger on boarding in economy proceeded to go upstairs(in the 747)to the business class area where he then got into the coughpit and tried to take the Captains iPad.The passenger got access to the coughpit because it was open!I know the coughpit is locked during flight but not apparently on boarding. This should be changed. The rouge passenger was spotted by the crew and taken off the flight. The captain then advised that “a passenger had gained unauthorised access to the coughpit and he was conducting an urgent security inspection”.Not very comforting for passengers given the crew seemed to have been caught off guard. The captain then flagged that the luggage of the rouge passenger was to be off loaded. This took nearly 1.5 hours. The bag scanning machine was apparently down and all the luggage containers had to be searched.I have never seen this take this long before. The bags were finally found in the last luggage container. There were few and far between updates from the crew-it took about 45 minutes between updates. This lack of communication was pretty poor.Plus not keeping the coughpit secure during the boarding process doesn’t give you a lot of confidence. We arrived in Sydney nearly 2 hours late. Not a great experience as it looks like the incident could have been prevented.

On Tuesday 5 February, QF79, the 0920 hours MEL - NRT has been delayed until a predicted 1200 'high noon' in its pushback with arrival suggested as 2005 hours, 145 minutes late. QF62, Tuesday night's 1930 hours redeye to BNE ex NRT will instead depart at 0900 on Wednesday 6 February with arrival at 1905 instead of 0540, so 805 minutes tardy.

As noted a few posts back, the Monday 4 February QF62 (NRT- BNE) was to depart at 1835 tonight (Tuesday) but this has been further pushed back to 2120 this evening, meaning Wednesday 6 arrival at 0735 hours, 1555 minutes late.

any reason on why QF61 is delayed until tmw?

The 0920 hours Monday 4 February QF61D departed BNE at 0912 hours on Tuesday 5 with estimated NRT arrival at 1728 late this afternoon local times, two minutes short of a 24 hour delay. A333 VH-QPD is the aircraft that had come in at 0556, a minute late on QF98 ex HKG.

Today's (Tuesday 5) QF61, the 0920 hours BNE - NRT has been altered to a redeye, departing BNE at 2200 tonight with arrival estimated at 0615 hours bright and early on Wednesday 6, 765 minutes late.

It may be that the problem of a B789 remaining out of service has cascaded down to affect the A333 QFi rotations. No doubt Flyerqf will know the reason why the Tokyo schedules are so mucked up.

Although QF10 is estimated to arrive PER only three minutes late on Tuesday 5 February (ex LHR) at 1248 hours, the onwards second sector is expected to depart at 1445, half an hour late for MEL.

going up sunday on QF61 ... hopefully everything is sorted out by then

One other addition for BNE is that QF97, the 0930 hours BNE - HKG is cancelled today as is QF98, the 1905 hours redeye back to BNE.

Very unusual for the Brisbane A333 scheduled QFi flights to be adversely affected more than Melbourne's.

Just got a text message from Qantas saying tomorrows QF51 (scheduled departure at 11:50am on 6/2) will be delayed till 8:20pm.

I have to get a connecting flight on 7/2 at 8:45pm from Singapore to Europe. Unfortunately this is on a different ticket (Qatar Airways). Hope they don't delay this flight further or cancel it...

"Enjoy" the amended 0215 hours Thursday 7 February SIN expected arrival, 500 minutes late.

Have you asked QF whether it will provide meal vouchers for lunch and dinner at the airport tomorrow for those who lack lounge access? (Irrelevant to you if you have this).

I assume you are only required to check in prior to 1920 hours, but there'll inevitably be some who have already arranged to be at the airport at say 0900 hours, or who must check out of an hotel by 1000 or 1100 and then have to spend all day at BNE airport.

It was chaos for JQ recently in MEL but it's now not far off that for QF patrons in BNE with QF61/62 and now QF51 badly affected.

QF84, the scheduled 2210 hours Wednesday 7 SIN down to SYD has been changed to depart at the unseemly hour of 0330 hours on Thursday 7 February, with arrival predicted as 1425 hours, 310 minutes tardy.

In moe on Tuesday 5 February, QF27, the B744 scheduled to depart SYD at 1250 hours for distant SCL was again late with pushback at 1430. Arrival should be at 1234 hours, 84 late. The returning QF28 should depart at 1430, 55 late with Wednesday 6 SYD arrival at about 1825 hours, 45 minutes tardy.

The aircraft, VH-OEI had arrived from SFO in SYD this morning at 0613, only three minutes late so it had plenty of time to form 'the 27.'

On occasion when I've been in Sydney departing internationally, these long haul flights can be late to dock at the gate, as given the demand, it would be unusual for a plane to stay at the same gate from 0600 to close to 1300 hours.

QF79 on 5 February departed at 1204 and should arrive NRT at 2013 tonight, 153 minutes behind schedule. A333 VH-QPB is the aircraft: it had earlier arrived on QF80 (ex NRT) at 0730, half an hour early in MEL.

The overnight delayed QF62D (originally QF62 from Monday 5 February 2019) departed NRT later than estimated, at 2148 hours on Tuesday 6. Wednesday 7 BNE arrival should be 0748, more than 26 hours late.

The 0920 hours QF61 BNE - NRT tomorrow morning is likely to be at least slightly delayed as at this stage, QF62D is forming this.

I don’t know the actual reason but can only speculate that they took the earliest slot available at NRT given they were operating two BNE to NRT flights on the one day.

Subsequently the delayed QF61/62 has a flow on impact to Wednesday’s QF51.

The 787 being out of action at MEL is being covered by a 744 and no impact should be felt in the 330 scheduling.

Wednesday 6 February 2019 finds QF1543, the first of the morning at an unattractive 0510 AEST from BNE to CBR that took off at 0635 likely to arrive at 0903 hours, 63 late. Aircraft is B717 VH-YQW.
