Qantas Delays/Cancellations

This will delay the 1810 hours redeye, QF24 back overnight to SYD.
Am now at BKK AP waiting for this flight. I got an SMS this morning advising of the late departure. Currently in CX lounge until EK lounge opens at 1600 local time.

Have upgrade request to gate but not looking good.

HVr, simply out of interest, if you are proceeding to MEL in the morning, what time did you book on? )900 hours ex SYD?

VH-VYC on QF452, the 1700 hours MEL - SYD airborne at 1740 is arriving on Saturday 7 September at 1911 hours, 46 minutes tardy.

QF419 SYD-MEL due to depart at 0900 awaiting incoming pilots due soon then they need to do their checks prior to boarding.

Just arrived.

Thank The Lord for small mercies Hvr, as on Thursday 5 and Saturday 7, this flight was cancelled. Mind you, on Thursdays in particular, there's a far better timetabled frequency than on Sunday mornings.

QF43, the 1630 hours afternoon SYD up to DPS has been delayed until an expected 1930 in its departure, so QF44, the redeye back down to SYD on 8 September will be similarly tardy.

Again, the B744 on QF63 is late, with 8 September pushback expected at 1145 hours not 1055. Resultant JNB arrival should be 1735, 35 late, so this will marginally delay QF64, the 1910 hours back overnight to SYD, which often picks up time on a gate-to-gate basis.

Saturday 7's QF64 was off blocks in JNB at 2049 hours, 99 minutes tardy with Sunday 8 afternoon SYD arrival estimated as 1623 hours, 88 late.

In a further delay at the restricted operations SYD, QF107 (1210 hours SYD - PEK) is expected to depart at 1335.

UPDATE: This delay has become a predicted 1530 hours pushback, so PEK arrival should be 0140 hours on Sunday 8, 205 minutes late. QF108, the PEK - SYD redeye normally departs at 2345 hours but Sunday pushback is likely at about 0255 hours, meaning SYD arrival some time around 1600 - 1645...

QF107 (as noted above) departed SYD on Saturday 7 at 1748, 338 late. It arrived PEK at 0318 hours on Sunday 8, 303 minutes behind schedule.

It turned around and formed QF108, pushing back at 0445 (300 minutes late - exactly five hours.) SYD arrival this afternoon should be 1815, 295 late.

This aircraft, A332 VH-EBR is then to form QF43 to DPS three hours late (see above.)

'The Australian' is reporting that A332 VH-EBE on QF772, the Friday 6 September 2019 1050 hours PER - MEL hit a large bird (thought to be an eagle) shortly after takeoff, so it had to return to PER. Unsurprisingly, EBE looks to be still in Perth....

This A332 took off from PER as QF6126 - empty - 'ferry' - flight - at 1513 hours on Saturday 7 September, arriving SYD at 2057 hours. By 1200 'high noon' on Sunday 8, it had not pushed back on any other flight;.

Sunday's SYD - SCL long B744 flight, QF27, is expected to depart 35 minute slate, arriving SCL at 1145 hours same day, 40 down.

On Sunday 8 September, A388 VH-OQB (ex DFW) arrived SYD at 0726 hours, 61 late.

Due I presume to yesterday's strong winds in SYD, QF1 on 7 September had been displaying as departing at 1900 hours. It did so, arriving SIN at 0112 hours on Sunday 8, 182 minutes late. However the second sector to LHR has been delayed overnight until 0025 hours ex SIN on Monday 9, with LHR arrival estimated as 0635 hours, exactly one day (24 hours - or 1440 minutes) tardy.

The Sunday 8 evening QF2 ex LHR has to be delayed overnight as there is no A388 available, but this has yet to publicly display on the QF website.

Later on 8 September, QF620, the 1410 hours afternoon MEL - BNE took off at 1500. B738 VH-XZK should arrive at about 1653, 33 behind. With Richmond having played in Brisbane last night, there would be an imbalance of passenger traffic on this route today: far more travelling south.

