Qantas Delays/Cancellations

milehighclub may be kind enough to fill us in as to why QF7 today is delayed. That's quite rare.

Believe this is due to an aircraft change, not sure of the reason. QF127 is now scheduled to be a 747 tomorrow instead of an A380 and imagine this ties in to what is happening today.

Isn't QF127/128 usually a 747 on a midweek Tuesday and or Wednesday?

From what I can see OQB, OQC, OQI are sitting in SYD. One of these is the delayed QF7.

The ever reliable and informed milehighclub, would bookings be heavy as one might expect in the southbound direction tomorrow night, as passengers return from Christmas and school holidays or to a new year of (dare I say it) work? If close to fully booked, some may be left behind if there are no spare seats on the second Sydney, or the Melbourne or Brisbane ex HKG flights.

QF117, the 1325 hours Wednesday 18 January 'second stringer' from SYD to HKG departed 73 minutes behind schedule at 1438. Anticipated arrival is 50 minutes tardy at 2040.

The 1220 MEL - HKG QF35 was off blocks at 1444, so arrival is not predicted until 1915 hours, 110 minutes behind schedule.

Flagship QF1 (A388 VH-OQC), the 1645 SYD to DXB and LHR took off at 1746. Arrival should be at 0040 on Thursday, on time in DXB according to QF but FR24 estimates landing at 0132 hours.

Also on Wednesday 18 January, A388 VH-OQI was airborne on the much delayed QF7 (1505 hours SYD longhaul to DFW) at 2235, with arrival suggested as 2015 same day. As noted above this will delay the same day QF8 back to Sydney, probably by about two hours in its departure.

It is as unusual for QF8 to be delayed as it is for QF7, but in fairness to the Oz - LAX or return flights from BNE/ MEL/ SYD, the DFW flight does not have the difficulty of a USA transcontinental QF own metal B744 on QF11/ QF12 that can particularly result in a late departure of the A388 on QF12 back to SYD, and of course the same aircraft QF16 from LAX to BNE.

For individuals wedded to QF, it may be quicker to travel on QF7/QF8 rather than via Los Angeles if one's destination or origin is New York, Florida and so on. This helps to explain the popularity of QF7/QF8 that by all accounts are quite well loaded for most of the year. 20 years ago if one had proposed such a route it might have been greeted with raised eyebrows.

With the huge delay to QF7, the Thursday 18 January QF8 is expected to depart DFW at 2230 instead of 2005 with Saturday 20 SYD arrival projected at 0800 rather than 0605.

Hi
another Melbournian here ...
I had interest in 18 Jan QF7 as my daughter was booked on this flight on her way back to NYC.
We have done the trek via LAX quite a few times, mainly because it is QF metal all the way to/from JFK. Going to NYC there is the convenience that connections are within TBIT and generally wait and the experience is much nicer than US domestic.
QF7 on this occasion was to try out the alternate routing. Arrival time into NYC is better as traffic is much lighter into Manhattan.

Checking in at MEL for the domestic flight to Sydney she was informed QF7 had been cancelled, and we were sent to the service desk. Probably remiss of us not to check before leaving home, but she had not received any alerts from Qantas - maybe as her US phone was not roaming, but email was fine.
QF93 had just closed so she was moved onto QF95 ... back through LAX with a AA domestic flight to JFK. Part way through the process the agent noted QF7 was delayed but not cancelled, but thankfully continued with the QF95 routing. If they had reverted her to original route she would have arrived DFW 8pm, and (from what I can tell) missed the last flight that day to any NYC airport.
Must say the QF agents at domestic check-in and sales were very good and pleasant to deal with.

As it happened, 95 was delayed so she missed the intended connection at LAX due to time in immigration etc, but ultimately arrived in NYC about 90 minutes later than the originally scheduled time had QF7 operated as per normal.

Any clues on the problem with VH-OQI ?

For the first time in a very long time, QF9 actually departed MEL on time last night (it was actually 13 minutes late at 23:38).

That 0.1 out of 5.0 OTD rating may be under threat.....

Flight crew are fantastic.. CSM has worked tirelessly to find the best solution for me.. Even finding me a J seat on another plane if necessary.. But we think this one will get away slightly before 9am.. Engineering team is off.. Doors closed :)

On Friday 3 February, QF1463 and QF1425, respectively the 0725 and 1125 hours from SYD to CBR have been cancelled.

QF81, the late morning 1115 hours SYD -SIN has been delayed to an expected 1400 hours.

QF2020, the 0820 hours from SYD to ARM did not depart until 0933 arriving 64 minutes late at 1044. There are many delays on these NSW QantasLink routes.

The SYD - WLG flight departed 89 minutes tardy at 1109.
