Qantas Delays/Cancellations

With its larger galley and appropriate crew rest facilities, A332 VH-EBL is most often on QF107/108 SYD - PEK return.

However on Thursday 12 July it arrived in SYD (ex HKG) on QF118 at 1124, 34 late and turned around to form QF19, the 1210 SYD - MNL that took off at 1402 hours. Arrival should be at 2008 hours, 98 late.

Yesterday QF19 was similarly late (A332 VH-EBM) and approaching MNL became enmeshed in the usual holding pattern so it arrived at 2009 and then did not take off as QF20 until 2139, with SYD arrival this morning at 0716 hours, 66 late. This morning EBM was then used on QF575, the 0825 hours trancon that took off at 0939 (exactly 12 hours since it did the same in MNL) with PER arrival estimated at 1220 hours, 50 late.

In more on Thursday 12 July 2018, QF453 (1700 hours SYD down to MEL that was in the sky at 1825 with B738 VH-XZJ) is arriving 63 minutes behind time at 1938 hours. VH-VYB on the 1730 hours took off at 1830 with MEL arrival suggested as 1942, 37 late.

QF459, the scheduled 1800 SYD - MEL is not greatly different, having become airborne at 1858 hours. A332 VH-EBJ should arrive at about 2009 hours which would be 34 late.

Friday 13 July has seen QF404, the 0630 hours MEL to SYD (B738 VH-VZV) not depart until 0732, but promptly taking off at 0732. Arrival should be at 0851, 56 late. QF408, the 07090 hours northbound is ahead of it and arriving at 0829, four late with A332 VH-EBN.

QF775, the 0630 hours from MEL across to PER pushed back at 0705 with A332 VH-EBE in the air at 0908 hours, 28 minutes late. It is anticipated to arrive 50 minutes tardy at 0930 hours.

The 0640 hours MEL - ADL was not off blocks until 0745. QF671 has B738 VH-VYJ and should arrive at 0833, 63 minutes behind schedule.

Way further north, Q400 VH-QOD on QF2509, the 0650 hours early morning from MKY down to BNE departed at 0736 so it ought be at its destination at roughly 0906 hours, 36 late.

Qf94 is still sitting on the deck and just advised 11am is now the new time for departure. Maintenance issue. Interestingly they are giving out food vouchers for passengers.
Edit. No way we will leave at 11am but no further notifications from the lounge.
Edit. Board now shows boarding at 11.20.
Edit. Advised we are now waiting to refuel. ETD 12 noon.

QF63, the Friday 13 July 1055 hours SYD - JNB has been altered to depart at 1150, meaning arrival at 1745, 45 late. This will delay tonight's QF64 back overnight to SYD.

FlyboyAl, do you mean 'QF93', the Friday 13 scheduled 0900 hours MEL - LAX. The QF website (not as quick to update as your great on the spot info) says '1200 high noon' as the revised departure, as you suggest at bottom of your edited post. Enjoy it (hoping you get underway and it's not cancelled due to crew hours.

How much was the food voucher? $15?

In a further 13 July delay, QF19, the 1210 hours SYD - MNL is expected to depart at 1435. This flight has been late a few times in the last fortnight. May reflect what has been an inoperable A332 at HKG as Flyerqf informed us of.

QF27 (1235 hours B744 SYD - SCL, a long flight) should depart an hour late.

Oops. Sorry wrong number!
We are now on board but while they fixed the fuel transfer valve it was not possible to refuel . So are now filling up and hooe to go soon. Dont know on the food vouchers as we went back to the lounge.

My wife tells me they were $15

Edit. 12.15 and still refueling!

Now 12.40 and fuel truck just drove away. Hopefully pushing back soon.

Hooray. Pushback 12.45. Due into lax about 9am we were told.

Continuing with Friday 13 July, QF27, although indicated above as likely to push back at 1335, an hour late, did not do so until 1506 in SYD. SCL arrival is predicted as 1215 hours, 65 late.

QF93, the 0900 hours MEL - LAX should arrive in LAX at 0925, three hours late, same day.

However QF63, the 1055 SYD - JNB that departed on the dot at 1200 'high noon' is doing a little better than had been forecast, as arrival should be at 1736, 36 late.

QF7 was 21 minutes late at 1256 off its SYD blocks: arrival is predicted for 1330 same day, half an hour behind.

'The 19' is worse than had been suggested. Push back was at 1512 hours, 182 late with arrival tonight at a suggested 2105 hours, 155 minutes behind the schedule. QF20 should be able to depart at around 2220 hours if these times stick and all goes well, which would be 140 late.

Further to 13 July 2018 delays, QF483, the afternoon 1515 hours SYD down to MEL with B738 VH-VXP was airborne at 1554, about 25 minutes late. Arrival is shortly at 1721 hours, 31 late.

The 1235 hours from PER across to MEL, QF476 has A332 VH-EBQ. It did not become airborne until 1418 so the result is a predicted arrival 86 late at 1931 hours.

Sigh... number 2 son needs some training - he's on this flight and apart from sending us a photo of his feet (he was upgraded to J) in 3F, he failed to give any updates on the delay. Mrs C will need to have words :( with him :)!

Also on Friday 13 July 2018, QF481, the early evening 1910 hours MEL - PER took off at 2057. A332 VH-EBQ should arrive at 2244 hours, 84 minutes behind the timetable.

Not sure if it was mentioned but last night QF28 diverted to CBR - aircraft was VH-OJU.

Slightly newsworthy given CBR recent press that they didn’t want to take QF diversions.

On Friday 13 July, there was congestion in MNL so the delayed QF19 (see above) arrived at 2145, 195 late. QF20 is showing as departing at 2210 but 2300 would be more realistic.

Saturday 14 July sees QF20, the MNL - SYD that took off at 2353 hours on Friday 13 arriving at 0853 hours, 163 minutes late with A332 VH-EBN.

Thanks Flyerqf.

I had missed the article (unlike Flyerqf who never misses a beat), but at the risk of briefly going off topic, given it's very interesting (a bit like 12 noon at the OK Corral, here it is...

Qantas boss likens Canberra Airport to Somali pirates after claiming plane was 'ransomed'
A most interesting article. Sounds like there is more to the story.

CBR airports is suggesting that diversions by QF aircraft are endangering the diversions of other aircraft?. I don’t get it.

Why would a 747 ex SYD divert to CBR rather than return to SYD?.

I don’t think it was ex SYD, the flight was heading to SYD and then diverted to CBR.

Not sure what’s happened to cause this as all A333 are allocated today but QPF which was scheduled to operate QF117 had a late change and is now taking QF19 to MNL.

As a result it looks like QPB currently enroute from PER to MEL and was due to operate QF442 MEL to SYD will instead ferry up to SYD and 442 is cancelled. Presumably to speed up the turnaround and QF117 is now due to depart at 5pm.

A332 VH-EBN that was very late into SYD on Saturday 14 July on QF20 ex MNL then formed QF81, the 1015 hours SYD - SIN that took off at 1100. Arrival should be 37 late at 1727 hours.