QF863 (VH-VXP, the 1320 hours OOL - SYD airborne at 1428) should be at its destination gate at 1539 hours, 49 minutes tardy.

QF 927 CNS to SYD Scheduled for 16:55 departure is now departing at 17:50, assume related to Sydney weather, as hot and sunny here in FNQ.

Of course delay advised 10 mins after i departed Port Douglas, would have preferred an extra hour at resort pool over an extra hour in the Qantas Pub. That said only a handful of people in the QP, comfy seat with a nice view of the runway.

Lynda2475, from what I can see, QF926 ex SYD usually forms QF927 - logical. Today (8 September) 'the 926' os B738 VH-VXR that from FR24 is arriving at gate seven minutes early at 1608 hours.

I don't have access to crew rosters but maybe with all the unpunctual flights yesterday (and to some extent today), some crew have had insufficient mandated rest, and therefore the flight has to be delayed.

Alternatvely, there may be a lower number of flights in and out of SYD due to weather so ATC may have given your flight crew a later 'off blocks' pushback time. I've had this occur a couple of times but I tend to fly domestically off peak whereas Sunday afternoons (in the major east coast capitals) is normally busy, so it's a prime candidate for delays if weather is restricting runway operations. At present both SYD north-south runways look to be in use.

As at 1600 hours on Sunday 8 September, the QF website has changed to advise that the Sunday 8 scheduled 2105 hours QF2 LHR - SIN will depart at 0830 hours on Monday 9, meaning minimum turnaround for the A388 in London. This makes it 685 minutes late.

The SIN intermediate stop is suggested as 0455 to 0620 hours on Tuesday 10 with SYD arrival at 1555 hours in the afternoon, 645 minutes behind the timetable.

On Tuesdays, QF7/8 do not normally operate SYD - DFW or return, so even though two A388s remain under maintenance or refurbishment in AUH/DRS, QF shouldn't have to cancel any scheduled A388 flights or downgrade a return flight such as QF11/QF12 YD - LAX v.v. to a smaller B744.

On Saturday 7 September, QF12 (B789 VH-ZND) departed JFK at 1818 hours, only eight minutes late, arriving LAX at 2048, 12 minutes before time.

QF96 (VH-ZNG) departed for BNE at 2235, 20 minutes late, so in theory if there were spare seats it would have connected from the New York flight, but QF16, the later scheduled B789 from LAX to BNE at 2320 hours was cancelled.

It appears that VH-ZND is still in LAX, so this will throw the B789 schedules out. QF15, the 1020 hours BNE - LAX on Monday 9 September has been cancelled, but the evening departure, QF55 (2035 hours ex the Sunshine State capital) remains operating.

One I missed yesterday was that A333 VH-QPG on the 7 September 1915 hours QF3 SYD - HNL took off at 2055 hours, arriving same day 71 minutes late at 1011. QF4, the 1030 hours, then was airborne from HNL at a badly delayed 1341 hours so Sunday 8 SYD arrival is 1950, 170 minutes tardy.

In yet another 8 September delay, QF2031, the 1720 hours late afternoon ARM down to SYD took off at 1853 with arrival for Q300 VH-SBG at 1954 hours, 74 behind the timetable.

QF545, the 1705 hours BNE down to SYD was in the sky at 1848. An 84 minute late arrival for B738 VH-XZK is the estimate.

With AFFer Lynda2475 on board one hopes, QF927 is approaching SYD and should be at its gate at 2028, 38 late. It is VH_VXR as suggested. If she knows if the delay was due to an ATC amended departure time (for slot purposes in SYD), she might be kind enough to fill us in.

In further, QF459 MEL-SYD, the 18 00 hours (A332 VH-EBN) is expected to arrive at 20 40, 75 min behind.
QF496 MEL-SYD, the 17 45 hours service (B738 VH-VYA) is due to arrive at 20 49, 99 min tardy.
QF694 ADL-MEL (B738 VH-XZG) has a suggested arrival at 21 14, 59 behind.
QF102 NAN-SYD (B738 VH-VZV) has a revised arrival at 20 53, 53 min late.
