Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Thanks dwit. QF146, the 1625 hours AKL - SYD airborne at 1708 (A332 VH-EBN) has diverted to MEL with arrival there suggested at about 1935 hours. The timetable calls for SYD arrival at 1800.

QF1486 (Q400 VH-QOE) is teh 1630 hours CBR - SYD that took off at 1852 - quicker to travel by NSW TrainLink or drive) - and that should arrive at 1938 hours, 143 minutes tardy.

In the other direction, a similar story as QF1483, the 1630 hours SYD - CBR southbound (VH-QOA) was airborne at 1930 for expected arrival at around 2012 hours, 167 minutes behind the timetable.

QF28 should be taking off to head back to Sydney in about 30m after refueling both plane and pilots.

One hopes passengers and cabin crew were also 'refuelled' on the ground but assume no fare paying passengers allowed to deplane? All stayed on board?

Yes no one allowed to deplane. Which would be extremely frustrating if you were going to Brisbane.

Unfortunately in such situations in Oz, pretty much par for the course unless one is HLO and even though permission rarely seems to be granted.

In further storm related delays on Saturday 5 January, QF1 (1700 hours flagship SYD to SIN and LHR) is expected to depart at 1945 but it won't surprise if it is later. Passengers boarding in SIN will have a long wait into the local small hours.

QF2007, the TMW down to SYD (Q400 VH-QOP) should be at its destination at 2005 hours, 125 minutes late.

In relation to OEB and in flight entertainment it wasn't working on flight out of Australia the weekend before Xmas. We ended up leaving an hour late after they gave up trying to get it too work. The good side was drink top ups were plentiful and didn't require any asking.

QF452, the 5 January 1700 hours MEL - SYD was presumably held by ATC at the former due to SYD storms and took off at 1915 hours with B738 VH-VXM. Arrival is estimated as 2027 hours, 122 late.

Continuing with Saturday 5 January and the late afternoon storms in Sydney, QF3, the 1925 hours SYD - HNL B744 has been altered to depart at 2100 hours. At least passengers on today's (calendar days) QF4 have plenty of notice that their flight back down to SYD will be delayed.

The 1710 hours scheduled BNE - MEL, QF631 (VH-VXR) at 1902 Qld time was still waiting clearance to take off, so it will be 95 minutes plus late into MEL.

QF597, 1720 hours BNE across and down to PER (VH-VXF) was also awaiting takeoff.

With storms continuing to batter Sydney (including a reported 1500 plus lightning strikes), it looks like the air crew on QF73, the 1755 hours SYD - SF) may have run out of hours. It has been rescheduled to a 1500 hours mid afternoon departure on Sunday 6 January for an estimated arrival in SFO at 0925 hours on Sunday, 21 hours late.

The 2035 hours QF74 on Saturday 5 from SFO has become a suggested 1135 hours Sunday 6 departure, 15 hours late - a nice time to leave if one isn't in a hurry - with anticipated SYD arrival 2105 instead of 0610 on Monday 7 January.

With the two nights of QF25 SYD - HND disruptions and other delays to QF27/28 SYD - SCL and return, those booked on B744 flights can expect delays at least until Monday 7, but it will vary markedly by route. JNB, for instance, may be unaffected: time will tell.

The diverted to BNE QF28 has departed there and should arrive SYD at about 2116 hours, 216 minutes late. Aircraft is B744 VH-OEE.

The expected delay to the 1700 hours SYD - SIN QF1 A388 has become departure at 2040 hours but that time was 10 minutes ago. The BOM site suggests that storms are not at Sydney Airport now but they're encircling the whole city.

QF453, the 1700 hours SYD down to MEL was airborne at 2053 with A332 VH-EBK and should arrive at 2213 tonight, 218 minutes late.

The 1830 hours SYD across to WLG has B738 VH-XZG (QF163) and took off at 2052 hours.

QF2047, the 1645 hours DBO - SYD was in the sky at 2010 with Q400 VH-QOI, arriving at 2112 hours, 202 minutes tardy.

In more on 5 January 209, QF545 (B738 VH-VXB, the 1605 hours BNE down to SYD airborne at 1823 arrived at 2116 hours, 156 late.

A332 VH-EBG on QF43, the 1655 hours SYD to DPS took off at 2109 so expected arrival is 2353 or later, 223 late.

The 1820 hours SYD - OOL, QF868 has VH-VXE and is not quite so bad, with anticipated arrival at 2126 hours, 161 minutes behind schedule.

QF3 is further delayed to an expected SYD departure at 2130.

The HNL -BNE - SYD (diverted) QF4 (B744 VH-OEF) took off from BNE at 1937 hours on Saturday 5 January 2019 and after a hold north of Muswellbrook, should arrive SYD at about 2205 hours, 295 minutes late.

It is behind the SCL - SYD QF28 (B744 VH-OEE) that similarly took off from BNE at 1912 and should be in SYD (finally) at 2155 hours, 255 late.

Also diverted to BNE, QF164 is leading the other two with SYD arrival of this AKL - SYD likely at 2148, 253 late.

This means missed connections for anyone bound for ADL, BNE, CNS, MEL and PER to name a few.

In more on 5 January 2019, QF1 (1700 hours SYD - SIN - LHR) was in the sky at 2122 hours with A388 VH-OQB, having pushed back at 2055. The SIn stop is estimated as 0146 to 0240, achievable but very fast, and the latter being 165 minutes tardy. LHR arrival is suggested as Sunday 6 January at 0850, 155 late.

It has been rescheduled to a 1500 hours mid afternoon departure on Sunday 6 January for an estimated arrival in SFO at 0925 hours on Sunday, 21 hours late.

Not sure crew hours are the problem for QF73. Seems there are no aircraft in Sydney to operate it since 2 went to
BNE and the arrival will not be early enough to get out before curfew. It looks like the QF73 aircraft went to QF3 instead - no idea why.

QF12, the Friday 4 January 2230 hours LAX to SYD departed at 2321 hours so on Sunday 6 arrival should be at 0918 hours, 43 minutes late.

The overnight delay to last night's QF25 (SYD to HND) means that on Sunday, QF26 is expected to arrive two hours late at 1135 back in SYD.

QF2161, the Sunday 6 0635 hours PQQ - SYD is predicted to depart at 1020 hours with arrival at 1135, 230 late. I haven't checked but the inbound tonight must have been badly late due to the Saturday Sydney storms.

Similarly QF1464, the 0650 hours CBR - SYD is predicted to depart on Sunday morning at 1030 hours with arrival becoming 225 minutes late at 1130 hours. Better to relax on the morning train and beat the flight in to the Sydney CBD, or if you must, drive.

QF2264, the 0745 hours SYD - LDH, a problematical route often, is delayed until an expected 0915 hours on Sunday 6 in its pushing back.

QF140, the 0655 hours Sunday 6 January AKL - SYD has been cancelled.

The 0930 hours SYD - KIX, QF33, is expected to depart at 1100 on Sunday.
