Qantas Delays/Cancellations

They overnight in NYC.
Tech and cabin crew will have different slip times. but i don't think they will be short.
Re cabin crew:
There is a B744 crew in NYC now who get an extra day in NYC and will operate Monday's transcontinental QF12.
There is also currently a crew in LAX who will not be operating the cancelled Sunday transcont QF11/12, get an extra day in LAX and will therefore operate Monday's transcont QF11.
There will be a B744 crew in LAX who operated the Saturday's transcont QF12 who will operate Sunday's QF16.

Whilst it could play out that way, it's more likely that the crew who missed their NYC sector would be turned back towards Oz. Sliding them to the right means that they displace yet another crew, and it would continue ad infinitum. I expect they'll slot in westbound in place of the crew stuck in NYC.

There are fairly strong winds in MEL mid evening on Sunday 10 July. QF477, the 1945 hours SYD - MEL took off at 2029 and should arrive about 33 late at 2153, aircraft being B738 VH-VZO.

Don't the crew who operate QF11 LAX-JFK turnaround to operate QF12 back to LAX?

The pilots have always slipped in NYC. The cabin crew used to turn around, but any delays ran the risk of running them out of hours. I think they now slip.

The Monday 11 July arrival of QF94 in MEL (ex LAX on Saturday 9) has been delayed by about 76 minutes to 0816. VH-OQF is the A388. QF93 is forecast to depart half an hour late at 0945, but given likely turnaround times this may end up more like 1000 if all goes to plan.

QF12 is an estimated 93 minutes late ex LAX into SYD, arriving at 0803. QF15 was 81 minutes late ex LAX into BNE, arriving at 0726 hours.

The 0620 hours QF1582 (HBA - SYD) was slow to wake up this morning with an 0738 take off; arrival of B717 VH-YQT should be at around 0918 hours, 68 minutes late. The 0920 hours from SYD back down to HBA, QF1583, is showing as instead departing at 0940 but again, this is a little optimistic with a pushback of somewhere between 0950 and 1005.
more realistic.

QF409 (0700 SYD down to MEL, A332 VH-EBP) took off at 0727 and thanks to a holding pattern over Mt Buller (Vic.) should arrive at about 0913 hours, 38 minutes behind time. QF407, the 0715 hours southbound is about 36 minutes late for an 0926 hours arrival: aircraft is B738 VH-VXE.

QF23, the 0950 SYD - BKK departed at 1035 with arrival suggested as 1750, 70 minutes late, delaying QF24, the redeye back to SYD tonight.

While QF81 (1020 hours SYD - SIN) was only 14 minutes late departing at 1034 on 11 July, it is forecast to arrive at 1730, 45 minutes tardy. The 1005 to HKG was also 14 minutes late departing from SYD (QF127) but should be half an hour late arriving at 1750 late this afternoon HKG time.

QF422 (1000 MEL to SYD operated by normally QFi VH-QPE) took off at 1103 and is arriving at roughly 1210, 45 minutes late. It is forming the 1350 hours from the international terminal, QF41, SYD to CGK. This is still showing as an on time departure but considering that the plane has to unload passengers, luggage, freight, mail and catering at QFd and then make its way or be towed over to the international terminal to receive all its goodies for the trip to SE Asia, it will be surprising if it can push back on time at 1350.

The delayed Monday 11 July 2016 QF11 ended up departing from MEL at 1135 - 140 minutes tardy - with same day LAX arrival suggested as 0825, 110 late.

The less than daily B744 on QF95 departed from MEL at 1237, 47 minutes late, but arrival is only predicted as 15 minutes behind time at 0915.

QF1535, the lunchtime 1215 CBR down to MEL took off at 1301. B717 VH-YQX should arrive at about 1357 hours, 32 minutes late.

As a general rule the pattern for JFK is: BNE-LAX (50) LAX-JFK (24) JFK-LAX (24) LAX-BNE and is an 8 day trip.

There are of course variations at times due to crew numbers etc but this is how those flights are crewed for the most part. The AKL base crew (when on it which is quite regularly) usually operate to/from BNE as well on the 737.

milehighclub, many thanks for the usual terrific information: just to make it clear to other members, I assume that (50) refers to '50 hours' being spent in Los Angeles between the two flights?

QF12 on Sunday 10 July departed from LAX 59 minutes late at 2329 hours but on Tuesday 12 is expected into SYD terminal only 20 minutes behind at 0650, bright and early in the morning.

