Hi folks,

I'm hoping someone on here may be able to help ... I'm emigrating from the UK to Australia with my partner, I'm a QFF member but have been collecting points with a BA scheme and booked two separate flights LON-HKG and HKG-MEL so not eligible for the emigrating excess baggage.

I'm thinking joining Qantas Club is a better way to spend the money to get some extra baggage as opposed to just forking out for baggage alone but have two questions...

1. I am currently in Hong Kong and flying to Melbourne in a few days - if I join online I obviously won't receive my card beforehand. Is this an issue? Can I prove membership another way for excess baggage or lounge access?

2. If I take a guest, I assume they are not entitled to excess baggage, just lounge access?

Any help greatly appreciated. My excess baggage fees as they stand will be approximately $350, so this makes the most sense.

Cheers!!

Good strategy to avoid the luggage fees.

The additional luggage allowance is only for the member.

Membership should be recorded by Qantas as soon as your payment is processed. I wouldn't delay if your flight is only a few days away.

Note the QC is cheaper to join if you are resident in a country besides Australia.

Also, a partner membership would give your partner the same baggage allowance as you.

It sees to be AUD400 for the first person and AUD245 for the partner. A good idea to join as you are o/s currently.
