Qantas Delays/Cancellations

.....but as it is allegedly using the same gate as the arriving QF12, this delay may well be extended to at least 2000 hours tomorrow night.

Gates change. It's not unusual to be allocated a new one after you land. Yesterday we were sent on a lap of one of the Dubai terminals, as we waited for a 777 to vacate the gate.

Hi Melbournian1 why did the Qantas link flight from Brisbane fly to Mackay via Townsville tonight rather odd routing.

Bundy Bear, I know not, but for the benefit of others I assume you are referring to the appropriately numbered for Queensland (given Town of 1770) QF1770 that is apparently running a little over two hours late tonight and has indeed diverted to TSV. Aircraft is B717 VH-YQY. It is allegedly to arrive in MKY at about 2245 this evening.

Sunday 9 April's QF16 departed LAX at 2357 hours, 37 minutes late for a predicted Tuesday 11 arrival in BNE of 0700, 50 minutes behind the schedule.

The delayed Sunday 9 April 2017 QF12 departed LAX at 1107 on Monday 10; arrival in SYD on Tuesday 11 is predicted at 1835 tonight, 12 hours and 15 minutes late.

The arrival gate for QF12 and the departure gate for this afternoon's scheduled QF1 have both been altered from gate 24 to gate 8, but QF continues to show QF1 departing at 1815, supposedly 20 minutes prior to the arrival of the later than predicted QF12. We will see later if this is merely a case of QF not having updated the predicted QF1 departure should QF12 be forming QF1.

The Tuesday 11 April delay for the 1550 hours QF1 ex SYD has now extended to a predicted 2030 hours departure tonight, four hours and 40 minutes late, which confirms that it will be formed by the delayed QF12 that should come in at around 1835 tonight. Predicated upon some gains in gate-to-gate times and a reduced time on the ground in DXB, QF suggests that eventual LHR arrival will be three hours 35 minutes late at 1030 on Wednesday 12's morning.

The silver lining to this delay is that unlike some others that 'develop', it has been known many hours in advance, enabling later sign-on times for QF staff. Hopefully this minimises the chances of a crew exceeding permitted hours that can lead, unfortunately, on occasion to long distance flights being cancelled and rescheduled for 12 hours or beyond that.

While some business and even leisure passengers may be annoyed at the delay if they have air or surface connections, or London/ European meetings or personal events to attend, another silver lining is that those with lounge access can enjoy a complimentary dinner airside prior to boarding, and then if so inclined a second helping once at cruise.

The relatively frequent poor timekeeping of QF's LHR flights must annoy LHR airport management as per a previous requirement for QF's manager to show cause why so many of its LHR flights are delayed.

Jut to complete the story though by now its historical

VH-OQF QF94 (7 april arriving over the australian continent on 9 April) did a splash and dash in Sydney and on the SYD-MEL leg was struck by lightning
It operated QF93D about 24hrs late

Earlier today (Tuesday 11 April), QF127, the first of two QFs to HKG for the day departed at 1108, 68 late with arrival suggested as 1810, 50 minutes behind.

The more than 12 hour late QF12 into SYD on Tuesday 12 April (A388 VH-OQF) was predicted by QF to land at 1840 but it has lost a little further time, overflying the airport from
the west at 1840 and then being likely to land from the north at around 1849 after some impressive fancy footwork.

By the time it gets to the terminal (maybe between 1855 and 1900 hours), the chances of a 2030 hours departure look slim: 2100 might be more realistic, 310 minutes late. This then converts into at least four hours late into LHR on Wednesday morning, 12 April.

In a new delay, QF12 ex LAX on Monday 10 April (the 2230 hours) has been altered to depart at 1100 on Tuesday 11 April, presumably due to the crew needing minimum mandated rest. Wednesday 13 April SYD arrival is estimated at 1835, the same as today's late arrival.

These 12 hour delays may be OK at a pinch for 'higher status' passengers who, if seats are available, may be transferred to QF94 or QF16 (to MEL or BNE respectively) and then on a domestic flight to SYD, but pity the no status leisure mum travelling with a child, or elderly grandparents. Sure, they may receive an overnight hotel room and meals, but many might prefer to be at their destination.

This is the first instance I can recall of QF12 being badly late on two consecutive flights.

There is yet to be publicly displaying information as to whether QF1, 7 or 11 will be delayed in departing SYD tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday 12) due to QF12's more than 12 hour late predicted arrival.

Tuesday 11 April's QF1 (VH-OQF) is now indicated as a 2100 hours departure tonight from SYD for DXB and LHR, which was commonsense as noted above.

UPDATE: QF1 departed SYD at 2112 hours. DXB arrival on Wednesday 12 is estimated at 0530 hours, five hours and five minutes late, so departure at 0600 is impossible.

The 1330 hours from LHR on Wednesday 12 April, QF10, may just escape being delayed if QF1 can make it in to the British capital by 1130.

The LAX - MEL QF94 on the late evening of Monday 10 departed 53 minutes late at 2303; arrival on Wednesday 12 is predicted as 0730, 35 late, meaning a probable slightly late delay for the returning QF93 from MEL to LAX.

