Qantas Codeshare Partnership with Malaysia Airlines

Something weird is going on. ITA matrix shows the $1477 for your dates, fare basis is QLASA.

But viewing that fare in expert flyer it says it should cost $326 (plus tax) which probably ends up at the same price as MH. Both ITA matrix and expert flyer say it’s Q class.

I wonder if something has been loaded wrong?
Or maybe we're seeing what QF thinks SC and points are worth.

So existing classic rewards booked under qantas now become code shares?
Not sure what you mean, but classic rewards are usually booked under the operators code, regardless of codeshare arrangements (exceptions may apply, your mileage may vary, etc etc)

Haha yeh was just thinking the existing flight j booked via QANTAS next year on classic rewards would switch to a code share - wishful thinking

The QF coded flights operated by MH between Australia and KUL include a $500 "Q Surcharge" per segment in Y, or $1,500 per segment in J, for some reason.

So I refer back to the post #41 by @elanshin above… this is exactly what is happening. QF is applying a form of the ‘Australia tax’, in this case a QF tax, if you want to book their codes.

Indeed. Very "One World" of them. ,🙄

Oh, there would be die hard QF fanatics that would probably pay that just for the extra SC’s 🤣
Probably...but more fool them for letting QF get away with it. I've just checked the same dates and with MH you can fly in biz from Perth to London and back for an additional one thousand five hundred dollars. (7,500 all up). Seriously...QF need to be dumped from One World. They are the biggest rip off merchants in the air.

I'd say the more realistic scenario is just the people that don't move off the Qantas Website. I find it's almost always better to book JQ on JQ (even if you want status etc) yet there's a subset of people that will book it from the Qantas site (without additional QF connections).

Interestingly, the MH fare drops about $1500 if you fly PER-SYD (QF code)-KUL-PER for about the same as PER-SYD (return)!
