With the last point - the sub-leasing of 2 of their 7 long term leased buildings for potentially the full remaining (12 yr) term suggests there are between 1,200 & 1,800 Mascot based 'office dwelling' staff to get bad news this year. Represents 30% of total floorspace BUT closer to 45% of 'pleb' space.
Whilst I don’t know the actual amount, quite a lot of the Sydney real estate was devoid of staff, even in my time.

I’d expect that you could get rid of 100% of the aircraft and operational people, and HQ wouldn’t notice. Alternatively, you could get rid of 90% of HQ, and ops would run much more smoothly.

So everything is staying where it is. Mascot to stay HQ, Jetstar remains in MEL and engineering in BNE. There are some further details but that is the crux of it.

Well played AJ. Terrific job for QF shareholders.

Qantas will keep its head office in Sydney and its budget arm Jetstar based in Melbourne after extracting tax waivers and other subsidies from governments desperate to keep jobs in their states.....

Federal Trade and Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham last year said Qantas was engaged in “corporate welfare-seeking” by trying to auction off where it based its business, which was a “blatant attempt to extract taxpayer dollars from the states and territories”....

For some reason, I always envision Virgin and Qantas when making my monthly payroll tax payment to the QLD Office of State Revenue 🥲

This is basically Alliance replacing the 5 or so FIFO fleet F100 and F70 fleet with E190 aircraft and getting a new set of tax breaks and "commercial in confidence" state subsidies, courtesy of the SA taxpayer. Will probably look at similar arrangements with state governments when the Alliance F100/F70 fleet in BNE and PER chages over to E190.
True but increased frequency of flights to DRW, ASP and especially CBR can’t be a bad thing and if it creates a few jobs that’s great aswell.
From my POV anything that increases or improves freight capacity or frequency is great for me 👍