The B744 on QF16 departed from LAX at 0040 hours on Tuesday 11, with Wednesday 12 BNE arrival predicted as 0725, 75 minutes tardy.

QF10 on Tuesday 11 April is delayed an expected half an hour to 1400 hours in its LHR departure.

The scheduled 2230 hours Monday 10 April QF12 departed LAX at 1112 on Tuesday 11, so arrival tonight (Wednesday 12) should be at 1845 hours in SYD.

QF1, 7 and 11 today ex SYD are all showing as expected on time departures.

The delayed QF1 that departed SYD at 2112 last night (Tuesday 11) is now anticipated to depart DXB at 0650 hours, 280 minutes tardy after a shortened 80 minute stay on the ground - which has been occasionally achieved in the past, but the more usual is a minimum of 90 minutes - with LHR arrival at 1120, 260 minutes late. If this holds true, QF10 should (fingers crossed) be able to depart LHR on time at 1330 this afternoon local time. Monday's QF10 departed LHR around half an hour late and was only a few minutes late into DXB, so a small delay is manageable.

On Wednesday 12 April, QF11 from SYD departed at 1049, 59 minutes late with same day LAX arrival suggested as half an hour behind at 0700.

The delayed QF1 arrived DXB at about 0546 (321 minutes tardy) on 12 April, departing for LHR at 0752, 342 minutes late. LHR arrival is predicted at 1235 hours, 340 late and unusually far less punctual than 'the 9' that on Wednesday should arrive LHR 15 minutes early at 1355 hours, not far behind QF1.

QF10 on Wednesday 12 is predicted to depart at 1400 but this is a tad optimistic: 1430 (an hour behind) might be more likely to be the case.

A388 VH-OQA on the Wednesday 12 QF1 from SYD departed 34 minutes late at 1624 but expeditiously became airborne at 1637. It is predicted to arrive in DXB at 0035, only 10 minutes behind schedule.

On the MEL - SYD route, southbound QF449 (B738 VH-VZN, the 1630 hours scheduled departure that took off at 1755 should arrive 59 late at 1904 on Wednesday 12 April.

Also on Wednesday 12 April, QF1 landed at LHR at 1234 local time. For the flight back to DXB and then on to MEL, QF10 might be off blocks at around the 1430 hours mark if all goes well.

UPDATE: QF has amended the suggested departure time of QF1 from 1400 to 1430 hours. One did not need to be Einstein to figure that out. Sometimes the computer software has a 'too rosy' view of turnaround times.

QF24, the Wednesday 12 April 1810 hours BKK - SYD departed at 1845 with Holy Thursday (13 April) arrival estimated at 0705, 35 late.

The delayed Wednesday 12 April 2017 QF10 did not depart LHR until 1456 hours, 86 minutes late, arriving at DXB at 0040 on Thursday 13, 65 minutes late. It departed at 0212 with MEL arrival tonight suggested as 2115 hours, 20 minutes late.

On Thursday 13 April, QF81 (1025 hours SYD - SIN) departed 29 minutes late with arrival predicted at 1730, 40 minutes behind.

QF23 departed SYD at 1011, 21 minutes late with arrival forecast for 1715, 35 minutes tardy.

QF10 (VH-OQF) from DXB to SYD on Thursday 13 April is still showing as having departed DXB at 0212 but apparently it did not take off until 0406, so tonight's MEL arrival has become about 2250, an hour and 55 minutes late.

I cannot see on FR24 or FlightAware that the aircraft turned back to its gate. Perhaps milehighclub can enlighten us as to the delay? Minor repairs, weather, a sick passenger or just an extremely busy DXB?

This will see QF9 departing a couple of hours late, in the very small hours of Good Friday 14 April 2017.

Wednesday 12 April's QF12 departed LAX at 2249 hours, 19 late; on Friday 14, SYD arrival is predicted to be 0650 hours, half an hour behind. QF16 for BNE departed the home of movie making at 0019 this morning (Thursday 13), 59 minutes late with Friday 14 arrival suggested as 0715, 65 late.

The Thursday 13 April QF9 (A388 VH-OQF) departed MEL at 0052 on Good Friday (14 April) due to QF10's late arrival as noted above. For QF9, the DXB stop is estimated at 0840 hours (85 minutes late) to 1005 hours (an hour late) with LHR arrival predicted at 1445, 35 late.

Wednesday 12's QF74 departed SFO 11 minutes late at 2336; Friday 14 arrival is likely at 0755, 33 minutes tardy for this B744.

In further on Good Friday (14 April 2017), QF23, the 0950 hours SYD - BKK (A333 VH-QPI) was not airborne until 1103, so arrival is expected at 1720, 40 minutes late.

Although Thursday 13 April's QF16 B744 only departed LAX 13 minutes late at 2333 hours, its Saturday 15 arrival is not expected until 0700 hours, 50 minutes behind schedule.

The 14 April Good Friday QF2 from LHR has been delayed in its departure from the usual 2135 hours to a predicted 2305, meaning expected DXB arrival today (Easter Saturday, 15 April) at 0845, 75 minutes late.
