Qantas Club vs. Status Club - should a purchased membership have any status?

Purchased QP memberships should have zero status - give lounge access only.

I was checking baggage allowances for a booked trip to/from tassie last week when I did that there were details there.

Also most flights will have 1 bag ( up to 23kg) included and $15 per bag thereafter for domestic flights rather than the per dollar rate now.

Come July 1 this year and the extra baggage allowance goes too!

Oh great!

As an aside - do you guys and girls get these updates/info/flashes of brilliance by mail, email or ESP??;)

I hear absolutely nothing; thankfully I check AFF when I can, just to keep on top of what is happening.

Not Sure about 1 July, but there is a change from 1 June.

Previously, for domestic flights QP members were entitled to 32kg, with no piece limit. ie multiple bags accumulating to 32kg.

From 1 June, it is one bag only, up to 32kg. Extra bag, even if under 32kg in total for all luggage costs extra.

Hmm yeah I did say July didn't I.. opps! regardless, it is still a retrograde step for me. I usually travel with 2-3 pieces (tools, parts and clothes) That will cost me $30 per flight extra!

I expect the poll results would be affected if conducted after APS employees and advisers stop earning status in the never ending quest to reduce travel budgets.

I’m also curious to know the proportion of status credits posters accumulate whilst traveling in government/corporate/private funded flights and of a possible relationship to the responses on paid versus earnt privileges.

Sorry disagree also, I am assuming that a lot of people are flying and obtaining status due to work - and perhaps these tickets are also paid for by their employer. I have no argument with that, however some of us who dont have that perk or duty cannot acquire the amount of points required in the 4 weeks off we might have a year. So we purchase the QCLounge priveledge. I am happy to do that, I dont mind having to pay for it, but I signed up years ago with a certain set of priveledges and I find it appalling that they can be taken away.

The QLD Govt allows the accumulation of FF points and SC's on work flights. The points can only be used for Govt travel - the SC's are yours. My QC is now privately paid where previously my Dept allowed me corporate Dept membership due to my demonstrated FF requirement for State duties. Some policy prat decided that we FF'ers were gaining a benefit that non-FF's staff weren't:evil::evil:

Does anyone have a clue as to whether the powers that be regarding all these changes to QC purchased memberships ever listen to us that pay these fees?
do we ever get any points across? do they change anything after listening to their 'clients"

Yes, they listen very closely, then take away more benefits!

As long as people keep renewing, they'll keep paring back the benefits.

The recent changes were a slap in the face given that I’d just renewed my membership for 5 years. For the last 15 odd years I’ve been very loyal/willingly co-opted into the QANTAS/One World group.

Were QP just lounge access, I’d seriously consider future renewals on the basis of whether I still considered it value for my money. Without the lounge, I’d fly whatever airline took my fancy. Obviously so would my partner who tends to travel with me on non-business trips.

I suppose that would unclog a few economy seats for WP who will have earnt the right to stretch out across three seats on the arguably soon to be QANTAS no frills.

I think all the WPs who have voted agree should hope they dont get what they want. The next enhancement may be that the QP will become just a paid club with no attached frills and no complimentary access due to status as for example Admiral's Clubs. You will get a discount as a QFF elite but no more.

drron, that's'a great idea! As long as the WPs are excluded from the business lounge as well

Reductions in benefits for lifetime status is another area ripe for reform.

I had considered QP previously as I fly a bit, but mainly low cost (cheers boss) and not enough to rack up the status.
The product as offered was attractive to me for the benefits more than the lounge access. Thankfully I had read the small print on the "future of NGCI" which noted the 'enhancements'. Sorry, no sale here. If I really really need lounge access I'll fly DJ and pay for a $30 day pass. And wouldn't I like a day pass option for the QP!

As this was an advertised product sold for an agreed price I think it's a bit rich to suggest that the unhappy QPeeps are not justified in their dismay. If QF had offered an easy exit (and advertised it) for those who no longer wanted the lounge access only it would probably saved a lot of gnashed teeth and retained much goodwill.

Perhaps we need to start awarding Mr Joyce "GC" - Goodwill Credits. If he earns enough we'll spend more with his airline!

A slight O/T, but did AA's AC ever have free access for AA Elites? I know the deal now (discounted, only free when using lounges on International Itineraries), but i'd hate to think there's precedent for QF to follow AA's lead on something like this :S

Sorry, but I do tend to disagree with the OP.

Whilst I believe that FF deserve all the benefits that they accumulate, my QC membership should also have some of these benefits.

It would be my belief that the OP is most likely concerned with over crowding of priority check in etc etc, which is a fair enough argument. However, I would tend to believe that most FF I see in the QC lounges these days are actually FIFO workers. Followed by business people doing the Syd-Bne run each morning/night. The majority of one time flyers are more concerned with the cheapest online flight they can get from whichever airline, as opposed to specifically flying qantas, and then purchasing a QC membership for $400 per year for that once or twice off trip.

Thought?

This thread is a little old (over a year) and related to Qantas announcing priority check-in removal as a benefit when introducing NGCI. However, it has since been added back.

When I pruchased my QP membership, I specifically flew Qantas to get the value out of the membership, though preferred (and still do) sales.