There may be a technical or staffing problem with QF94, the 2215 hours Sunday LAX - MEL as a revised departure time of 0045 hours on Monday 11 July is publicly displayed. As I write this it is 0030 in LAX. An 0045 departure is forecast to result in a Tuesday 12 July arrival at 0900, two hours late meaning a second consecutive day of unpunctuality for QF93 that this morning did not depart until 1135 in lieu of the timetabled at this time of year 0915 hours. In turn this results in missed connections at LAX for many passengers. The B744 that comes in to LAX ex BNE is due to depart from LAX as QF11 for JFK at 0820 so it will be interesting to see if it is held: I am guessing not (assuming that it arrives fairly punctually ex BNE).

The predicted arrival delay of QF12 on Tuesday 12 Jul;y has blown out from 20 minutes as above to about 84 minutes, with it likely to be at the SYD terminal (ex LAX) at 0754. Aircraft is A388 VH-OQD.

The normally A333-operated QF23 is expected to depart from SYD at 1140 instead of 0950 for BKK.

QF415 delayed out of SYD. Doors closed at 0753 but "congestion on taxiway" meant sitting at gate past scheduled departure time. Long taxi from gate 4 to southern end for take off to the north.

Landed in MEL at 0959 (24 min late). Anything less than 30 minutes is not a big issue to me. Very windy with winds from NNW, windsock horizontal and trees blustering. A330 engines cycling between low and high many times as auto or human pilot maintained the descent profile. A bit turbulent but not roller coaster stuff.

One kid tried to go to bathroom during approach. CSM said "please sit down" and he promptly vomited in the aisle.

Pilot mentioned that ATC restricted speed to "minimum" in transit.

VH-OQC operating QF93 is still being refuelled in MEL. Crew has just boarded the aircraft @1115hrs.

No major delays otherwise at MEL...

Addit: Boarding has commenced at 1128hrs for QF93 while mine (QF35) slight late passed QF93 as both was leaving the ramp.

QF93 late still being refuelled

Saw QF94 turn and line up to land at MEL while i was passing over wgb around 930am today.

Annoyed mrsdoc when i pointed it out ("that'll be QF94") and that it was ~ 2-2.5 hours late. I believe the word "rainman" was used....

It was impressive given the drift ("crab") being held with the gusty wind in Melbourne today.

On a windy and chilly winter's day in MEL, Tuesday 12 July, QF703 (1315 hours ex CNS) took off at 1411 so arrival in the southern capital should be at 1715, 40 minutes behind schedule for B738 VH-XZP.

As previously discussed, QF7 (1300 hours SYD - DFW) is normally extremely punctual but on 12 July A388 VH-OJQ was in the sky at a very late 1631 hours, leading to a forecast same day arrival of 1625, two hours and 50 minutes behind time.

QF93 (0915 hours MEL - LAX) pushed back at 1157 with arrival to be 0850 compared with the timetabled 0635. Competitor UA often manages to depart pretty punctually but unfortunately at times QF93 can suffer from a delayed QF94 arrival, although as AFF meber Quickstatus reminded us quite a few posts above QF can depart 94 on time ex LAX and hold QF12 (A388 LAX - SYD) should QF12 (B744 JFK - LAX) be tardy.

The 1410 hours DPO - MEL, QF2054, was cancelled.

Jetconnect-operated QF172 from WLG to MEL (B738 ZK-ZQA) will be about 45 minutes late with arrival at 1945 hours.

QF2117 (1715 CFS down to SYD, Q300 VH-TQZ) took off at 1812; arrival is suggested as 51 minutes behind at 1936.

The 1855 hours BNE - SYD is expected to arrive about 38 minutes late at 2108 with B738 VH-VXB.

QF1525 (1930 hours SYD to CBR, B717 VH-YQV) was airborne at 2015 for an expected 2057 hours arrival in the national capital, 27 minutes tardy.

Wednesday 13 July sees QF512, the 0905 hours from SYD up to BNE not having been airborne until 1009. B738 VH-VYH should arrive at about 1123, 48 minutes behind schedule.

QF419, the 0900 SYD - MEL took off at 0955 with arrival suggested as 46 minutes late at 1121. Aircraft is B738 VH-VYE.

The 0900 hours MEL up to CBR, QF814, took off at 1000. It should be at the terminal at 1045, 40 minutes tardy with VH-VYF the ubiquitous B738.

Interesting observation yesterday with QF93 and QF35.

