Hi All,
Been a long time between posts. Curiosity question, I only earned 135 SC’s this year. Anniversary date was yesterday and I was expecting to be dropped back to Gold. Logged in and see I’ve retained platinum. I know there used to be a 3 year average unwritten rule but given my travel was so light this year I don’t think I would’ve met that threshold...
Anyone else in the same boat today?

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The CL's will be interested to hear that :p

and yes the three year comp thing seems to have been gone for quite some time with the odd anecdotal but unverifiable exemption - the points offers are far more the norm.

tbh it makes sense for QF - they make you pay for it, reduce points liability and guage how much you "want it" by your willingness to pony up for it rather than giving the candy for free.

things that create challenges to the “free candy”

Having gotten the freebie, how many people actually re-qualify on paid flights?

burning points provides no contribution towards status retention... I know I had figured I may as well burn points with status rather than buy fares to keep status.

I suspect the conversion rate of freebies to PCV saw a lot of breakage so may well have been a loss-making activity for them.

That said, they do hold “deferred value” and I would expect only book it as income on the flight date....but still no credits provided for using points

Also IIRC some people have noted they had been comp'd before.. and it always used to be that QF supposedly would only comp once to a membership. Not saying it hasn't happened multiple times to single members, but I was always under the impression it was a one time thing (when it existed).

I've been comped twice (not counting the time where I'd been comped but hit 1,200 SCs anyway).

Received my shiny new card in the mail today... Gold is the new Black!
No!

I'm on less than 300 SCs half way through membership year. That's a lot of JQ flights to reach 1200 SCs.

I don't like the 120,000 QFF offer. Same if you've done 100 SCs or 1100 SCs which is not right.

My thinking is similar - I am on 970 SC's with a week to go and won't make 1200.
Do I burn 120000 points to retain WP or just run with LTG?
Still deciding whether it is good value or not :(
I asked for a comp, but was told it has been discontinued

The "accounting" approach:
Will you fly enough to earn the 25% difference between SG and WP to cover (most of) the 120,000 they want for the "boost"? Though you could assign a value to accessing F lounges and getting a 2nd person into QF domestic lounges....

Maybe I can afford another DONEx "someday".... It won't be this year.

But I am wandering
Fred

My year is up tomorrow (30 Nov) and unlike most of you I am very limited on how and when I can use my points. So I used the 120 000 points to retain WP for another year. I rationalised it on the basis that I'm changing jobs in 2020 and I will be flying a lot in J, mainly to WLG, SIN and SFO. So I will want the F Lounge from the get-go.

Here's a really dumb question. I'm a lifetime member but lowly bronze. Family shouting me a trip to England in April. I've not booked tickets yet but which if any airlines will allow me lounge access

Lifetime what? Lifetime Qantas Club.

If Qantas Club you need to be booked on Qantas metal, or Qantas codeshares on Emirates to get lounge access

If Lifetime Gold (albeit why would you say Bronze then), any oneworld airline or Emirates

After booking an unexpected trip next year I will be short 300 status credits.
Have decided to do a trip to Tokyo and to New Zealand.
Cheaper so to speak than using the 120,000 points
My dilemma was going to be that I was using points and therefore not getting the required status credits so purchase via points of retaining my platinum status was a good idea

Thanks Moa999. Yes lifetime club member ship but only bronze with zilch points.

Hi, if you are seeking information about lounge access you are best to start a new thread as this discussion is about comping platinum status. Other info such as starting port would be useful as lounge access may vary depending on where from for which operating airline too.

Qantas hasn't "comped" me to Platinum yet. However, noticed something in the recent "Offer to upgrade" emails from QF

So I'm doing a flight from SYD-OOL soon and I've been receiving offer to upgrade emails. The email I received on 30 Nov had "Gold" on it's top banner. However, the email I received just now had "Platinum" in it's top banner.

I'm guessing, QF IT is sensing that I'd become Platinum before my membership anniversary and have started to use "Platinum" in, perhaps, some of the communications they send out to me.
