My Darwin to Singapore QF flight for June has been canned... Not sure if they're cancelling the whole route.
Edict from Head Office is that only essential travel will be approved and two up approval will be required. While we are only a $120m company, multiply that by all mid size organisations and you’ll start to see some significant downturns. The travel budget has been cut to offset the increase in the fleet budget required. While many businessmen and women have to travel domestically, the NAB business survey has just recorded its lowest ever confidence rating (i.e. what business thinks of its prospects) since the 1989 survey inception.
I'm not suggesting every 'in person' meeting will be moved online via Microsoft Teams/Zoom and so on, but some more may be.
If they still exist, probably wise on high frequency routes like MEL-SYD-MEL to avoid booking on flights that leave at 15, 45 or other minutes past the hour that aren't '00' or '30' as the latter two always seem to fill quickest and hence are the most viable.
My ticketed flight MEL-CGK in J is still showing as active.I was looking at booking QF from MEL-CGK in May but it seems like the flights I was planning to book have disappeared.
So are ours in MayMy ticketed flight MEL-CGK in J is still showing as active.
You would be surprised how much some companies spend by having certain people travelling around the place just to showcase their ego.
It just so happens that my flight is on a Friday. Lucky me? I do worry about getting back to Oz though. So are ours in May
I’ve just checked and it appears MEL-CGK has been cut to 3 per week. Only operating on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
29th?It just so happens that my flight is on a Friday. Lucky me? I do worry about getting back to Oz though.
I hope this is just a short term drop in demand and not causing permanent change in travel demand after COVID.My employer (large asx) is pushing the less travel card. No Policy as such, just continued comments around waste and is the trip even worth it, these comments came from the CEO on a recent town hall. You would be surprised how much some companies spend by having certain people travelling around the place just to showcase their ego. I do can without those visits from these people to my office!

Most likely going to Australia via Sydney. It just so happens that my flight is on a Friday. Lucky me? I do worry about getting back to Oz though.

I hope just the opposite.I hope this is just a short term drop in demand and not causing permanent change in travel demand after COVID.
If the opposite does happen, I would be concerned about massive cuts in flights, and there will lead to massive job losses.I hope just the opposite.
Our points are pretty useless aready.then our points will become useless again.
Yes agree on that. We have CBR-BNE (both direct and via SYD) and CBR- MEL in May and June and feel the same way.I have a few flights between SYD/MEL/ADL in May. No email or other notifications yet that they've been changed, fingers crossed these will mostly be advance notice cancellations and it won't be last minute consolidations close to departure date.
This has been going on for quite a long time. We were forced onto a Dash-8 MEL CBR on a Saturday mid-November last year. Annoying as it was originally supposed to be an A220 when we booked. CBR gets a lot of Dash-8s already, so this is a sad new trend.I notice increased use of Dash 8 on the CBR - MEL route - was looking for May and on a Saturday all direct flights are using them - so no J seating at all. There are three jets scheduled back on the Sunday though..
but it's a bit surprising it hasn't announced redundancies or incentives to retire/resign.
A five per cent cut to domestic flying is significant.
Depends how often you have to fly on oneNah.....gotta love a Dash 8..View attachment 503806