One was very late and the other slight so
However it seems that the last despatch task was to refuel. While refuelling the aerobridges were still connected and this is a normal safety precaution. On QF35 at least this seemed the last task as the cargo doors were reported closed by the captain and we were waiting for refuelling to be completed.

A question from an uninformed position: could not the refuelling take place earlier in the despatch and aid in the ontime departure? Perhaps final weight and fuel requirements are not known until just before departure. I understand that on long and ultra long haul flights the weight might have to be adjusted - fuel or freight...

Maybe a pilot can comment here.

It was impressive given the drift ("crab") being held with the gusty wind in Melbourne today.

A rough estimate of drift angle.... Divide the crosswind component by the groundspeed in nautical miles/min. So 30 knots of crosswind, and 140 knot g/s ---- 30/2.33 so roughly 13º.

QF63, the 1050 hours B744 from SYD to South Africa's JNB on Wednesday 13 July departed 107 minutes late at 1237. Arrival is expected same day at 1905, 115 minutes tardy, thus delaying tonight's returning QF64 back to SYD.

QF19 (1210 SYD up to MNL) was off blocks at 1427 (137 minutes late), with arrival suggested as 2040, 130 minutes later than ought be the case.

Earlier, QF23 departed 40 minutes behind time at 1030 from SYD for BKK; arrival should be 95 minutes late at 1815, a significant loss of time point-to-point. QF129, the 0935 hours from SYD to PVG departed at 1007 with on blocks time in the mainland Chinese commercial capital at about 1920, 50 minutes late.

QF141, the shorthaul from SYD to AKL departed 34 minutes late at 0909 hours, arriving at 1413, 33 minutes late. QF143, the following QF flight on that route departed 108 minutes behind time at 1143 with arrival at 1645 hours, 105 minutes late. QF145 departed 73 minutes late at 1343; if arrival occurs at 1825 as estimated, it will be 50 minutes late.

QF127, the first of the QF day from SYD to HKG departed only 15 minutes late at 1020 but is forecast to be 80 minutes late, arriving at 2040 hours tonight. The following flight, QF117 is more badly affected with its 1215 hours timetabled departure having become 1413 - 118 minutes tardy - and therefore arrival suggested as 2210, 150 minutes late.

QF81, the 1020 hours SYD up to SIN departed 80 minutes late at 1140 with arrival forecast for 1850, 130 minutes late.

Eastbound QF11, the 0950 hours from SYD to LAX was off blocks at 1031, 41 minutes late and should reach the movie haven at 0705, 35 minutes late.

QF27 (B744 at 1230 hours SYD - SCL) departed for its very lengthy trip at 1441 - 131 minutes late - and is suggested as reaching SCL at 1255, 105 minutes late, thereby delaying this afternoon's QF28 back to SYD.

The B744-operated longhaul from SYD to SFO is timetabled to push back at 1300 but on 13 July this occurred at 1445 for a predicted same day arrival at 1015, 45 minutes late.

Passengers and crew on QF7 from SYD to DFW are very used to pushing back on time but today that usual 1300 hours event was deferred until 1350. Arrival is suggested as 70 minutes late at 1445 which again is quite unusual for what most be one of QF's more punctual A388-operated flights.

Flagship QF1 is estimated to depart this afternoon at 1645 instead of the timetabled 1550 but DXB arrival should hopefully be at or close to time.

QF10 on Tuesday 12 July departed LHR a minute early at 1304, arriving DXB at 2247, 33 minutes early, again showing what can be a very generous timetable since QF slowed these flights in October 2015. However QF10 spent overtime at the intermediate stop, departing from DXB on Wednesday 13 July at 0224, 49 minutes late. Arrival tonight will be at 2150, 55 minutes late but as the Tuesday QF9 returning from MEL to DXB picked up 44 minutes on the schedule, tonight's QF9 should only be marginally late into DXB on Thursday 14 July, fingers crossed.

Commented on in the other thread.

Also on Wednesday 13 July 2016, the 1350 hours SYD to CGK, QF41 (A332 VH-EBN) took off at 1617. Arrival should be about two hours and 55 minutes late at 2130, delaying the returning redeye QF42. Both QF41 and QF42 have good punctuality records: it is fairly rare to observe them running more than half an hour late.

QF1, the 1550 hours to DXB and LHR, took off at 1734 and with VH-OQA as its A388 should arrive DXB at around the 0130 hours (Thursday 14) mark, 65 minutes late.

Large numbers of flights have been one to two hours late today ex SYD: the challenging east coast weather may have led to single runway operations for at least some of the day: a westerly has been in evidence for much of the day.
