Qantas Club questions

I'd add to the recommendation to get a Priority Pass membership rather than a Qantas Club one given the flights you've listed and anticipated future flights. If you have a Visa card you can sign up at http://www.prioritypass.com/VISA2012 for a decent discount over the standard price.

The Qantas club corporate membership (excluding one-off join fee) works out to be $29.60 a month ($14.80 each if you're travelling with someone whom you can guest in to the lounge).

For me even if I only do 1 QF International trip for the year I feel the extra benefits it gives pays for itself just in one trip (maybe not in dollar terms but in good experience and a little bit extra time/efficiency terms).

Though mainly I travel 2-3 International trips a year, and around 10-15 domestic return trips a year.

Try $33 a month, and its a bit hard to exclude the joining fee.

Hi Ckarcher, if you have a few hours between flights at SIN a good way to pass some time for your children would be to catch the Skytrain (monorail) over to Terminal 3. There are lots of fun things for them to do and burn off some energy at the same time. Also there's a good food court over there where you can try some Singapore favourites. Saturday night can be a bit crazy there though as a lot of the locals do it for a family night out.

We're allowed to expense a membership through work. I missed out on doing it when they had a snap promotion that it came with 40000 frequent flyer points. Hoping for a promo around Christmas.

Just bringing this up a little late for more well versed members, but as the Sakura lounge is a JAL lounge, as a QP member am I correct in assuming if the flights were all QF, access to that lounge would not be granted anyway? The difference of a paid membership and status-based?

samh004.
Correct QF Club only gives access to QF and AA lounges, and now restricted access to BA lounges.
Definitely no Sakura lounge at FRA.

So the reality is the OP would be looking at around the $50 - $60 per person per visit (kids are free, but kids also miss out on the booze which is where the value comes in) assuming that they do this trip with 2 lounge accesses, and then do a Europe trip and all 4 of their flights entitle them to lounge access (the EK tie up hasn't really defined what's happening here).

I usually get around $25 worth of value per hour of lounge time. So that allows for a drink and something to eat in that time. So to really get value I need to get around 19 hours in the lounge per membership year. This is for full rate membership, which the joining fee has been long since paid.

Of course all these stats are meaningless for those without lounge access as there is always the fact that there is something so very cool about being in a lounge which we who have access almost take for granted.

I stand corrected on Frankfurt access when on a QF flight number.
I note also Qantas Club gives access to associated lounges in Johannesburg, Jakarta, Manilla, Mumbai, Noumea, Santiago (AA) when on Qantas/Jetstar flight numbers according to that page....

When did this come in as a benefit or have I just always ignored the Associated lounges.

EDIT:
Actually the OP is flying LH and seemingly not on a QF codeshare, they won't have access to Frankfurt.

It was a benefit when I joined QC about a year ago and I used the lounge in FRA in February this year. Sakura is pretty poor though. Crowded with not much to offer. Still better than the terminal though..

I was only asking for future readers, the questions had been about the lounges the OP would get access to along the way, but when it was found they were on LH the original question sort of died, so I just wanted to clarify, for anyone else reading, what benefits QP membership would get in this situation as I wasn't sure.

Also what is funny is that QF stopped flying to Mumbai in May, however they're still listing an associated lounge in Mumbai.
Only the Jetairways codeshare flight with QF flight number flies there, but in the fine print of associated lounge access it says "[SUP]^^[/SUP]Lounges are not available in ports that are only serviced by Qantas codeshare flights."

So really this is false advertising, QF are advertising lounge access in Mumbai when it doesn't exist anymore!

Have you considered pointing this out to them?

I don't recall having that access in my paid QP days (but maybe I'm wrong).

You could always get the AA 30 day pass for $100 and write it off on tax bringing it down to about $70... That would get you entry into the lounge leaving Australia (not singapore) and the lounge in Singapore returning (if within 30 days and if coming back on a QF flight which i think you said you were??)
