Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Pushka, interesting that you had the previous post as I was thinking of you when noticing that QF2, the overnight SIN - SYD has on Friday 29 June 2018 diverted to ADL, I assume because of fog in SYD.

A388 VH-OQC departed SIN on Thursday night (28 June) at 1939, nine minutes late but stopped in ADL from 0356 to 0545 (just a few minutes ago.) SYD arrival should be at 0750 instead of 0510.

I assume MEL was considered too foggy to be the alternate. Please correct me if this was a medical diversion.

UPDATE: As the 'SMH' reports and Flyerqf has indicated below, a lady died on board QF2 so that's why it was diverted to ADL, even though with latter's curfew not many on duty at the hour it landed.

You really shouldn't assume. You don't have enough knowledge of the subject to make them anything other than guesses. The information needed to make the guess reasonable was available in the form of past weather forecasts and actuals. Melbourne never had fog on the forecast and the worst it had was weather that was 100 feet better than the alternate minima. In other words it was always available. And you can't divert to Adelaide, which not only has a curfew, but works closing the main runway, unless you have some form of emergency.

Thank you jb747. I did that at 0600 or so this morning. Of course you have more knowledge about the aviation weather forecasts than most other contributors.

Continuing with Friday 29 June, some late running is ongoing into the evening with QF463, the 1830 hours SYD down to MEL (A332 VH-EBJ) becoming airborne at 1943, so arrival is estimated at 2102, 57 late.

QF696 from ADL to MEL (VH-VYJ) should arrive at 2251 tonight, 61 late.

Thaks jb747. Your comments re aviation weather and applicable websites ought really be a 'sticky': that would be the practice on some other travel-related sites. Very hard to search in two months' time.

On Saturday 30 June, QF409 (A332 VH-EBF, the 0700 hours SYD - MEL that was in the sky at 0759 hours) should arrive at 0912 hours, 37 minutes tardy.

B738 ZK-ZQH on QF153 (scheduled 0745 hours MEL across to AKL) did not take off until 0859. Consequently arrival is predicted as 43 late at 1403 this afternoon local time.

The overnight PVG to SYD, QF130 has as usual an A333, VH-QPG and looks to be arriving at 1034 hours, 129 minutes behind time. This is due to QF129 on 29 June not taking off from SYD until 1214 hours, more than two hours behind schedule. The aircraft had been only half an hour late arriving (at 0655 yesterday on QF24 ex BKK, so no obvious reason for the delay.

VH-QPG looks to next be on QF33, the thrice weekly relatively recently introduced flight to KIX. It is displaying as likely to depart at 1145, 90 minutes late with arrival at 2045, 95 late. '1145' is probably a little optimistic.

QF75 SYD-YVR is now departing an hour late at 1800.

Jessica, this is because QF64 from JNB to SYD is not arriving until about 1620, 85 minutes late. It looks at this stage to be forming the seasonal QF75.

Not trying to go off topic for too long, but is the latter only operating for a couple of weeks at this time of the year?

AC has expanded into elsewhere in Oz to YVR but is it because QF doesn't believe there's sufficient demand at an acceptable yield, or simply that with present equipment it doesn't have a spare B744 or even two to run scheduled three days a week or even daily flights?

QF63, the 1055 hours Saturday 30 June SYD - JNB B744 should depart 85 late at 1220 with arrival at 1805 hours, 65 late. Once again the overnight QF64 will be delayed departing JNB.

Re: not running the GDP last Saturday
Actually, the GDP was suspended for all the ports last Saturday due to technical works at Airservices. The same thing happened the previous Saturday but the works were not able to be completed. It normally runs for Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane every Saturday.

On 30 June, the expected delay to the 1055 hours SYD - JNB that was 1220 has become 1315 hours. Passengers at JNB in a few hours waiting for QF64 will have to cool their heels for longer. OK if in the majority with lounge access but a pain for those who don't, especially if travelling with littlies or the elderly.

The 1015 hours SYD - SIN (QF81) is predicted to depart at 1245 with arrival at 1905 tonight, 135 minutes late.

Due to the delayed Friday 29 June 2018 QF11 from BNE to LAX that arrived at 0933 hours, 213 minutes late, QF11 departed LAX at 1200 'high noon' (220 late) with at gate JFK arrival 2009 (219 late.)

QF12 then pushed back at 2206 hours (236 late), arriving LAX at an estimated 0020, which would be 200 minutes tardy.

The delayed QF63 on 30 June departed SYD at 1323 with suggested JNB arrival at 1921, 141 minutes late. The 1910 hours back overnight is displaying as punctual but that is impossible, so expect pushback at around 2100 hours if all goes swimmingly.

