How do you stop male crew from wearing strong aftershave, happened to me on a flight from Perth the other day. The aftershave was so strong it made me sick. Unfortunately I sat near the exit row in the front of cattle, and I couldn't get away from it, the plane was full. This guy (and I use that term loosely) was obviously a show pony, I also noticed he didn't like to get his hands dirty, the female crew did most of the work, he just lurked around and tried to look pretty. I only noticed because I was quite resentful of the smell. He was obviously handsome and gay not that I thought he was pretty, quite rude and up himself.

Simple answer, I guess you don't stop them wearing their aftershave.

Time to close this thread before it gets out of hand?

thommo I think you might be a tad out of line there stereotyping that crew member so quickly!

Are you 100% sure he was a show pony? No possibility he was a school pony? A novelty pony? (The horse people on the board will understand)

I've encountered strong aftershave before, but never one that made me sick. I suspect that is highly unusual. Have you thought about consulting a doctor ?

If it's a genuine concern, contact QF and give them the relevant details.
I had my first flying lesson a few months ago and clearly the pilot hadn't showered that morning so it filled the Cessna 152's (not particularly large) cabin with an unpleasant aroma. I'd go for too much aftershave over too much BO any day.

i suspect the OP has way more 'issues' than the F/A
gotta love the 'show poney' ect = 'gay'
dare i assume that someone called 'thommo' is a bogan!!! :D just highlighting the OPs stereotypical post

a big shout out to the F/As that have to tolerate various 'smells' (and other stuff) from hundreds of passengers a day

I've encountered PLENTY more obviously 'straight' men rocking offensive cologne than 'show ponies'

Seriously.. Not even sure how to constructively respond to this...I understand that some people don't like certain scents but the personal insults, stereotypes and borderline homophobia is pretty uncalled for.

this is my last post on this 'topic'......as a (past)F/A of over 20yrs...other F/As, and i had to cover up/compensate.. due to the 'inactions'/'actions'/'behaviour' of many STRAIGHT male F/As.... happy flying 'thommo'

At what point does free speech become offensive?

The immediate calls to close this thread are probably wise and based on prior experience of similar discussions that quickly descend into chaotic name calling.

But I think members should be free to post what they like (within the law) and if, in doing so shows them up to be bigoted, racist, sexist, etc. then they will be shown to be so in a public forum. Ala, Pauline Hanson was allowed to speak her mind and so people saw the true colors.

Closing threads at the first sign of controversy would devalue this forum. Better to let such threads simply disappear into the archives.

So if i keep posting it wont go to the archives?

How long before it disappears?