Also on Saturday 30 June, QF10 (B789 VH-ZNC) from LHR is arriving in PER at 1358, 58 minutes late. This will delay the ongoing 1515 hours domestic leg to Melbourne.

In turn, QF95 from MEL to LAX is expected to depart half an hour late at 2210 tonight.

UPDATE: QF10 had not departed PER by 1530, so is likely to be at least an hour late into MEL tonight, delaying QF95 further.

Three posts above, QF81 on 30 June from SYD to SIN was expected to be 1245/1905 in its respective departure and on blocks times. This proved an underestimate of the delay as it was off blocks this afternoon at 1309 but arrival is not predicted until 2005 hours, 195 minutes later than the timetabled 1650 late afternoon arrival. A332 VH-EBV is the aircraft.

If forming QF82 back, it will be slightly delayed from the advertised 2110 hours departure.

The tardy SYD - KIX QF33 should arrive at 2127 hours, 137 late. QF34, the 2035 hours redeye should depart at 2240 with Sunday 1 July arrival in SYD at 0930, two hours late.

QF1 (1555 hours SYD - SIN - LHR) departed at 1630 and should be 40 late into SIN at 2255 tonight, but it has every chance of arriving at LHR on time.

Friday 29 June 2018's QF46 from DPS to MEL (B738 VH-VZT) looks to have been delayed overnight by the Mt Agung situation, and perhaps crewing minimum required rest times given flights are all over the place. It departed at 1603 mid afternoon on Saturday 30 and should arrive at 2349, so at least it won't span two financial years.

I think the QF45 was delayed overnight and departed this morning instead hence delaying QF46.

Friday 28 June's transcon USA QF12 arrived LAX at 0045 hours on Saturday 30, 225 minutes late, so the connecting LAX - SYD QF12 was delayed until 0204, 214 late. On Sunday 1 July, it should arrive Sydney at 0928 hours, 178 late.

QF16 to BNE was naturally delayed so on Sunday its arrival is estimated as 0845 hours, 160 late. On Sunday 1 July, QF15 from BNE to LAX should depart half an hour late at 1040 as a result.

QF96 looks to have been held as well with this B789 estimated for MEL arrival at 0930, 65 late.

The 1210 hours lunchtime SYD - MNL on Saturday 30 June departed three minutes early but arrived half an hour late at 1900 hours.

QF20, the 2000 hours redeye return from MNL down to SYD has been delayed until 0730 on Sunday 1 July in its departure. Expected SYD arrival is 1735 rather than 0610 hours. A332 VH-EBQ is the aircraft.

QF23 has kicked off the 2018-19 financial year with a 57 minute late SYD departure at 1037 hours meaning BKK arrival at 1742, 62 minutes tardy.

Although the 0930 hours SYD - PVG was only 25 late in pushing back in SYD on 1 July 2018, arrival is not predicted until 1909 hours, 44 late. This will delay QF130 tonight.

The SYD - LAX QF11 is often on time but today departed half an hour behind at 1005, so anticipated at gate LAX time is 0657 hours, 37 late.

QF29, the 0935 hours MEl - HKG, another flight that has been tardy a fair bit recently, departed 85 late with arrival suggested as 1835 hours, 75 late.

QF15 was 70 late in departing from BNE at 1120 hours. LAX arrival is showing as 0640 so some time is expected to be picked up on a gate-to-gate basis. However QF11 may still be a little late in pushing back in LAX for the USA transcon trip across to JFK.

QF81, the 1015 hours SYD up to SIN should depart shortly at 1130, making arrival a likely 1805, 75 late.

This afternoon's QF117 is expected to depart SYD 55 late at 1515 hours with HKG arrival at 2300, an hour late.

The B744-operated QF63 has been delayed quite a bit lately: today's is 45 minutes until 1140 out of SYD with JNB arrival 50 late at 1750 hours local time.

The 1210 hours SYD - PEK (QF107) should depart 40 late this afternoon.

Saturday’s QF64 out of JNB is showing an 8 hour delay. As it’s now due in just before curfew, no chance for QF25 to depart for HND tonight. 25 is delayed until tomorrow 1340.

The overnight delayed QF20 ex MNL departed a little earlier than the 0730 hours predicted, at 0717 on Sunday 1 July. Arrival in SYD should be at 1646 this afternoon rather than 0610 hours. A332 VH-EBQ is the plane.

A333 VH-QPD looks like it had been rostered on the hour-delayed QF117 from SYD to HKG this arvo but has instead departed for MNL on the 1210 hours QF19. The MNL flights are mostly A332s.

QF63 departed SYD at 1214, 79 late with JNB arrival suggested as 1823 hours, 83 late.B744 VH-OJU is the craft.

The 1210 hours SYD - PEK departed at 1303.
